Zenit St Petersburg have announced on their webpage that they have ended negotiations with Barça for the sale of Andrei Arshavin. Barça made an offer of €15 million for the player who thrilled Europe with his performance against Holland in the Euro 2008 quarter final. Zenit are said to be looking for a price in the range of €25-30 million, but they also say that Barça are the only club to have made an offer so far. The fact that the player has publically stated that he wants to play at Camp Nou may play in Barça's favour, hopefully we are just playing hardball in the hope that the Russians drop their asking price. Zenit coach Dick Advocaat has said that Arshavin will not play again for Zenit until his future is cleared up.
More than 15 million for him is just insane (specially when they are asking for 25-30m). I think he is an amazing player, but those price tags are just crazy, I mean, Ronaldinho costed 24m, he was very young and EVERYONE knew he had the potential for being number 1, Arshavin is good, but already 27 and wont get any better than what he is now... pity Zenit got greedy and didnt allow the kid to take a huge step in his career.

if barca sign him let's hope he doesn't turn into a karel poborsky!
While I understand that some people feel Arshavin is riding a wave of hype based only on two performances in Euro 2008 (he certainly disappeared against Spain), the cross he delivered for the second goal against Holland was enough to convince me he could contribute mightily to the Barca attack. Not only is the man a legitimate playmaker who can play many positions, he is hungry for the move. What more can we ask for than a proven star whose boyhood dream is to wear the blaugrana shirt? I really hope this isn't the end of the story here. For me, signing him would be a hugely exciting way to start the 08-09 campaign.
