Player Of The Month: September 2008

Sunday, 28 September 08, 01:39 PM · Comments (16)

Xavi Hernandez: Player of the month Sept 2008

I didn't do this for August as there were only three games, so the September award is actually for August and September. Anyway, the award is back and I'll be doing this for the whole season. The first winner of the season is our midfield maesto Xavi Hernandez who continues to be in splendid form after his excellent European Championship. I'm sure the Fcbnews award will mean more to him than Uefa's player of Euro 2008!

As I did last season, I will name a top 5 for each month. Please write in to tell me how wrong I am. This month the top 5 is as follows:

  1. Xavi Hernandez
  2. Andres Iniesta
  3. Leo Messi
  4. Sergio Busquets
  5. Samuel Eto'o

This months award should go to Sammy Eto'o. His 100th goal for the club & he was the only player who looked really excited that Eidur Gudjohnsen scored to win last match.

Hmm.. how wrong are you, Nic? ;) I would say you're almost spot on. But only almost because of Busquets. Yes, he's done a nice job, but in my point of view he is only getting so much recognition because nobody expected anything from him..
I think Eto'o (and maybe also Piqué) has done a better job than Sergi.

Can't wait for october!

i agree with kug and layibiyi , etoo should be 4th and Busquets 5th , but i am not very sure about the first three , i think all of them were great , xavi with his magnificent performance and help and scoring as well . ineasta did a great great job in covering the left side and messi brought the creativity back to the team just like what roonie was doing for the team 2 yrs ago so i let the ppl decide who should be 1st,2nd and 3rd

i kinda agree with frede. If Pique gets more starts alongside puyol we will definitely see him in the top 5 atleast once in the season.

I'm glad to see the comments in favour of Piqué. I actually had him down as 6th, or in other words we could say he was "September defender of the month".

Would have liked to see Pique in the top 5 as he has really done a superb job for us so far. Eto'o should be 4th for his goals that he has scored and excellent attitude. Busquets is really impressing me alot, and its really good to see we are producing top notch talent, even when some of our talent leaves to go play for other clubs.

No, I disagree on this one my friend...!!!
Samuel Eto'o should be our man this month with Xavi a close second. We are an attacking team and that inherently tilts ball handling, play initiation and overall visibility to Xavi but our clutch player this month was Samuel Eto'o. He really was our difference maker this month...think about it!

yeee pique. This kid is actually very talented. Has undeniable physical prowess too. Plus he was effectively able to shut down messi two years ago when he played for zaragoza. I mean think about it, if you can make it difficult for messi to run circles around you, you definitely have some talent.

I agree with having Xavi at the top not because he is the best player on the team but because he actually runs the offense. Messi comes second for his bursts and magic touches !!
