Toure Suffers Slipped Disk

Tuesday, 11 March 08, 03:36 PM · Comments (11)

According to the club website Toure Yaya is suffering from a discal hernia which if I'm not mistaken is called a herniated disc or slipped disc in English. The report says that he will not undergo surgery but will be treated with anti-inflammatory injections. This morning's El Pais were already suggesting that Toure could miss as much as three weeks due to his back problems.

This is terrible news on top of Messi's injury and also with Rafa Marquez struggling to recover from his foot problem. No doubt questions will be asked as to why doctors didn't see the problem and get Toure to rest as he obviously had back problems. But before we all jump on the bandwagon we should remember we are not there to see what goes on or to know what the doctors could see, I imagine those guys have been to school. Click here for more on herniated disks.

Oh Boy, when it rains it pours....... yet another disaster in a position and player that there is no true replacement for..... Look, bandwagon or not, something is up with our medical staff or training or something, as going back to last year we have been hit with wave after wave of injuries...... Just think about it aside from Valdes, Xavi, Iniesta, everyone else has had an injury of significance, Messi (several times), Puyol (twice), Ronnie (almost always), Henry (several times), Deco (several times), Sammy (broken bone, not a doctor's fault by it must be questioned as to why he was playing in a meaningless friendly on the Eve of the Season), Milito, Rafa (several Times), Yaya, I'm sure I'm leaving some out but this is just crazy... of course injuries are a part of the game, but there seem to be a disproportionate amount of pulled muscles, torn, muscles, ie ailments that would point to ill preparedness in either conditioning or warming up/stretching/.... It's not as if these are all broken bones due to collisions etc.... Something to me seems very wrong, in that I believe we have only fielded our full strength team for one fixture, I am not pointing fingers, because I wouldn't know where to point them but I will say to me going back to last year, the main reason we have not been able to play up to our capabilities is our squad on paper is not our squad on the field....... Two losses at home this year, No Messi in either one...... Of course a larger point is how much Lionel really is the focus of our team, and how without his explosiveness on the pitch we just seem to lack that speed and ability to throw the other team into dissaray..... Crazy when you think of the level of talent that is still playing, Ronnie, Sammy, Titi, Iniesta etc..... To me, I've been thinking more and more of starting Bojan as he does bring a good bit of mayhem to the pitch, we really picked up our game when her came on Sunday (until, Villareal countered then reality set in)..... Oh, and one more thing, does anyone else feel that despite his excellent ratings and statistics that Valdes is truly a subpar keeper in comparison to the strength of all our other positions????? I watched the kid from Schalke, and he was incredible.... It seems to me that Valdes while capable of the spectacular, often just doesn't handle the fundamentals, coming off his line, cutting down angles etc well at all......I know Casillas is off the charts but to see what he has done with such shaky defence, and Valdes has done with so much defensive talent at his disposal...... I know this is unpopular but really, I would be looking into the kid from Schalke (who apparently has a reasonable buyout) or Kameni from Espanyol (also a reasonable buyout)....... just some thoughts... sorry for the length of the posting......

Would be interesting to see the amount of injuries that we suffered compared to other teams.

And we all thought, ''2008 will be our year'' :(

Visca el Barca..

thats an interesting point about the medical staff, but hopefully its just bad luck. about VV i would have to disagree. he has had a few bad weeks lately, but that happens to every single goalkeeper. usually i think he is so solid and realiable and capable of some unbelivably saves. it would so wrong to replace him, before him we went through 6 or 7 years of donkey-crap keepres like Hesp, Bonano, and the biggest fool Dutruel. VV was a saving grace in goals. and kameni would never be a good replacement, he may have relfexes but his decision making is awful and general experience is very lacking.

I think Valdes has been great throughout this season. We shouldn't replace him, but giving him some solid competition would certainly be a good thing.

The injuries are no mystery to me & they have nothing to do with Barca's Medical staff! (ffs that is just so ridiculous) We are the most fouled team in the Universe.

Speeka:

But still we need to adress this. There was suggestion early that these injuries are due to the very light warming session the team takes prior to a match. I don't know. But even if we are the most fouled, this is becoming a problem. Messi could be the most fouled, But this season Abidal, Zambrotta, Puyol, Marquez and Toure all were in the injury list - these guys are really tough.

Yes they are tough, but they are also just guys. Not supermen, just men. Men get injured. The "suggestion" regarding a light warm up before a game, is news to me. Where did you hear this?
