Barça Close To Signing Alves, Keita And Pique

Friday, 16 May 08, 11:37 AM

After all the rumours this week it seems that negotiations with three players are in an advanced stage. If transfer fees can be agreed with the clubs, the first signings of the summer could be Dani Alves and Seydou Keita from Sevilla, and Gerard Pique from Manchester United.

We all know Alves, an attacking right back who scores and makes goals with great crosses, this season he has three goals and eleven assists to his name. He also has quite a temperament which has seen him sent off twice th...

Barça Press Speculate With Kaka, Cech And Adebayor

Wednesday, 14 May 08, 07:56 PM

With the end of the season drawing close it is no surprise that the Catalan sports press is full of stories of who Barça are going to buy and sell in the summer. El Sport headlined with the story of Kaka being a possible target, seeing as Ronaldinho and Zambrotta could both be on their way to Milan, the paper speculated with the idea that a deal could be struck with Kaka signing for Barça in exchange for Ronnie, Zambo and €20 million. A nice story perhaps, but the idea that Silvio Berlusconi will let Kaka go is extremely hard to believe.

Next up was El Mundo Deportivo who had scooped an exclusive interview with Arsenal's Emmanuel Adebayor where he is quoted as saying that no-one could say no to Barça. Adebayor has done well this season and has scored 24 goals in the ...

Barça Decide On Guardiola To Replace Rijkaard

Monday, 05 May 08, 10:26 PM

It's not official yet but all the Spanish sports press are running the story that the decision was taken in a meeting of the Comision Delegada this afternoon for Pep Guardiola to take over from Frank Rijkaard as Barça's coach at the end of the season. While I will be reasonably happy with the choice I have to question how easily these decisions are then leaked to the press. It shows an enormous lack of respect from the "leaker" for Frank Rijkaard. In my opinion Laporta should find out who told the press and act accordingly.

Mourinho Says No To Barça

Saturday, 03 May 08, 11:26 AM

The press have been going a bit crazy this week with non-stop speculation about the comings and goings at Barça. There has been a lot of talk about Jose Mourinho again as next season's coach but today Marca claim he has not accepted Barça's proposal to have him as coach with Pep Guardiola as his number two. According to the report Mourinho believes Barça haven't shown enough confidence in him. Presumably he would want to choose his own assistant.

Barça And Milan Fail To Agree Price For Ronaldinho

Monday, 21 April 08, 09:58 PM

Barça and Milan are a long way from agreeing to a transfer fee for Ronaldinho. Reports say that Barça are asking for €50million for Ronnie and Zambrotta who would be included in the deal, while Milan say they are only prepared to pay €20million for the pair. It looks like it could be a long summer of negotiations, and it just goes to show you can't believe a politician. Last week Silvio Berlusconi was telling everyone the deal was as good as done.

Eto'o Threatens To Leave Barça

Sunday, 20 April 08, 10:20 PM

In an interview broadcast today on the Spanish radio station RAC 1, Samuel Eto'o declared that if things continued the same and Barça didn't win anything next season, he will look for a move abroad. Eto'o stated that he had reached the top in Spain at Barça but he wanted to win titles and if that if he left Barça it would be to move to a club in another country.

If that was bad news, worse was to come when Barça's director Ferran Sorriano announced on BBC Radio's Five Live that Thierry Henry is happy at Barça and that he will stay at the club next season. Let's just hope it is only talk, it's been a bad enough day with those cabrones from Madrid winning.

Txiki Goes After Benzema

Wednesday, 16 April 08, 03:19 PM

Barça have decided that one of the players they most want for next season is Lyon's Karim Benzema. Txiki Begiristain travelled to Lyon yesterday where he met with Lyon's Director of Sport, Bernard Lacombe, and he watched Benzema score in the 1-0 win over Metz in the French Cup.

According to newspaper reports this morning Barça are prepared to bid €3o million for the 20-year-old Benzema who recently extended his contract at Lyon until 2013. Lyon are not a club to sell cheaply, but despite their efforts their best players such as Essien or Diarra, are eventually allowed to leave.

I think Benzema would be an excellent addition to the squad. He is young and hungry, he scores with both feet, is very quick and is also good in the air. The signing, however, is not going to be easy, and I fe...

Ronaldinho To Milan For €30Million

Friday, 11 April 08, 11:46 AM

According to both major Catalan sports papers Ronaldinho's transfer to AC Milan is as good as done. Txiki Begiristain met Ernesto Bronzetti, acting for Milan, yesterday to discuss a transfer fee which is supposedly in the region of thirty million euros. Later Bronzetti met Ronaldinho's brother, Roberto de Assis, to discuss personal terms, and in the evening De Assis was flown in Silvio Berlosconi's personal jet to have dinner with Milan administrator Adriano Galliano.

Thirty million is more than was first expected in Barcelona but it seems that Berlosconi is desperate to make the move official as quickly as possible because on Sunday he is standing in the Italian presidential elections. For Barcelona it has been a love affair that had to come to an end, three very happy years followed by a slow dec...

Ronaldinho To Manchester City?

Monday, 07 April 08, 12:50 PM

According to today's Guardian Ronaldinho's brother and agent Roberto de Assis was seen at Manchester City's ground before Saturday's game with Chelsea. He is supposedly negotiating a possible transfer of Ronaldinho to the English club. The report says that City's owner Thai millionaire Thaksin Shinawatra would be more than happy to pay Ronaldinho wages of over €125,000 a week.

This is not the first time Ronaldinho's brother has been said to be negotiating a move. Last August he reportedly met Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, and just last week he was photographed in Milan with representatives of AC Milan. Whatever the case, it looks like we are nearing the end of Ronaldinho's era at Barça. This could turn out to be the best thing for both club and player as continuing reports about the pl...
