Vote Of No Confidence Against Laporta Goes Ahead

Wednesday, 28 May 08, 10:26 AM · Comments (6)

With a couple of days to spare Oriol Giralt has reached the 5,882 votes needed to move the motió de censura on to the next stage which will be the actual vote of no confidence. Oddly enough ten years ago Joan Laporta was behind a similar move to try and oust president Josep Lluis Nuñez. On that occasion Nuñez won 61.5% of the vote to Laporta's 35.5% and Nuñez stayed in power until 2000. One of Nuñez's moves after this vote was to change the statutes of the club so that now for a vote of no confidence to succeed it needs to gain two-thirds of the votes and not just a simple majority. It is ironic that now Laporta will benefit from Nuñez's rule change.

The date for the vote has not yet been set, if Giralt wins two-thirds of the votes it will lead to presidential elections which could leave the club paralyzed until a new president was elected. Giralt has declared he has no intention of becoming president himself but that he wants to give the opportunity to another.

I have to wonder how anyone can vote against Laporta when there is no actual plan for who or what will replace him. It will leave the club in a bad position for preparing the new season. And therefore I urge all members reading to vote for Laporta.

you r 100% right , its just ridiculous to start such a move at this critical time of the year .. personally i am against laporta but i would have voted (if i had the right to do so) in any time of the year but not this time , i mean the coming period is the period that will decide the face of next season and we really need to be prepared ... btw have u ever seen a guy who does all the things that this guy (pictured) do with no intention to become a president ? i really doubt it

If I can I would vote for Laporta !!!! He has done nothing wrong. He bought all the best players last year. Its not his fault the players played bad or that Frank was horrible. And now every Day and I mean every day we hear about a new player coming to Barca. Why should I ever replace Laporta.

this is typical barcelona. always wanting instability and unrest in the board room. it was a major reason for our lack of success a decade ago. always stupid presidential battles. we always had great players but problems with stability. now some idiot wants to make a name for himself. anyone against laporta is confused. he brought stability to our club after the morons nunez and gaspart. laporta brought in rijkaard, ronaldinho, etoo, deco and that produced 50% of the CL trophies we have ever won. this whole situation is a load of shit.

Why would anybody think getting rid of a president in the transfer window is a good idea? The club needs to get new players and which new players are going to want to go to a club where there would be such instability with no president?

Laporta brought the Champions League to Barcelona for only the second time in the club's history. Surely he deserves more respect than he is getting. If the people proposing this petition really cared about Barcelona then they would not throw their club into such uncertainty but wait for two years and then make their voices heard. Do the people putting forward this petition have a plan if it works? Or are they just enjoying the vast amount of publicity they are receiving? Will players such as Benzema and Alves want to come to a club with no stability? I hope the members wake up and don't do this.

this guy obviously is a prick. What the hell is he doing they all are in this thing for self. Stupid people like him just make matters worse for Barca. I hope that Laporta maintains his position so the club can move on.

Correction, Laporta brough in Rijkaard and Etoo, Ronaldinho and Deco were signed by Rosell and both came to Barca cuz of their friendship with Sandro... After he left, Barca started to fall apart... coincidence? I think not.

Good to read someone stands up and speaks his mind vs Laporta. Yes, if the "amic Jan" is kicked out, there will be chaos, but im pretty sure there are guys out there with plans (Bassat, Rosell, even Minguella!) so dont worry.. also, its not the first time this happens, didnt Laporta do the same to Gaspart and we had an intern as president? Finally, imho is way better that there are no signings if a new president comes... what if those guys aint part of their project? ... like, even Guardiola could be replaced... so why planning something that could totally change in less than 1 month? would be a waste of money.

Rosell 4 President!!
