Iniesta Out For Two Weeks

Wednesday, 18 February 09, 08:12 AM · Comments (15)

Andres Iniesta in action during the 2-2 draw at Betis. February 2009

Bad news today as Barça announced that Andres Iniesta will be out injured for the next two weeks. Iniesta pulled a muscle in his left thigh at the end of yesterday's training session and tests today confirmed the injury which means the player will miss Saturday's derby with Espanyol, the first leg of the Champions League last 16 tie at Lyon and the following weekend's league game at Atletico Madrid. The earliest we can hope to see him back would be for the Copa del Rey semi-final return match at Mallorca though it seems unlikely that he would be risked for this game given our two-goal advantage from the first leg. Let's just hope he is 100% ready for the second leg with Lyon on March 11.

2 weeks aint so bad. A muscle injury could have been a lot worse.

I dont mean to be pessimistic here guys but we have been quite lucky with injuries so far this season so it wouldnt surprise me if we see some more of these in the coming weeks 8O

I just hope we dont miss anyone important in any big CL games. We are going to need all of our boys fit and on form if we want to get far in the CL.

gosh!!!!!!! i really wish it was another person(not messi or eto though), he has already had enough injuries already....wish him a quick recovery

man u just won and broke the world clean sheet record, i think it would be interesting to see manu barca again since we are def the best offensive team...vidic is prob the best defender in the world in my opinion....wish we could have him, or any meanish looking-eastern-europe-mafia-like defender =D =D =D =D =D

I still think that Pep should field the strongest team at every game. Because you cant predict the future.

What if Messi and Henry (touch wood) got injured instead of Iniesta? Pep would appear stupid for not fielding them against Betis wouldnt he?

We want to break all records and win everything therefore it goes without saying that our strongest team at any given moment must be fielded. Barca is a big team, we want trophies, frankly I don't care for player development in the first team, thats why there is Barca B and the youth teams, the first team must win, not develop players.

Greenfingers,
An injury to Messi would be the worst case scenario. He is THE key to Barça's success.Henry is complementary. He can be replaced !!

it is an unlucky injury for both us and him. luckily, we have quite a deep squad and a decent replacement can be made, especially in teh midfield. i wish hleb had stepped up by now, because he could be useful there in that 3rd midfield spot. but its good this is the away game, pep may go slightly more physical anyhow and play yaya with either busquets/keita (i would use keita for his experience, busquets had an awful game in betis).

on another note, anyone been reading the yaya rumors again, just after he made some crazy declaratoins of love for barca:

"She (wife) loves Barca and together with my son of two years she loves to hear and to hum the Barça hymn. They are very happy here, and I am too. How could I want to go to another team?

You say that because of the interest shown by Arsenal, Juventus or Manchester City to sign you?

There is a concrete offer and some other proposal, but I would like to retire here. I already said in a recent interview that it would be an honor for me to hang up my boots at Barca. I would only leave out of my own will if I saw that I no longer have the energy necessary to protect my fellow team-mates from being kicked. Or when I failed the strength to cross the midfield and to get to the oponnent's goal area."

But his fucking agent is always causing shit. He is so annoying.

The Adebayor stuff must just be bored tabloids. pep cannot possibly still want him after this awful season he has had thus far. i dont believe it.

Wish Iniesta a speedy recovery. It really sux that he got injured again.

I don't want Adebayor, he is a shit striker, he misses more than he scores.

Poor Iniesta !!!! :) after a couple of mns, injuries are back . :)

I disagree with those who want other players to be injuried instead of Iniesta. We all know that he is so crucial for the club esp at this special moment but everybody should be ok too.we should not rely on one or two players. We playa s a club and not individuals.

All wot wanna said is "SPEEDY RECOVERY" FOR THE LOYAL iNIESTA.

Concerning the expected new striker in our club :

I would say that Villa is best and the one who will get familiar with the way Barça plays ASAP .

Henry, Hleb .... showed that Arsenal players who came to Barça found it hard to get their places in Camp Nou.

anyway i will say that i pray for a quick recovring of Andres Iniesta becase if you look at our two martches that Iniesta didn't play due to Injurie you will see that we didnot win any one of the, but since is back that we come back to our nomal game;so i wish him quick recovring
