Barça-Sevilla Preview And Ronaldinho

Saturday, 22 September 07, 10:48 AM

Sevilla visit Camp Nou tonight in a game which marks the 50th anniversary of the stadium. The match will be preceded by various celebratory acts and the new plan for the redevelopment of the stadium will be revealed.

Ronaldinho will be the centre of attention in the match after a couple of rumour filled days. It has been claimed that he was out clubbing less than 48 hours before the Osasuna game, Ronnie has denied the story. It is difficult to know if there is any truth in the rumours, but many are questioning the Brazilian, and Frank Rijkaard has substituted him in the last two games. Personally, I think there have been signs that he will have a better season, he hasn't been great so far but he is training normally unlike last season when he spent most of the time in the gym. With all the b...

International Round-up

Thursday, 13 September 07, 02:07 PM

There were mixed fortunes for Barça players in the latest international matches. Ronaldinho came out better than Rafa Marquez as Brazil beat Mexico 3-1 in Boston, Giovani dos Santos came on as sub for the last 16 minutes.

Xavi scored Spain's opening goal in their 2-0 win over Latvia, Andres Iniesta played most of the second half after coming on as sub for David Villa. There was also a successful night for Zambrotta who played all 90 minutes of Italy's 1-2 win in the Ukraine.

Leo Messi had a good game, hitting the post and setting up Argentina's goal, scored by Demichelis, in the 1-0 win over Australia in Melbourne. And Eidur Gudjohnsen played his first match since his injury, coming on in the 53rd minute of Iceland's 2-1 win over Northern Ireland.

There was a poor night, however, for Thuram ...

Ronaldinho Shines For Brazil (And Other News)

Monday, 10 September 07, 10:46 AM

Ronaldinho Gaucho capped a fine performance with a goal in Brazil's 4-2 win over USA in yesterday's friendly match. Ronnie also played a part in Brazil's first two goals. First he set up Kaka to shoot and the goalkeeper's save rebounded off a defender for an own goal. Lucio then headed home a Ronaldinho corner to put Brazil 2-1 up early in the second half. Ronnie's goal came in the 75th minute when he converted a free kick.

In the weekend's other international games, Iniesta came on as sub to save a point for Spain with a late goal in the 1-1 draw in Iceland, Xavi and Gudjohnsen played the 90 minutes.

Zambrotta, Abidal, Thuram and Thierry Henry all played in the 0-0 draw between Italy and France. Henry picked up a booking and will now miss France's game against Scotland through suspension. Deco played 90 mi...

Ronaldinho Obtains Double Nationality

Monday, 27 August 07, 06:20 PM

Ronaldinho will no longer occupy a non-european place as today he swore on the Spanish constitution to become officially a Spanish citizen. Giovani dos Santos is also expected to gain Spanish citizenship in the next few days. This means that Barça will have only Eto'o and Touré as non-EU players.

World's Top 50 Players

Thursday, 09 August 07, 01:55 AM

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/columnists/gabriele_marcotti/article1963015.ece

This has been on various sites but I thought I'd give it the Barça angle. Five Barça players make the top 21 places which is pretty impressive. Messi should be higher than ninth and perhaps Eto'o is a bit high at fourth. What I can't understand is there's no place for Xavi, Iniesta or Deco while Cesc Fabregas is 18th. Losing Fabregas was a shame for Barça but I think he made the right decision because he still wouldn't have got into Barça's team today.

Another flaw in the list is making Sergio Ramos of Madrid 13th. Above Puyol!? Are you ma...

Ronaldinho Motivated

Thursday, 26 July 07, 10:57 AM

Ronaldinho Gaucho is raring to go. After enjoying his holidays it seems that his batteries are fully recharged and this season should see him training normally instead of spending so much time in the gymnasium. "This year I have had holidays and I've been able to start work with my team mates from the first day, something I haven't been able to do in the last few seasons. I am very motivated and very keen to start again"
Ronnie also spoke of the ongoing interest from AC Millan. "It's always nice to know that other teams are interested, but I am very happy here and my mind is set on Barcelona. I am not thinking about anything that is not FC Barcelona which is where I see my future."
When asked about the possibilities of being named substitute at some point of the season, Ronaldinho did not see a problem. "I...

Ronaldinho Will Miss Derby

Friday, 08 June 07, 10:44 AM

As expected, the Comité Español de Disciplina Deportiva (CEDD) have turned down Barça's appeal against Ronaldinho's one-match ban, so Barça will definitely take on local rivals Espanyol without their Brazilian star. This probably means a place in the starting eleven for both Andres Iniesta and Thiago Motta.
