Rafa Marquez will be out for eight to ten weeks with the injury to his left knee sustained in yesterday's Champions League game with Chelsea. We all knew it was a nasty injury as soon as the player went down, today the club have confirmed that Marquez has ruptured the internal and external meniscus. For those of you who know nothing of anatomy that is basically translated as a fucked knee, but at least there was no ligament damage which would be translated as a severely fucked knee (like Gabi Milito's).
Marquez will be operated on by club doctors Ramon Cugat and Ricard Pruna this Saturday. It is an awful time for a player to get injured with all the big games coming up. The positive side is he will only miss a month of football and he should be fit in time for the new season.

This comes at a bad time, he has been playing well recently - now his season is over.
in the return leg their are going to be defensive headaches for Guardiola but who ever plays, I hope they get they job done and do well.
Get well soon Marquez.
Whats happening to Gaby? I thought I read on this blog that he was back fit.. When will he start playing??? Marquez is a big loss for us and we hope to beat the blues again...
I understand that Milito is having a few set backs in the final stage of his recovery. Knee ligament injuries like the one he suffered are extremely complicated and can often mean the end of a playing career. I don't think we will see Milito this season, hopefully he will be back ready at 100% for 2009/2010.
Nic, the external and internal meniscus are ligaments I believe. They hold the knee joint from the sides, the inside and outside. Injuring those ligaments is pretty severe, but usually treatable. The ACL's are a pair of criss-crossed ligaments that literally hold the femur to the tibia. Tear these and your knee really is fucked up, since it's no longer tightly held together as a joint. I only know this stuff because I've suffered an ACL tear over a decade ago.
Cheers Pequito, about a year ago I got a doctor friend of mine to explain the knee to me, precisely so I could understand these injuries for writing on the blog, but know I've forgotten it all. Just hope both players get back to full fitness as soon as possible.
Next Week against Chelsea :
D.Alves, Toure Yaya, Pique, Abidal
Xavi, Keita, Iniesta
Messi, Eto'o, Henry
I am confident Toure can easily handle Drogba. Keita can win any battles with Essien and Ballack.
Marquez get well soon. Wish we have Milito.
Time to finish Real Madrid on Saturday.
interesting back line.
i had initially thought about
alves, pique, abidal, sylvinho
wasn't sure if caceres was ready for this high pressure match either.
pique held his ground against drogba last match which was nice to see.
marquez injury sux. reminds me of when eto'o fell to the ground after forcing that pass across the midfield.
