According to an exclusive in El Sport Barça's president Joan Laporta will present his resignation at Thursday's board meeting. After being punished in Sunday's vote of no confidence a group of directors are believed to be prepared to resign en bloc if Laporta doesn't go. According to the story, vicepresident Albert Vicens will take over as president when Laporta resigns and Ferran Soriano will be his number two. Click here for the El Sport story (in Spanish).
Varughese - I don't believe that is so. I understand it is an attempt for the current board to continue (no elections) just without Laporta (similarly to how Tony Blair stepped down as British prime minister to make way for Gordon Brown). Presumably the club would continue to run normally.
i'm sorry joe henry but i cant agree with you on that one....i think it is maybe the other way round, if franks players had stood up for him and shown him some respect (and some self respect for that matter!) then maybe we wouldnt be in this mess but as it is the 'barca galacticos' came along, cashed there pay cheques and fained injury/illness, etc and gave very very little for the club or there manager in the last 18 months / 2 years thus deco, eto'o and yes ronnie have got to go now...we can't just blame frank, he's a fine manager and by all accounts a fine dignified man and i hate to say it but i dont think a few of the names mentioned before are quite up to the same standard!
rijkaard was the sacrificial lamb, and of course he should have went last summer, but he is certainly not the be all and end all of why barca slumped...out with the old in with the new, as with coaches as with players and it seems as with presidents and board members!!!???
whoever thought of selling Eto'o should go! and whoever thought of buying Adebayor should go aswell! and whoever thought of offering more than €5m for adebayor should go aswell!
during Laportas reign, he had been spot on in most things.. apart from the decision to have Unicef logo on out shirts which i think has bought us bad luck! we have won F**k all since it was printed on our shirts! our uniqueness has gone. but still, i think he should stay on. he has bought stability.
i live near the Camp Nou and am a gold member. but i think this year will tear it up!! come on Barca fans, show all ur love and stop criticising!! TOTS UNITS FEM FORCA!
i still think Rijkaard would have delivered this season... but we shall see how Pep does. blaugana 4 life!
If he quit ... and Vicens will step up to become president.
How about Ronaldinho and Eto ?????
i quite agree with you Javier Roque Rubio you have seen it from my view too
lets this guys go and Laporta remain to build another team
thanks
No, im not, and just as Nic said, this is only a trick, the same board will be managing the club, so that = Laporta behind running FCB.
Seriously, this guy must think people are retarded or something, ANYONE with a 80+ IQ would know this means the club will be running the same strats and politics they used under Joan, which is what brought the club to its current situation, so, wheres the change?... UNBELIVABLE
Laporta has come out now to say he's not quitting, but we'll just have to see what happens on Thursday.
politics for you i suppose! if that's the game laporta's playing then it could get messi for him...let's hope the whole affair doesn't undo the new groundwork barca are building on for the new season...
If Laporta stays it's not gonna be good. If Laporta leaves it's not gonna be good. Either way it is gonna be to much fuss and it will impact on teams performance. So it looks like another trophy-less season, and I mean on all parts of club, not only football (soccer). This vote of no confidence was totally bad timing. This should have happened at the end of season. Max two weeks after, so that team and club leadership could enter in new season with all problems solved.
Lets get the story stright according to the clubs statutes 50% of the board and Laporta must resign for their to be new elections, or the other senorio is that 75% of the board resign with or with out Laporta's resigning then he will be automaticly forced to step down from his position. We have 18 board members including Laporta who has today offically stated he does not wish to resign so the board members who are currently holding meetings behind Laporta's back which is disgraceful! I heard these meetings could be extended to Thursday apparently so God only knows what's going to happen.
If this is to happen new elections must be in order!
i think we will win the league this season....i dont think if elections happen, it will distract the players cuz its not really any of their business....their job is on the field only...if the players want to win, they will...its not like if the elections r going on, messi is gonna be thinking about them during the game and he wont be able to dribble past defenders....if all the barca players do what they r good at than they have a chance....elections or any of that other laporta/rossell drama wont do anything
john henry that was the dumbest comment ive ever seen. i dont even have to say more
morning to you all igot up this morning to find out that my Man is not going anymore, Laporta has to stay to take us back to the promise land, if Messi plays 80% of our matches this season we would have won all there is to win and who ever replace ronnie i believe will want to have a good face to ll barca fan but i stll feel eto should stay
Barca for life
joe henry that statement about frank was one of the most mindless things ive ever seen. thats all
Good Morning, you may notice a few changes today. you'll hear more about it soon, i'm just having a few technical problems at the moment, should all be sorted later today.
I heard we have reach an agreement to sign Hleb anyone heard about this??? if it's true well Barca have signed a shitbag!!!
I don't think he'll quit.
Still, i see us getting titles the coming season.

hopefully this thing wont happen..i think we should persue Silva not Hleb
Well Look at this way. Mangers do this :- A. Keep the team in good shape. B. Train the team well. C. Win Cups/Championships. D. Control the team so that no things he is the star........ Among other things like good Substations during the games. Frank did nothing 100% NOTHING. So don't tell me that he is Innocent here. IF we had won the Champions league we wouldn't have all this crap. Maybe you don't agree with me but if we had one everything. Do you think that Laporta would be accused of "No Confidence" I think not. Maybe the team was crap as well but this is still his fault as a manger. If we had won everything we wouldn't really care who goes where and who comes. It should have been the year that we will tell our kids, with a team 100% made of stars Madrid didn't have a chance. Now look at where we ended up, Third place, Eto'o & Ronnie wants to go. We Lost Deco & Zambrotta. Yes we did sign what seems to be good players but look at our last year team. If my talk is Mindless tell me then what mind did see that we would end up with nothing adding that we are in 3rd place by fare. As I said it's my point of view it might be wrong from a very close perspective to the team and the club but its not mindless.
Good work signing Helb.
Yeah right.
Helb in his prime would never match Ronaldinho injured.

what can i say...im surprised!! if this is true and it happens well, i'm disapointed. i'm sure other folks will be happy and yes the club comes first but still...i think we need a period of stability and it does not appear that we will be getting it anytime soon! what a shame! good luck to pep and the boys but really sometimes its just too much. i was excited for the new season now i am just slightly downheartened and see no silverware on the horizon! so let's wait and see i guess but still for me this is not good news!
well i ve always being a Laorta fan, and will always be. he is still the best President ever and i share all is view to take us to the promise land. all i can say right now is if you really love Barca dont leave at this critical time, i know with God on our side we are going back to the promise land again this season
long Live Barca
