It was a good weekend for two of Barça's African players. On Saturday Samuel Eto'o scored both goals including a last minute winner in Cameroon's 2-1 victory over Tanzania, while yesterday Seydou Keita scored twice in Mali's 3-0 win over Sudan. Both Cameroon and Mali lead their respective qualifying groups for the 2010 World Cup.

I am aware that not all readers will be as interested in Euro 2008 as others, so I'm pleased to remind you that some of our non-European players are still in action for their countries in World Cup 2010 qualifiers. New signing Martin Caceres played 90 minutes for Uruguay in a 1-1 draw at home to Venezuela. Reports say that Caceres had a shot saved in the first half but he was close to scoring an own goal in the second half.
Samuel Eto'o played 90 minutes in Cameroon's 0-0 draw at Tanzania. This was Cameroon's first slip up but they remain top of their group with 7 points from 3 games. They have a return game at home to Tanzania next week. Meanwhile Mali lost 3-2 at Sudan, but I am unable to find i...

Samuel Eto'o may be on his way out of Barça but he is still scoring goals for Cameroon. The Indomitable Lions cruised to a 0-3 win over Mauritius in a World Cup 2010 qualifier yesterday and Eto'o scored the second goal. Cameroon are now top of the group with six points from two games. Last week they beat Cape Verde 2-0 with Eto'o scoring one from the penalty spot. This was of course after Eto'o's headbutting incident with a journalist. Leo Messi was also on show yesterday playing the first 45 minutes of Argentina's 0-0 draw with USA in New York. Did any readers see this game?

Samuel Eto'o was involved in an incident yesterday which apparently ended with him headbutting a journalist. Eto'o is with the Cameroon national team preparing for a friendly with Cape Verde. At yesterday's press conference the reporters staged a protest because the Cameroon football federation gave limited access to training sessions. Apparently, insults were exchanged between footballers and members of the press which ended with the unfortunate incident involving Eto'o and a journalist named Phillippe Boney. According to Mr. Boney Eto'o headbutted him and he was then assaulted by bodyguards of the player. The incident is also reported in the Cameroon webpage Camfoot.com, unfortunately my French is not good but if anyone can translate at least just to give a general idea of what happened, please send a comment. Here'...

In an interview broadcast today on the Spanish radio station RAC 1, Samuel Eto'o declared that if things continued the same and Barça didn't win anything next season, he will look for a move abroad. Eto'o stated that he had reached the top in Spain at Barça but he wanted to win titles and if that if he left Barça it would be to move to a club in another country.
If that was bad news, worse was to come when Barça's director Ferran Sorriano announced on BBC Radio's Five Live that Thierry Henry is happy at Barça and that he will stay at the club next season. Let's just hope it is only talk, it's been a bad enough day with those cabrones from Madrid winning.

Samuel Eto'o has been fined €12,000 by the Real Federacion Española de Futbol (RFEF) for his celebration after Barça won La Liga in 2005. Eto'o chanted "Madrid cabron saluda al campeon" which is one of the favourite chants here from the fans when Barça win anything. Literally translated it means "Madrid, bastard, salute the champion" The RFEF considered Eto'o's action to be "very serious" and that it could "incite violence" but they took into account the fact that Eto'o had publicly apologied the following day.
While I admit that Eto'o's celebration was not the most gracious in victory, I think the RFEF have made an unjust decision. Where is the consistency when Luis Aragones gets a €3,000 fine for his racist comments? Were Eto'o's words four...

Just a quick roundup of today's news, I've had a long day at work and I ought to think about taking out my better half tonight. First story is that Barça have signed a 14-year-old wonderkid called Mauro Icardi. Born in Argentina but with an Italian passport, Mauro has played for the Canary Island team UD Vecindario for the last five years scoring more than 500 goals for their junior teams. Barça beat Real Madrid, Liverpool and Arsenal, among others, to sign him. Click here to see him in action.
I'm sure you already know that Samuel Eto'o arrived back in Barcelona today and the medics say he has a strained femoral biceps muscle in the left leg. Eto'o will miss the game in Zaragoza which will no doubt disappoint the racist twats among their supp...

Another day passes and Samuel Eto'o is still not back in Barcelona. It was originally thought he would return yesterday, this then changed to today, but now the news says that he won't be back until tomorrow, Thursday. It now seems impossible that he will play in Zaragoza on Saturday. The fault, however, is not Eto'o's but the Cameroon delegate who made a mess of organizing plane tickets, Carlos Kameni the Espanyol and Cameroon goalkeeper will also not arrive until tomorrow. Fifa rules state that players must return to their clubs within 48 hours of playing for their countries.
All reports suggest that Eto'o should be ok for the Celtic game next Wednesday but until he gets back and has tests, we will not know the extent of his injury. The good news for Barça is that Carles Puyol is recov...

It wasn't to be for Samuel Eto'o and Cameroon who lost 1-0 to Egypt in the African Cup Of Nations final today in Accra. Egypt were deserved winners and scored the only goal of the game when Abou Trika made the most of a dreadful defensive mistake by Rigobert Song. Eto'o only had a couple of half chances in the first half and ended the game holding the back of his leg with an obvious injury. Hopefully it is nothing serious, but with our record for injuries at the moment he will probably have to miss two months.
