Good news for Culés in California. The last game of Barça's summer tour of the United States will be at San Francisco's Candlestick Park stadium against Chivas of Guadalajara. The game will take place on August 9 at 0500h Spanish time. I'm not 100% on the time difference but I believe California is nine hours behind Spain so in San Francisco I presume the game will kick off at 8pm on Saturday 8th August. Maybe someone can confirm this. Last year we beat Chivas 5-2 in a preseason game in Chicago.
Our preseason schedule now looks like this. (times are Spanish local time)
July 24 - Tottenham (Wembley 9pm)
July 26 - Al-Ahly (Wembley 2.15pm)
Aug 1 - Los Angeles Galaxy (Rose Bowl, Pasedena 5am)
Aug 5 - Seattle Sounders (Qwest...

It's taken me longer than expected but finally I bring you the Fcbnews Player by Player Review of the Season. For each player there is a brief resumé followed by the statistics for La Liga, Champions League, Copa del Rey and overall figures. There is also a player rating taken as an average for their ratings in every game this season. I would say that anything above 6.5 is an excellent score. It is interesting to see that three of the most argued-about players, Abidal, Eto'o and Valdés all achieved the same score of 6.55 for the season. You can make your own conclusions, here's the review:
Victor Valdes: Another good season from...

A goal from Samuel Eto'o in the 89th minute earned Barça an undeserved 1-1 draw in Riazor tonight. Our Champions League hangover was clear for all to see and we lacked the intensity that has played a big part to our successes this season. Eto'o's goal took our season's total in the league to 105 but it wasn't quite enough to beat Real Madrid's record of 107. However, for Eto'o it was his 30th league goal which was not enough to win this year's pichichi award but he is the first player to score thirty league goals in a season for Barça since Ronaldo scored 34 in the 1996/7 season.
The game was also a chance to see the team in next season's away strip, and I have to say I was less than...

First off, apologies for not doing a match preview fot this game. The season should have finished on Wednesday night but we now have what is a pretty meaningless match to us which we will probably lose just as we have lost our last two league matches. I suppose there is still a possible interest in that we could equal or beat Madrid's record of 107, but quite honestly I can't see the players being focused enough to score three goals tonight. Hopefully I am wrong.
I imagine you are all at the beach or at a barbeque somewhere but if you are out there reading then this match thread is here for you. My prediction for the game is a 2-1 victory for Deportivo. I'll post team news as soon as it is announced.

Yes, I know nobody cares about this one, but just in case you do our last game of the season against Deportive De La Coruña has been set for Saturday 30th May with a kick off time of 9pm. The only thing at stake is that we need three goals to equal Real Madrid's record of 107 league goals in a season and four to beat it, while Samuel Eto'o needs...oh, forget it.

The fiesta at Camp Nou this evening to celebrate our fantastic season was spoilt today, not so much by the 0-1 defeat to Osasuna, but more so by the absurd decision by referee Rubinos Perez to send off 17-year-old debutant Marc Muniesa for foul that was never worthy of anything more than a yellow card. Pep Guardiola was also sent off for protesting the decision and Camp Nou demonstrated with one of the biggest protests against a referee seen in years. The lack of a goal makes our task of beating Madrid's 107 goals in a season more complicated and Samuel Eto'o hasseen Diego Forlan overtake him tonight in the battle for the individual pichichi top scorer's award.
With the Champions League final...

Just a quick preview today as nobody really cares what happens in this game. Samuel Eto'o has declared that he hopes to play but if Pep Guardiola has any sense he will leave the striker out to prepare for next Wednesday's big game. Dani Alves will miss the rest of the season through injury so perhaps he will feel that it was just as well that he was suspended for Rome already. Thierry Henry today returned to train with the group though he is still not at 100% while Andres Iniesta continued his own recovery training on his own. The signs are good that both players will be in the starting line-up against United.
Osasuna are in desperate need for points as the are in the relegation zone with just two games to play. They haven't won...

Next Wednesday night in Rome Football Club Barcelona have the opportunity of joining a unique club of teams. In the history of the game only four teams have ever completed the feat of winning domestic league, domestic cup and the European Cup in one season. Glasgow Celtic were the first team to achieve this in the 1966/7 season, Ajax followed in 1971/2, then came PSV Eindhoven in 1987/8 and the last team to do so were Manchester United in 1998/9.
Without wanting to take anything away from the first three, it could be said that they all won the European Cup when it was a straight knock-out competition and therefore perhaps depended slightly more on luck. At the same time the first three all play in one of...

A bit late with this one but it wasn't announced till last night and I've been busy. Anyway the LFP have announced the kick off times for this weekend and Barça's game at home to Osasuna has been set for 9pm on Saturday. This will give us one day more to prepare for the Champions League final than our rivals Manchester United who play at Hull on Sunday afternoon. However, as neither team is likely to use many of the players who will feature in Rome it doesn't really make much difference. Nevertheless, any small advantage that can play in our favour is more than welcome.

Samuel Eto'o missed a penalty with the last kick of the game which meant that Barça 2-1 lost tonight at Mallorca. Having won the league last night Pep Guardiola fielded a weakened team, so perhaps a defeat was to be expected. However, Barça had plenty of chances to win the game, nearly all of them for Eto'o, but it was not the Cameroonian's day. He took his first chance well to put Barça ahead after ten minutes but second half goals from Arengo and Cleber Santana turned the game in Mallorca's favour.
As neither team had anything to play for it was to be expected that the intensity of the game was not high. Barça seemed concerned with simply trying to help Eto'o,...
