It's taken me longer than expected but finally I bring you the Fcbnews Player by Player Review of the Season. For each player there is a brief resumé followed by the statistics for La Liga, Champions League, Copa del Rey and overall figures. There is also a player rating taken as an average for their ratings in every game this season. I would say that anything above 6.5 is an excellent score. It is interesting to see that three of the most argued-about players, Abidal, Eto'o and Valdés all achieved the same score of 6.55 for the season. Only Manchester United stand in the way of a historic treble for Football Club Barcelona. Despite going a goal down in the ninth minute, Barça hit back through Toure Yaya and then blew Athletic away with three second half goals in the space of ten minutes. It is three years since we last won a trophy, it is the first that we can celebrate on this blog on the second anniversary of its beginning. May it be the first of many.

Pep Guardiola has named 18 players for the trip to Valencia for tomorrow's Copa del Rey final against Athletic Bilbao (kick off 10pm). While Eric Abidal is suspended we are also without the injured Andres Iniesta, Thierry Henry, Rafa Marquez and Gabi Milito. The two clubs are the cup kings in Spain, Barça having won the cup a record 24 times with Athletic just one behind on 23 wins. We all know that Gerard Piqué's goal against Real Madrid on Saturday was Barça's 100th goal in La Liga this season, but did you know it also meant that it took Barça's overall goal difference in all competions to +100? In the league we have scored 100 and only conceded 28 (+72), in the Champions League we have 33 goals in favour and 13 against (+20), while in the Copa del Rey we have knocked in another 13 and conceded 5 (+8), taking our overall figures to: goals scored 146, goals conceded 46. The games are coming thick and fast now. On Saturday we travel to Getafe (kick off 8pm) and then next Wednesday we face Sevilla at Camp Nou (kick off 10pm). Meanwhile rivals Real Madrid will play at Recreativo on Saturday at 10pm, they then receive Getafe on Tuesday 21st at 9pm. After Sevilla we travel to Valencia the following weekend, it's then Chelsea in the Champions League on April 28, Real Madrid away the following weekend and then the return with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on May 6 followed by Villarreal at home and then the Copa del Rey final with

Barça scraped a place in the final of the Copa del Rey against Athletic Bilbao after a 1-1 draw in Mallorca. A magnificent goal from Castro on the stroke of half time put Barça on the ropes, and when Mallorca won a penalty early in the second half resulting in the sending off of Martin Caceres it looked like we were going to suffer a humilliating elimination. However, Jose Pinto saved the kick from Marti and Leo Messi came on for the last half an hour, causing the sending off of Josemi and then scoring the equalizer with ten minutes to go.

Pep Guardiola has named the entire first team squad including the injured players to make the trip to Mallorca to defend the 2-0 lead in the return game of the Copa del Rey semi final. After the first leg win four weeks ago in looked certain that Barça had done enough to secure a place in the final in Valencia on May 13, but the recent drop in form have put doubts in our minds and memories of two years ago when we lost a first leg 5-2 lead to Getafe have added to those doubts. It is clear that this game is vital to our season, not just to get to the final but also to restore confidence which will be so important in the other two competitions.

The good news is that Andres Iniesta has been declared fit again but I imagine he will start the game on...

Barça did little more than go through the motions tonight but it was sufficient to earn a two goal advantage to take into the second leg in Mallorca at the start of March. Thierry Henry with a first half header and Rafa Marquez with a free kick in the second half scored the two goals which should be enough to see Barça through to the final in Valencia on May 13th. Guardiola made the usual changes for the cup with Pinto, Sylvinho, Gudjohnsen, Hleb and Bojan coming into the team, but the other six starters all began the game at Racing on Sunday.
