The presentations continue at Can Barça. Today was the turn of central defender Gerard Pique who has signed for four seasons. Pique who played alongside Leo Messi and Cesc Fabregas in Barça's junior teams returns home after four years at Manchester United. Barça paid United €5 million to get Pique back and he will now have a buy-out clause of €50 million. With Gabi Milito out injured the 21-year-old could go straight into the first team. He has experience of La Liga after playing the 2006/7 season on loan at Zaragoza.
In other news today Barça are supposedly closing in on Andrei Arshavin but will still have to persuade Arshavin's current club Zenit to accept their offer which is believed to be around €15 million. Meanwhile Chelsea are reportedly about to make an offer for Samuel Eto'o of €22 million + Florent Malouda. I have to admit Malouda hasn't convinced me in what I have seen of him at Chelsea last season or in Euro 2008 for France. Perhaps the best news is that Arsenal have supposedly turned down an offer of €30 million for Emmanuel Adebayor. I hope Barça will now switch their attention to Tottenham's Dimitar Berbatov. However, it looks as though signing a star centre forward is going to be the most complicated business in this summer's transfer activity.
Abedayor is poor and not worth 30m! also the board has no brains. why would anyone want to sell Samu? he is the complete striker. we need him, because when he is on fire, then no one can stop him. but if he goes then i think barca will regret it. dimitar is not that quick as him. no one can replace him at this point in time. Ronaldinho i would keep if he really wants to stay.
come on Barca, sort it out!!!
I would hate to see Eto go, but I have to admit that 22 mil and Molouda is not a bad deal for Barca. If Molouda can capture his form once again he would be a great addition to the team. Yet I must admit it will be difficult to say goodbye to Eto. He is Barca through and through! In spanish we use the term "se muere por la camisa".
Villa is a great striker but I always felt he is more suited to a counter attacking side. In some ways i think he is like Henry and he needs space to run into. Having said that I would not complain if we signed him.
As for Marquez I would love to see him back to form. He played well for a while last season and then seemed to lose it again, I don't know how much his trips to Madrid to see his girlfriend affected him. It will be interesting to see who Guardiola picks to partner Puyol. I'd like to see how Caceres does at left back which would leave it between Pique and Marquez until Milito gets fit. Can't wait for the preseason to see what plans Guardiola has for the new boys.
I have followed Rafa's career since he played at Atlas and it is quite clear to me that he has lost something in the last couple of years. Rafa used to be a very dependable CB, but now he commits the most childish mistakes. He still possess that really nice touch for a CB, but he is not so much a guarantee in defence. I liked him when he was played as a defensive midfielder best, that being said he lacks fitness to play that role now. Hopefully he will regain his lost fitness and his desire to be a world class player. I have not seen much of Pique, but if Rafa regains his form Pique will find it very difficult to gain a starting position.
Why did they get Pique back, i recall Laporta saying they would never buy a player that was in Barca and left to some other team.... again, we get 2 c how this board works, they say a but do b, cant wait to c them out! Rosell would be the best "signing" for next season!
Exactly, Barca have one of the worlds best strikers, in his prime right under their noses. They just need to sort out his problems and co-operate with eachother.
As for that Russian target, I do not see the good of him in Barcelona. So he had a good run at Euro isn't he like 28? Keep Eto'o, keep Ronaldinho. End the transfers now.
Its time for Barcelona to build up team moral, chemistry etc.
hombres.... Messi will be wearing no.10 this season. R10 is off to Milan.
adeu.
I think Adebayor is coming to Barca which I think like many others is bad.
I don't understand why you guys believe in Piqué so much???
oh dios mi...
arsenal have accepted £30m, not €30m! i just want to know whos idea it was to even think of Adebayor replacing Eto'o and just exactly who said Eto'o is free to leave? i wouldnt even pay £5m for Adebayor, let alone £30m!!! laporta is losing the plot. Dani Alves, Pique, Keita, Caceres? all good. Adebayor? uuuffff! if he does arrive, then give Bojan No.9 shirt. Adebayor is not good for enough it....
where is the logic behind the thinking? can u tell me just who is a like 4 like replacement 4 Samuel Eto'o???? exactly....NO ONE!
adebayor's a big target man so there must be a quality txiki has seen that will probably suit the system barca will use next season - wenger must have seen something in him that made him bring him to arsenal! as for eto'o - what team doesn't have their hands full with big-ego'd players who think the team revolves around them? look at man utd's ronaldo! i'm glad barca have brought in what looks like a solid defence pack because we all know they have attacking talent in abundance - i've seen pique the odd time for man utd and on loan in spain and for me there are similarities to ferdinand - maybe i'm wrong but i think he could do well alongside puyol?
I agree with Barcaman - Obviously Pep is not going with the useless winger-based 4-3-3 of late.
With Ronaldinho in his prime and Eto'o reading his mind with Messi/Guily pace Barca were unstoppable. However, with R10 faded, Eto injured and Messi getting 3-man marking him the system has flopped. Why hae players like Henry and not use them to their strengths? Look at Xavi, no more than average/good for Barca last year as he was played far far too deep and not given enough freedom. With Spain, he had free reign of the central midfeild with Senna protecting him and he became the old Xavi who plays through balls and gets up to attack.
With Adebayor signing (maybe?), I think he will only sign if Eto goes which is a big mistake in itself as I beleive Eto and Henry showed good chemistry when they actually played (about ten games lol). If Adebayor does sign, then it will be Adebaoyor leading the line with a narrower attack with Messi and Henry playing either side of Adebayor and acting as second-strikers as both have good assist capabilities. Obviously we will get our width from Abidal and Alves and have Toure covering the defence with Xavi, Iniesta and Keita fighting for the two remaining places in midfeild.
I think Barca will rock next season and I think they will cause havoc in the Champions League (in a good way) :)
We NEED to start a petition against Adebayor, just like the Juve fans did against stankovic and actually stopped the signing. Either keep Eto'o, who has barca in his blood, or get benzema or berbatov, anybody but adebayor, who isnt even half the player Kanu was, the player hes compared to. Lets get this petition moving! By the way, i am seeing Dinho tommorow in houston for the free kick masters contest, i will try to take pics to post to analyze his weight.
I agrre wiv Rivaldo no 1 wants needs Adebayor at Barca!!! Keep Dinho and Eto’o!!! Guardiola wants a winger sign David Silva why Hleb??? Also sign Moutinho or Van der Vaart to replace Deco!!!
rivaldo - any good clubs in houston you could point ronnie in the direction of?!
My buddy actually partied with Torres 2night in houston, im going out after the contest with him so hopefully he showed Torres a good time and he will come out again
maybe guardiola will use a 4-2-3-1. It was quite popular in the euro.

i still don't understand them selling eto'o....i think they will regret selling him if a deal does go through
why dont we relax and just get arshavin to fill in for ronaldinho?
Keep eto'o. He is volatile but very useful on the pitch. Why go through all the trouble of finding a centre-forward when none of our targets happen to be as good as him?
We patched up holes in the defence (pique for milito, cecares for thuram, alves for zambrotta) and midfield (iniesta for deco, keita for edmilson). All we need is a right footed player who is comfortable playing on the left side.
Arshavin will be a good buy. He is not immensly expensive and considering the talent from that purchase, Id have to say 15 mil is pretty good. Wasnt yaya toure aquired for around the same amount?
