In 2003 when Joan Laporta was voted in as Barça president his closest collaborators were Ferran Soriano who was financial vicepresident, Marc Ingla who was marketing vicepresident and Sandro Rossell who was sports vicepresident and regarded by many to be Laporta's right-hand man. Rossell was given a lot of credit for being behind the signings of Ronaldinho and Deco, which were helped by Rossell's connections in Brazil, he was also credited with the signings of Marquez and Edmilson. The relationship between Laporta and Rossell seemed to be a firm friendship but halfway through the first season Rossell fell out with Laporta, so what went wrong between them?
According to Rossell he fell out with Laporta due to a lack of democracy and transparency at the club. However, it seems the real reason had a lot more to Rossell's desire to be in complete control of signing as he wanted to bring in other Brazilians such as Gilberto Silva and Edu that Frank Rijkaard and Txiki Begiristain didn't want. Laporta backed Rijkaard and Txiki and it seems as if Rossell didn't like it. In the excellent programme Barça the inside story (you need to watch it in ten minute blocks) you can see Laporta and other members of the board calling for unity while Rossell's reaction is to get into a sulk. It would appear that Rossell thinks he knows better than the professionals and if he becomes Barça president I imagine it would be him deciding on the signings. Recent reports have suggested that Rossell would get rid of Begiristain as Sporting Director and he would also distance the club from Johan Cruyff. To be fair Rossell comes across as an intelligent bloke who knows his football, but do we really think he knows more than the likes of Rijkaard, Cruyff and Begiristain? Ok, he may have brought in Ronnie, Deco, Marquez and Edmilson, but what have these four done in the last two seasons?
Today Rossell has announced he will stand in the next elections and will vote against Laporta on July 6th. His criticisms sound equally vacuous today, accusing the board of poor management over the last two years. I'm afraid my opinion of Rossell has gone down a lot with all of this, he now appears to be just another opportunist waiting for his moment in the limelight.
Vote 'No' to the vote of no confidence!
Take it easy FCB...Ronaldinho under preforming in one season that is, if it hadn't been for his "Ezquerro form" where he scored 17 goals with eto'o injured i think we wouldve been in uefa cup last year if we were lucky and Eto'o 15 goals in 18 games, u must our of ur mind to think that he was under preforming ....
the fact is instead of blaming it all on the trio ! the whole team was crap from top to bottom excluding messi toure and iniesta...but this sort of attitude that a player has a drop in form sell him with no patience...and letting them all go through the back door is the bad difference between us and the other clubs out there..like ac inter juve and manunited...u got some1 like saha injured ever since i knew he played football do you see his fns booing him three years now and if u wanted to compare his goals stats to that of eto'o u will know wuts the meaning of underpreforming...
He obviously knows more than Txiki when it comes to signings.
Those 4 not performing aint Rosells fault, just as he had nothing to do with them performing great when Barcelona won 2 leagues and a CL, as he said in his speech, things went out of control in Barca, everyone did whatever they wanted, and the ones who backed all this were Rijkaard, Txiki and Laporta ("la autogestion del vestuario").
To me theres no coincidence, Barcelona started going down the minute Rosell and other 4 members quit.
Also, by the time they filmed that tv show u mention, the relationship between Sandro and Laporta was crap, mainly cuz Laporta started acting like if he was above good and evil, right and wrong, etc.
Rosell 4 president all the way!
PS U call him an oportunist, yet, he waited till now to make a public appearance and run for presidency, he never criticized the team, despite them not winning a trophy in 2 years, he never went like "thanks to my signings Barca won 2 leagues and a CL", so... imho, i think u really dont like him and u got a biased opinion@ Nic
If the vote succeeds all signings will be stoped which I don't support and also Rossell might not be completely right but i can assure You guys that Laporta is not also the right,He has also done things that no Barca supporter will hear and be proud of, I'm having a kind of feeling that the star players prefers Rossell following some reports lately. So,I hope Barca fans can find a complete personalty to fill in as the president this time around someone that is known (character wise) thoroughly by the club members. Thanks
Yeah, I guess by the looks of it, Rossel might just nick it. I do see him becoming the president of Barcelona, I mean hey, he sounds very intelligent. I mean, being honest, when I saw that video which was posted by someone else in some other post (the bbc barcelona laporta success video), I always felt that Rossell was the more influential one than laporta. Laporta is good, but I felt Rossell had something in him, which was good yet better than what Laporta had. What these guys said earlier, in the previous posts, is completely true. His signings were excellent, I mean, almost all of Begiristain's signigs were below crap. I mean, Abidal and Thuram (36 years old!!!) was shocking! I feel Rossell would do a great job if he became president. Hey, what ever is worse, new pres comes in or Laporta continues, its atleast better than us Madrid fans having a clown like Calderon as president who gets a obsession on a new player every summer... :)
Well yeah actually, I actually find him a decent president. I mean, he is not the best, I think Madrid staff need press conference classes, they are so bad at it. Other than that he is a decent president. I mean, I wish he would be a little quiet about the entire player chases he indulges in.
Hope the CL will come back to Madrid, its been quiet long......
Yeah, neways, hope for the best guys, either Laporta or Rossel, lets hope for the best for Barca....
realistically rossell will not be back at the club and the vote of no confidence will be quashed - that's how i see it...with pep coming in he's the right guy for the club in terms of just concentrating on coaching and guiding the team and allow begiristain to bring in the right players and in next few years we'll see barca rise up again...don't see why some need to upset the applecart at this stage when we know what sort of influence laporta is...

i dont support either laporta or rossel but i stand firmly with rossells demand to keep our trio, because they are irreplaceable, because they given us so much for them to actually get booed at some point is absurd from that section of fans, for the club to say they wont go out of the back door...
where they dont seem to even get a good bye by the fans is unappreciative and shows some of the maybe errors rossell is undermining ...
and i surely would put Rossel ahead of that lost in translation Tixiki who if im correct all of his signings have been terrible... the likes of Gudhenson the aging Thuram, Zambrotta Abidal, let me say no more..
now the problem isn't in our trio, the problem was Frank Rijkard my little brother would tell u that frank has smoked his cells out after wining the champions league and afterwards became too predictable and couldn't come up with a new tactic to save his job, put all that aside and his over friendly treatment to the players which cost him their athleticism & professionalism ...
whether or not rossel is right or not...i would vote yes, because at this particular moment we seem to have all areas in good health and the change of coach happened and the trio can still give it another shot with a more strict Coach in Pep Guardiola
i am getting sick of this ronaldinho, deco, and etoo talk.....if they want to stay and they are 110 percent sure they will all play like 2 seasons ago then they can go talk to guardiola and promise him.....every1 is like what barca is doing is wrong....those 3 players did so much for the club.......they did do so much but enough is enough.....they have done nothing the past two years! nothing!! so how long should barca keep them if they continue playing like ezquerro??? maybe if all three of them stopped looking for other clubs now and went to talk to guardiola, i bet he would listen.....bojan is so much less experienced than them and he acts more professional
