It's Official: Giovani Signs For Tottenham

Friday 6th June by fcbnews_nic · 28 Comments

Barça have announced this lunchtime that as expected Giovani dos Santos has signed for Tottenham Hotspur for the next five seasons. A fee of €6 million has been agreed with a possible furthur €5 million to be paid in accordance with the number of games the Mexican plays.

It seems Spurs have got a bargain here. I've said before that Giovani is worth a fair bit more than the price paid. However, it also seems that Giovani and his agent have constantly been asking Barça for too much, and Barça are right to let players go if they don't want to stay. Giovani was also supposed to be upset by the boos directed at him at Camp Nou at times this season, and I have to say our own fans are often our own worst enemies. This season it seems that we may also lose Samuel Eto'o thanks to these so-called supporters. I really wish this type of fan would stay at home and boo his TV instead.

Giovani played a total of 38 times last season for Barça and scored 4 goals.

€6 million!?
thats a bargain
i believe we should have recieved at least €15 million plus incentives depending on performance
the kid had alot of potential, too bad he didnt perform as well as he could have
i believe he could have turned out to be one of our main players next year
all season it looked like he just needed a goal, and when he did score it was the last match of the season for Barca.
But then again if he was being cocky and stuck-up, always asking for more money and had a large ego like he did i believe Laporta was right to get rid of him.
Still its a shame only €6 million.
Now I'd Like to see Eto'o, Deco and Ronaldinho.
I believe they need to move on.
Replacements? Hleb, Silva and Trezeguet it seems most likely
And thats only if Silva and Trez decide to move

I also think that the price is too low....but If he does not want to play for barca anymore....we do not need him....we have a lot of better players than he is...

I hope thay will sign Alves because we need him....and Eto’o must stay....

As for the Spurs....with Ramos in charge, new signings Modric,Dos Santos,...and Berbatov allready there.....they have a great team now....

Damn, Tottenham just struck a bargain, he should have been sold for at least 11 million.

But he was too arrogant and should have at least stayed another season to prove that he is a great player... But he left so, hopefully he will miss Barca and wish that he never left, and we won't buy him back...

being a spurs fan, I cannot believe we've managed to get him at a price like that. However, if the resounding feeling at Barca is 'underwhelmed' then i guess its a deal that works for everyone. If he plays well, the fee rises.... and you get compensation there for being wrong about his potential.....

I, as a season ticket holder, cant wait to watch the boy week-in week-out, as i think he's got alot to offer in the premierships pacey environment (from the limited amount i've seen of him).

Now can we have Bojan? ;)

Giovani your an idiot and so is the club for letting you go. Who leaves Barca to join the Spurs in such a small age. No offense to you Spurs fans. But to me he should have joined Arsenal ! Home of all the young Players at least to learn and to thought under Arsenal Wenger. Giovani your an idiot

It is 6 million upfront plus 5 million in incentives as well as 20% of the fee paid for any transfer within two years and 10% of the fee for a transfer paid after that. A disappointing amount up front for sure, but the total fee seems to be closer to 13 million if Dos Santos develops and ultimately moves to a larger club. The structure of the deal and the fact that Barca did not include a buy back clause indicate to me that the club no longer wants to deal with the player or his advisors.

Honestly guys we are better off without him! For such a young player to have such a selfish arrogant attitude is not a good sign at all! We want less players like him and more players like Messi/Bojan/Iniesta. My only problem is the amount we sold him for, which is too little. Although i am sure other clubs picked up on his attitude which is probably why he ended up at tottenham and not chelsea! Good riddance i say.....now bring on Alves!!

Its a shame to see him go. He has so much potential. He is young and probably getting swindled by a stupid agent. Suck for him though -- spurs are $#^% I am however glad he did not go to chelsea who are bigger %^&#

well , as everyone here i am shocked and confused why would barca sell him for such a price , i understand that the deal is 11 million in total ( 6 million plus 5 million for games and trophy ) but really we could have done better , i mean we spent millions on him to make him in the way he is now ( although i am not a fan of him ) . the player is good in a way and bad in another , maybe if he was managed mentally by a good coach he can produce more and better .. actually i am a big big fan of barca but i do adore tottenham and i wish for him the best

well it's hard to keep youngsters with great potential these days cos other clubs tempt them with better pay and better chances. i guess from a players point of view, dos santos wants more chances to play and lets face it, it's tough competition at a big club like barcelona. so it's unfair for us to blame the club for 'losing' these players. they can't offer the player all the money in the world and guarantee first team play. that's just unrealistic.

it's a sad fact clubs like barca will have to accept.

but - the club should have done better than 6 million pnds, for sure.

I hate arsenal and the only team I prefer in the english league is tottenham. Thus I am not bitter if Dos Santos leaves to the hotspurs.

Perhaps him and Modric can actually break the top 4 if not challenge for the title.

AS I have said on many occasions, he is in an idiot and he just demostrated that by signing for TopFourTottenham™ :)

Any player in the world who turns down the chance of a career in Barca at 19 because he wants more money is an idiot.

He might succeed but I highly doubt it. Anyway this is all raising cash for Alves.

Forca Barca!!

I wouldn't really say Gio is an idiot but it's unfortunate that he left he is young and he definitely could have proven himself and earned more playing time @ Barca.....I think it was more his father who pushed for the move.....anywayz he's gone now no use crying over spilt milk.....i think he will do well @ tottenham.....the premier league isn't really that good in my opinion. He will shine under Ramos

I think its not in the interest of FCBarcelona to hold players which obviously dont want to play anymore for Barcelona. Giovani has proven to be very arrogant and impatient. He just gave up. He should have stayed to prove that he do is a good player. Too late...
So under these circumstances, letting him go was in my opinion a good decision.
Giovani: Good luck!

It's a little unfortunate that he left at such an age. 19 is too young. He deserves a little time to completely demonstrate his ability. I felt he was still growing. I see no reasons for his sale because it's not like Spurs have paid a huge fee or something.

Weird.

This is embarrasing! We're willing to break the bank for a defender and then turn around and sell a product of la masia (very promising product)for a measly €6million?!?! I wish gio luck bcuz I really wanted him to stay, I dnt buy all this crap that he was arrogant and stuck-up, he may be misguided but the talent is there, its a shame he was booed by his own fans at the young age of 19

Wish good Luck..... HELL NO ! I wish he gets injured on the first day. Wish a back stabber good luck. Make him a star so he can leave. As for the money issue that is for the Barca head to decide as far as I'm concern long as he have money to buy stars they can sell Gio for as low as 1 Pound for all i care at least then he would known to be worthless kid that he really is. Again I say Giovani your a backstabbing idiot.
