Iniesta Scores Great Goal For Spain

Iniesta celebrates his masterpiece

There was a supposed leak in one of the papers this morning which gave the provisional list of the 30 finalists for this year's Ballon d'or. There was a place of course for Leo Messi, and Xavi and Puyol were two of a handful of players from the Spanish team that lifted the Eurocopa at the end of June. However, there was no place for Andres Iniesta who I'm sure most readers here believe merits a place.

Tonight in Belgium, Iniesta scored Spain's equalizer in a game Spain won 1-2 with a late goal from David Villa. Iniesta's goal is pure class; it proves what a cool head the young man has, and hopefully we will see many more like it in the future. Iniesta was taken off a few minutes from the end, while Carles Puyol and Xavi both completed the full 90 minutes.

Eidur Gudjohnsen was also in action tonight, playing 81 minutes in Iceland's 1-0 victory over Macedonia.

The South American players kick off later tonight, I'll try and fill you in with details in the morning.

Diatus - click on "Iniesta's goal" above to see the goal.

Seems only Messi played of the South Americans and Argentina lost 1-0 against Chile.

Iniesta has the individual ball skills and technique and he maybe the answer to Barça's vacant left wing . I think some improvement on scoring opportunities willl go a long way. Now, all Barça need to do is to find competent players to fill in the goalkeeper and left back spots, the two weakest positions in the team !!

Söderström - looks like I made a mistake mentioning Puyol. The full list wasn't given they just mentioned the Spanish based players who are as follows:
Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos, Marcos Senna, Cesc Fàbregas, Xavi Hernández, David Villa y Fernando Torres, Leo Messi and Kun Agüero

Fabregas and Ramos don't deserve to be on the list. While Fabregas is doing fine for Arsenal, he looks confused and lost when playing for Spain. I think Ramos is one of the most overrated players in La Liga. He seems to enjoy going forward but he lacks the technique and skill required. He can NOT dribble at all. His passing is poor. His defence is below average. He was solely responsible for Belgium's goal. Casillas was awful as well !!

Barca-rotterdam-

IMO i think Abidal is ok, there has been some games where he has been playing really good, usually after he gets dropped he plays better when he is given a chance. Valdez is ok, some of the goals this season we have conceded were not Valdez's fault. It will be hard to replace Valdez with another keeper unless they can speak spanish. LB are hard to find these days, its unlucky there isn't another sergi out there, but I think if abidal is maybe pressured a little bit more, I garantee he will play better, Its not like he doesn't know how to kick a ball, Also dont forget that the opposition now attack on their right all the time, It seems worrying but I dont think we should replace those two.

aekelona :
There has been so much said and written about Valdes and Abidal mostly negative, imo. However, I would suggest to "nic" to run an opinion poll regarding these two players or other Barça players who attract differing points of views. I would be the first to vote "thumb down" on Valdes and Abidal. Just because Barça is "stuck" with a player, it does not prevent the club from finding a replacement !!
