Ferguson "Barça Have Better Moral Issues Than Madrid"

Friday, 23 May 08, 04:05 PM

Sir Alex Ferguson attacked Real Madrid for their unethical ways of trying to sign Cristiano Ronaldo by comparing Madrid unfavourably with Barça. Ferguson said he knew many big clubs in Europe were interested in signing Ronaldo but only Madrid went to such an extent of continually using the press to try to unsettle players. Click here to read more and see the Ferguson video.

Barça Postpone Al-Ittihad Friendly

Friday, 23 May 08, 10:39 AM

Barça have arrived at an agreement with Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad to postpone the friendly match between the clubs which was scheduled for Monday. The reason is that Barça do not have enough players available. With some players on international duty and others out injured, Barça did not want to take players from the B team as they are playing the promotion play-offs next week. This means that Frank Rijkaard has aleady had his last match in charge.

Chelsea Fail To Use Belletti's Potential

Wednesday, 21 May 08, 10:50 PM

One important lesson to remember in football is that when you have Juliano Belletti sitting on the bench in a Champions League final you have to bring him on before the third minute of injury time to get the best use out of him. Belletti of course scored his penalty but his team mates let him down.

Murcia-Barça Preview

Friday, 16 May 08, 02:14 PM

Barça play the last league game of a disappointing season tomorrow night at Murcia (kick off 10pm). Frank Rijkaard has named just 17 players for his last game in charge including Fali and Rueda again from the B team. Iniesta has not recovered in time from his knee problems and Deco and Marquez both miss the trip through injury, Edmilson is suspended while of course Milito and Toure both had operations this week.

Murcia will be hoping their last home game in the top division ends with a victory, but Javier Clemente's team have only won one point in their last six games. Hopefully Clemente will give a game to exciting 17-year-old striker Dani Aquino who is the son of the former player of the same name who also played for Murcia as well as for Betis, Albacete, Rayo Vallecano and Merida.

Barça To Play Al-Ittihad Of Saudi Arabia

Tuesday, 13 May 08, 08:32 PM

Barça have confirmed they will play a friendly on May 26th against Saudi Arabian team Al-Ittihad. The game will take place at Al-Ittihad's Abdullah al-Faisal stadium in Jeddah. Al-Ittihad were close to signing an unpopular ex-Barça player last summer but the deal fell through because the money-grabbing player in question wanted more money. The plans for a game in Kuwait against Kazma SC have been put on hold for the time being. Last season Barça played a friendly in Cairo with Egyptian side Al-Ahly. Bojan Krkic made his first team debut in that match, scoring in a 4-0 win.

Should Barça Let Eto'o Go?

Tuesday, 13 May 08, 01:29 PM

I would never in a million years have thought that Samuel Eto'o could be booed by Camp Nou. Last summer I argued that I wouldn't sell Eto'o for €100 million, basically because I believe there is no other forward in the world who could replace him. Eto'o is vital to Barça's system, not just for the goals he scores but for the way he works as the first line of defence by chasing down defenders and goalkeepers. However, after Sunday's game with Mallorca and the reaction of the crowd and the response from Eto'o, I am beginning to wonder if it might be better to let him go now.

Don't get me wrong, I love Samuel Eto'o and I love the way he works for the team. I can not understand how people can boo a player who has done so much for the club. The press has to take part of the blame for stirring u...

Barça-Mallorca Preview

Saturday, 10 May 08, 05:43 PM

Frank Rijkaard has only sixteen first team players available for tomorrow evening's match with Mallorca (kick off 9pm). This will be Rijkaard's last home match in charge and he has brought in two players from the B team, Rafael Romero Serrano, known as "Fali", and Jose Manuel Rueda to make up the numbers. Fali is 22 years old and normally plays at right back while the 20-year-old Rueda plays in midfield.

Barça have a problem in midfield as Iniesta and Gudjohnsen are both injured and Marquez and Xavi are both suspended. Ronaldinho, Sylvinho and Milito are also out injured, but Eto'o and Deco return after missing the game with Madrid through suspension. There really is very little to play for in this game for Barça. We cannot finish second anymore, while at the same time we already have a top f...

Preview: Real Madrid Vs Barça

Tuesday, 06 May 08, 03:59 PM

Toure Yaya returns to the squad sooner than expected in time for tomorrow night's El Clasico in Madrid (kick off 10pm). With Madrid already champions the spotlight will be on the Barça players who have to applaud the Madrid team onto the pitch. I don't really care about the supposed embarrassment of this, what is much more important is that our players restore some pride by beating them on the pitch.

Ronaldinho, Milito and Iniesta are all out injured while Eto'o and Deco are both suspended for the game. I find the suggestion from some parts of the press that these players deliberately got booked against Valencia a bit hard to believe. If it is true then neither player deserves to be at the club. However, I believe it is much more likely that it is just the press trying to stir things up to sell...
