FIFA 07: Nery Castillo Not A Mexican!

Monday, 09 July 07, 04:56 PM

Nery Castillo is becoming more and more known throughout the world, due to his great performances in the Copa America. Nery was born in Mexico, in June 1984, but supposedly, both of his parents were Uruguayan. His club is Olympiacos, of Greece, and he is a regular starter, thanks to his playmaking abilities, his aggression, and his speed. His performances at the UEFA Champions League level, caught the attention of Juan Ramon Carrasco, then head coach of the Uruguayan national team, but Carrasco wasn't the only one to spot Castillo. The Mexican press were praising his performances and said that Castillo was eligible to play for Mexico, since he was born there. When he had to make a choice, Nery Castillo picked Mexico over Uruguay and, soon enough, became a regular starter on the national stage, as well. BUT, in FIFA 07, the widely-known football video game, Castillo is put under Uruguay. If you have the game, no matter for what game system, if you check "International Selections-Mexico", Nery will NOT be there. If you go to "International Selections-Uruguay", he WILL be there. The people at EA Sports will have to fix that, come FIFA 08. But, for now, FIFA 07 lovers will have to play with Nery Castillo, as a Uruguayan.

What do you make of that?

All I can add to this is that Castillo just recently accepted to play for the Mexican squad since for years he had been choosing among Uruguay & Mexico (and Greece for some time since they
offered him $$$ to obtain the Greek nationality). Nery had been called to play for Mexico since back in 2004; but LaVolpe requested him too many times without Castillo's show that he gave up on him
(suddenly, when Uruguay was officialy eliminated for WC 2006, Nery started raising his hand to defend Mexico but got no answer from LaVolpe). Hugo Sanchez called him 3 times but Nery would either not
travel or he would make the trip but not play due to (he said) injury. The Mexican press was all over him calling him awful names and that Mexico didn't need someone so "stuck-up" as him...now we all
praise him and we say "Damn, Hugo was right on not giving up on him". This may be EA's confusion...

Fifa 07 has a lot of 'glitches' in it. There are some players that dont exist in that game like Marco Materazzi of Inter and Robert Pires of Villareal. Things like that should be fixed in the future
I hope. As of Nery Castillo, he is an amazing player that can become the next Hugo Sanchez for Mexico

I don't think I care about this. It's a video game.

Is it only in the USA that people play the EA Sports crap? FIFA is a poor excuse for a football game.

I got all the football games, but I mostly play FIFA. I don't know why, so don't ask. Probably just because it's the series that comes out first. FIFA always comes out in October, followed by Winning
Eleven in December.

What if you already edited all the players they allow you to? You're only allowed to edit 40 players. What if you used that up?...THEN, YOU CAN'T CHANGE HIS NATIONALITY!!!! Jeez...people are
stupid...................

Riquelme10 - Nery Castillo was not born in uraguay as you stated. His parents were born there. Nery was born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
