The Rest Of Saturday's Internationals

Players celebrate Puyol's goal

Not a bad night for the Barça players as Puyol, Busquets, Messi and Keita all scored to add to the two goals scored by Samuel Eto'o earlier in the day (see previous post). Spain won 0-3 in Estonia with good performances from Xavi, Iniesta and Puyol who scored Spain's third goal (Click here to see). There was not such good fortune for Pique, Bojan and Busquets playing for Spain's under-21 team who lost 2-1 away to Switzerland though Busquets did score Spain's goal.

Leo Messi followed up his headed goal against Sporting Gijon by nodding in Argentina's first goal after five minutes in the 2-1 win against Uruguay (Click here to see). Messi was subbed off in the 89th minute and Martin Caceres played the full 90 minutes for Uruguay.

Seydou Keita also got on the scoresheet as Mali beat Chad 2-1. Keita's goal was the first of the game in the 44th minute and he played the whole match. Let's hope he can started scoring soon for Barça.

Eric Abidal and Thierry Henry both played 90 minutes for France who came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 in Romania.

The worst of the night was for Eidur Gudjohnsen who played 90 minutes in Iceland's 2-0 defeat in Holland, and Rafa Marquez who played 90 minutes in Mexico's surprise 1-0 loss against Jamaica. Marquez was unfortunate to deflect a shot past his own keeper for the only goal of the game.

Later today Dani Alves could be in action as Brazil take on Venezuela.

If anyone wants to complain about Adbidal in LB for Barca, watch the France match with Abidal at CB and you will cry

His defending remains shocking at times (most of it lol). Henry played ok neither doing much wrong or impressing much. In my opinion with France's players they should be winning more especially with Benzema, Ribery, Henry, Nasri etc yet attacking wise they are very innefective.

Domenech is a prat. The sooner he gets sacked the quicker France can move forward.

Great to see Messi grab a goal and Barca Spanish contingent playing well and pushing Spain toward the WC 2010. It should be a cracking tournament even though there is still 2 years to go. Messi, Vela, Ageuro, Ronaldo, Kaka, Benzema, Ribery, Giovinco, dos Santos, Rooney, Pato, Torres... should all be in their prime by then which is just a mouth watering prospect!! =D

In the end Alves was left out of Brazil's team which won 0-4 in Venezuela.

Ronaldo should win Ballon d'Or, and he will win it.

Messi is a better player probably, however Ronaldo performed better overall and won more games single-handedly for Manchester United then Messi did for Barca. Man United and Ronaldo won the Premier League and the Champions league whereas Barca finished 4th in their league and won nothing. In that sense, Messi was let down by his team I suppose but all in all Ronaldo was more consistent whatever way you look at it.

I love watching Messi but there are certain things which can and will iomprove with age. If Barca win something this season Messi will definately win next year.

The only reason that Ronaldo may win the Ballon D' Or is the fact that he won the CL with Manchester United. This is the trend for years. However, there is no comparison between him and Messi when it comes to skill and talent. Ronaldo scored many of his goals against inferior opposition in the bottom half of the EPL or during FA Cup and against mediocre sides in the League Cup ties. Remember, he took ALL penalties and free kicks. Ronaldo seems to be missing in action against quality opposition . His performance for Portugal is below average. He manages to score once every three matches. He chokes in big matches: missing penalties and lack of creativity. Messi is hands down the better player: he is by far better dribbler and passer. Ronaldo is taller and tends to be good with headers. Real football fans and knowledegable coaches will pick Messi over Ronaldo almost everytime. It seems that only biased MU or envious Madrid fans would think otherwise. It could be a matter of time before the Diving One moves to Madrid. I doubt if he would have any impact in La Liga as he is having now in the EPL . Messi is the best. End of story !!

Belgium really needs to beat Spain tomorrow to keep its chances in the group alive. Anyone else concerned about a letdown for Spain?

I may have to apologize for our neighbours Belgium. They are giving Spain a hard time. What the Hell are Fabregas and Ramos doing starting for Spain ?!
