WE DON'T NEED NO EDUCATION WE DONT NEED NO THOUGHT CONTROL

There is refreshed speculation today that the club are on the verge of a takeover bid. I hope that this is untrue. We are just getting on track after a shaky period and unrest at the top always translates into the dressing room. At the AGM last night Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark Hill-Wood, an Arsenal man if ever there was one, ensured the fans that the club will always come before the interests of a potential majority shareholder. He said in the Telegraph: “We will strive to maintain the custodianship of the club as it is…………We do not want control handed over to somebody who has not got Arsenal in their blood. Rest assured, we are not going to sell out to the first man who comes along.” Does this infer that they are ready to sell to somebody? The rhetoric of a man such as Hill-Wood, a man who is prone to insane outbursts.

Mr. Wenger had a lot to say at the AGM, which is important for the supporters. It is good that our manager recognises the value of talking to the fans. However, yesterday Mr Wenger said that he believes that the team is not receiving the support it deserves from us. Of course we get behind the team but to ask for blind adoration is going too far. We understand that the team cannot win every game and every trophy all the time, but in a time of increasing ticket prices and cynical merchandising we expect the club to compete for the top prizes at least and for the last few seasons we have been short. It is our right to criticise just as it is our right to whoop and cheer. The fans invest money (often a large percentage of their income) and emotion into the club and we expect a return.  For me, the real issue isn’t that we haven’t competed and that we have a young and often spineless team at the moment, it is that just 4 years ago we were in a position of total dominance, with a team of excellent players and that was (deliberately?) allowed to collapse. We won the league without losing a single match. An incredible feat. But we sold the team off and our position of dominance was handed feebly to Chelsea and Manchester United. That is what really pisses me off. That we failed to build from a position of strength. Something that Mr. Wenger has never been able to do, as demonstrated by his inability to win back-to-back titles. The trouble is that everything that is said at these meetings and in interviews is complete bollocks. The manager is never going to come out and say he can’t win the league, and I wouldn’t expect him too but I sometimes think he convinces himself that he can do it when really he, the players and the fans all recognize deep down tat we aren’t capable at the moment. The negative side of convincing himself is that he doesn’t take the appropriate steps to resolves key issues, e.g. we cant defend etc.  Anyway, as an Arsenal fan I am inherently picky. Mr. Wenger is one of the top managers in the game and I wouldn’t swop him for anybody else but I am getting impatient. Playing an exciting brand of football means dick all if you don’t win and Man Utd and Chelsea are just as exciting as we are and they win.   Wenger has hinted that he could reinforce his squad with signings in the January transfer window but we have that before so don’t get too excited everybody. We have been linked with Frenchman Blaise Matuidi but this is probably bullshit. The 21-year-old midfielder was apparently a target of Mr. Wenger prior to this season, but St Etienne blocked a move. The player has since admitted that he would like a move to the Emirates Stadium and is set for ‘talks’ with his club at the end of the season. I must admit it sounds like a player fishing for a move to me.Weekend tomorrow and hopefully another defeat for Tottenham beckons. Everybody remember to stab your voodoo dolls!
