Preview: Recreativo - Barça

Leo Messi against Recreativo last season

Pep Guardiola has made no surprises to the list of 18 players for tomorrow night's game in Huelva against Recreativo (kick off 9pm local time). Pedro, Victor Sanchez and Jorquera have been left out while Iniesta, Abidal and Gabi Milito are still all recovering from their injuries. Barça are looking to extend the lead at the top of the table with the 9th successive league win.

Recreativo are struggling at the other end of the table in 17th place with only seven points.  They have only one league victory this season which was back on the first day of the season in August when they won 0-1 at Betis. However, possibly their best player, midfielder Javier Camuñas, is back in contention after recovering from injury though he may only start on the bench. Barça have played four league games in Huelva with two victories and two draws, last season's corresponding game ended in a 2-2 draw with two goals from Samuel Eto'o and two from Recre's Marco Ruben who should start up front tomorrow alongside Javi Guerrero in attack.

Pep Guardiola reportedly fined his players for turning up a few minutes late for training on Friday, it is obviously his intention to keep the level of tension high in the team. This is the sort of game that we struggled with over the last two seasons, and we should remember that our only league defeat this season was at Numancia who sit one place below Recreativo in the table. We are beginning to see more of a pattern in team selection and I expect Thierry Henry to start on the left of attack to accompany Messi and Eto'o, either Gudjohnsen or Busquets in midfield with Xavi and Toure, while Puyol may start again at left back with Gerard Pique partnering Marquez in the middle.

Real Madrid have just lost 1-0 in Valladolid so this is an excellent chance to go five points clear of our biggest rival

Barça's 18-man squad for the game: Valdés, Pinto, Alves, Marquez, Piqué, Caceres, Puyol, Sylvinho, Xavi, Toure, Busquets, Gudjohnsen, Keita, Hleb, Messi, Eto'o, Bojan, Henry.

Possible starting XI: Valdés; Alves, Marquez, Piqué, Puyol; Xavi, Toure, Gudjohnsen; Messi, Eto'o, Henry.

My prediction: Recreativo 0 Barça 2

I dont' feel that confident abt this game cuz Recreativo tend to put 9 men in the back, and we have always struggled with those kinda teams....so, i m expecting it to be 1-1...but like I always say, I hope Barca thrash them and extend the lead over madrid and valencia to 5 points...

=D I hope this team gives Barca a good fight,,, Barca needs the competition so when they meet strong teams in Europe they are not taken by storm... Because this season Real Madrid sucks... So Barca has no competition in La Liga

Our rivals have stumbled, perfect time to be 5 points ahead.

2-0 to Barca,

@ Barcel,

I wouldn't be so quick to say that La Liga is incredibly week compared to other European leagues. Atletico Madrid and Villareal have both faired quite quite well in their Champions League games thus far (against the likes of Man. U and Liverpool, no less). Valencia cannot be counted out. Real may not be on form, but I would argue that is partly due to the strength of La Liga. Any team can beat any other team on any given day. To put together a long string of wins (like 8) is incredibly difficult and testament to how well Barça is playing. At the moment, I would suggest that other teams have more to fear from Barça than vice versa. We must stay focused and try to sustain the level of play we've been exhibiting lately and we will be alright.

villareal tied against malaga 2-2

With the rest of the top four faltering this week, its the perfect opportunity for Barcelona to further extend their lead before we face murderer's row in december

OMG..Villareal just tied against Malaga...all of our rivals dropped points this week...It's like the best time to extend our lead...Let's hope we don't follow the same way...LIke last season, I hope we don't fail to take advantage of other teams setbacks.....C'mon Barcaaaaaa.....Let's have a 3 point lead over Villareal and 5 points over Madrid and Valencia....

I predict a reverse 1-0 loss :?

I hope I am wrong but this is the first time Barca have the pressure on them to take the advantage and I think they might not be able to cope.

Well done to Malage for drawing though and lets hope Im wrong and Barca win! ;)

Since Recreativo like to defend with 8-9 men, it would be nice to see some outside shooting from Yaya, Xavi and Etoó . This could be a tight one !!

lol Barca-Rotterdam I know what you mean, that stream annoyed me soo much watching it!!

I am sooooo pleased I am wrong! =D Barca made it harder then they needed to but 0-2 was perfect for them. Hopefully no injuries to Pique and Puyol otherwise a great weekend for the boys!!

Whoever said Eto is the best finished in the world needs their head examined lol as he missed loads but in the end it didnt mean anything as super Messi came to Barca's rescue again. He so badly wants to win La Liga being the star of the show I think he will stop at nothing to win it.

All in all the defence played okay but again they still cannot defend corners as Recrea nearly scored (hit the bar) from a corner which would have altered the game so there is still pently of work to do there imo.

Mideild was solid. They kept it solid, playing it simple and apart from one stray Xavi pass, the trio of Busquets, Xavi and Toure were very balanced and that is what we need in away games. I hope Toure's injury is not bad as he looks like he is enjoying playing for Barca and no way should Pep sell him.

Attack was a bit off-key but still worked. Eto worked hard and interchanged well with Messi especially and could have had a hat trick today if he his finishing had been better but he was bound to have an off day and the team cannot be like the old Barca and just rely on one man for goals. Messi did excellent considering he had THREE people man marking him. He did some amazing dribbles and again as I have pointed out this season, he is passing mroe and creating much more chances which is what will make him the best player in the world. Henry is an enigma. First half was dreadful; schoolboy finishing, didnt look interested and frankly deserved a bollocking at half time which I think he got. Second half he improved working harder, linking better, hitting the post with a wicked shot and played a key part in the second Barca goal. God knows what goes on in his head lol.

Barca are top!! Enjoy!
