Will Ronaldinho Take Manchester City's Money?

Tuesday, 03 June 08, 11:49 AM · Comments (17)

Reports saying that Manchester City are prepared to offer Ronaldinho an incredible two hundred thousand pounds a week bring up a very interesting question of whether Ronnie is more interested in money or the beach. I have to say I can't imagine him wanting to go to Manchester which is famous for its rain, and I always remember a quote from Ronnie a few years ago when a team was trying to tempt him away with big money, he said "Here, I don't suffer from hunger" which would suggest that money is not everything to him.

Manchester City's chairman, the ex-prime minister of Thailand, Thaksin Sinawatra, is obviously a nutter to want to pay so much, and for Barça it would be great for someone to take the player off our hands. It seems that we could have a lot of problems offloading the unwanted this summer so we are lucky that there are some who are so clueless in how to run a football club. However, I have a feeling that Ronnie's answer will be "money can't buy me sun." If only Manchester had a better climate.

Still think with a different coach and even president things may change a whole lot for the team, inside and out. So I´d like Ronnie to stay. He has
held his mouth shut even with all the criticism his gotten, I don´t think he
deserves ALL of it.

if Barca get a better offer from M.city higher then ac milan offered before..and Dinho don`t want to stay, i think just let him go..

if he goes to citeh it will just be the latest stain on his already tarnished reputation. it will be simply embarrasing. getting ur ass kicked week in week out by other teams and then having to shake hands after the match when ur opponents just look at you as greedy. however, i dont think he will go. lets hope this summer of running aroudn teh beach can get him to forget the past and refocus

he wdn't go to manchester city for 200K/week but he would probably go to ac milan for 200K/week.

it's about stature too. i'm sure ronnie wd wanna end up at a club who competes in the champions league consistently or something.

I heard he rejected their offer before i don't see why he would change his mind now. I really want to see Ronaldinho stay i still think he has a lot to offer he just needs to be given th opportunity to do so.

I really think with the talent of this club, and the playmakers (God willingly healthy) can do big things together. With a little defensive improvement (which was the OBVIOUS WEAKNESS) via transfer the sky is the limit . Patience pays off in life and loyalty mixed with time, solidarity and familiarity with each other can pay big dividends for Barca. I really don't see how a club anywhere can be better off by discarding an ACE (Ronaldinho) ever. As Axel Rose said (Guns N Roses) so poignantly "All we need is just a little patience." throw in defense and they will succeed again. Ronny was not the reason for the poo poo season no one was, but the team cannot be better off minus a world class player. As for Manchester City, don't make me laugh... if any world class player in their right minds would sell their career off to an obvious 2nd tier team, then they deserve a 2nd tier career. He deserves a world class career (Barca provides that). The Barcelona resurrection is coming... have faith, belief and support our asses off!!!

I agree.. why would a someone with Ronaldinhos capability want to transfer a team who is not a CL contender or league contender?

I don't think even he is that hungry for money. For God's sake, he is only 28.. which is still young.

Lets hope Pep and his teammates motivate him and get him back to the way the world knows hes capable of. Do not write off Ronnie for a second.

A small memo to Ronaldinho. If you leave you just ended your carrier and your stardom. Your still one of the best players in Barca. No matter how much you screw up we will still forgive you. But If you go to another club, and your out of shape at the moment they will hate you because they found no reason to love you like we did therefore they will sell you to an even smaller club. Money will be great for the next year Ronnie but if you stay you will have money, fame & stardom

I have followed Barcelona for a while now and I have come to realise that Barcelona look for quick fixes and they talk a lot about "cycles". Getting rid of Ronaldinho is not the smart thing to do, he is still a wolrd class player who was loyal for years, he has one season where he was hampered by injuries and it's "off with his head". What he needs is a coach who will not ply into the superstar mentality and make him want to get into shape. I think a motivated Ronaldinho (a la 2004-2007), AND yes I count the 2007 a success for him, will come back with the magic that we won the champions league with. Barcelona needs to stop signing "names" (example: Hleb) and start signing players.

Stop talking about cycles and start talking about NOW, Manchester United is on a very long "cycle" and they do it by trusting their players and signing a few good players every year. When was the last time Man Utd had a massive overhual like Barcelona wants this year? Sign players, make them love the club, make them loyal, sing a manager that will instill confidence and loyalty and a manager that can connect with the players. What Barcelona needs is motivation not "cycles", the whole "cycle" argument is an excuse by an under-fire club president in an effort to make the poor form seem less. It's time for Barcelona to get into the "reload" attitude instead of the "rebuild" attitude.

i agree with joe henry..
ronnie should consider his career in longterm,
is there any other club will love and care about him like barca did. ?
i don't think so... i think Pep and the other Barca players
should help him.. hope he will never leave Barca as long as
he still have a chance to improve again.
