FIFA Soccer 2008

Tuesday, 14 August 07, 02:33 PM · Comments(58)

FIFA 08 cover. All covers will feature Ronaldinho.

What does managers, trainers, support personnel, 30+ leagues and 15,000 players have in common?

They are all part of the 20% extra you get in this year’s FIFA Soccer 2008. Don’t worry EA Sports FIFA Soccer 2008 is the American title. Basically, everywhere else, it will still be FIFA Football 2008. We all know there can be only one football!

The Shot

The FIFA series is improving with every release and it is no different this year. In the previous version we’ve seen an improvement in ball movement and player animation. The focus in 08 is - the shot. The difference between success and failure of a shot will depend on air resistance, backspin, player skill and the force you apply to the ball. Now you can expect to see different shots from the player’s foot depending on the situation. If you are dribbling at full speed it will be tougher to score if you just stop, turn and shoot the ball, where as a player that has a wide open straight lane to the net, will find it easier. The player dribbling at full speed will have his shooting meter fill up faster, than the player moving slowly, but again it all depends on the player’s skills. In other words - tougher shots will fill up the meter faster.

In FIFA 08, the players faces, kits, and ball touch, will be more realistic, as seen in the picture.

Be a Pro

A new feature in the series, is the “Be a Pro” mode. Some people might already know it from the NFL-series (Superstar mode). You will play the position of any one player from striker to sweeper during the entire match. You are responsible for his assignments and roles, with helpful arrows on the pitch, that shows you, your area of responsibility and which members of the opposite team you’re assigned to mark. The camera will follow you on the pitch, with the Gears of War-inspired chase cam, when you break into full sprint with the ball. At halftime you get feedback on your progress and you’ll be ranked at the end of the match depending on how much you contributed. This is tied in to the Xbox360 achievement system.

The “Be a Pro” mode is only available offline, but in a few years, it is EA Sports’ goal of having 11 different people, from anywhere in the world, play 11 different people from another part of the world, online!!

What else is new?

The trick system is improved. FIFA 08 has borrowed a bit from NBA Street HomeCourt, but do not expect any un-realistic double backflips and a scissor kick. As previously mentioned there is a new camera angle, inspired by the Gears-of-War’s chase cam, every time you sprint. Running at top speed will also make you less agile and skillful. Of course, the player detail is improved, yet again. In FIFA 07, Wayne Rooney looked more like Shrek, than what he does in real life. In 08, Wayne Rooney looks like Wayne Rooney.

FIFA 2008 has improved the player's ball control, what tricks he is capable of doing, and the player's skill.

Also, there are supposed to be 30 leagues confirmed in the game. In FIFA 07, there was only 27. The FAI Premier League of Ireland, has already been established in FIFA 08. So, what are the other three? Rumour has it, that the Australian A-league and Czech Gambrinus League will be the other two new ones. This has sparked a lively discussion on many forums, since a lot of FIFA fans believe their local league belongs in the FIFA series. Especially, the South Americans. They really hoped the Argentinian league would be featured in FIFA 08. They argue that the English Football League One and Two should be removed and replaced by the Argentinian and the Chilean football leagues.

But, as always expect FIFA 2008 to be out before Christmas. It is scheduled to be released this fall for all platforms, Xbox360, Nintendo Wii and DS, Playstation 2 and 3, PSP and PC.

This is all fine and dandy, but will it (1) allow you to run to a pass, which you couldn't in FIFA 07, or (2) not let the AI have ball magnets like they do in FIFA 07, or (3) when you slightly change
directions near the penalty area with your analog stick your player doesn't turn on a dime right into a defender, or (4) Improve your squad's prestige rating in Manager Mode based on your performance
in the game. Because nothing says realistic quite like Mansfield Town being in the English Premier League with a roster full of Premier League-quality talents with a $4,000/game shirt sponsor.
Something tells me they forgot these insignificant features, but rather focused on the pile of awesomeness that is Be a Pro mode!

I dont know why every year they leave out the Argentinian league. It is the best league in the Americas yes even better than the Mexican and Brazilian League. Doesnt EA realize the majority of Latin
American players are coming out of the Argetinian league. Overall though it looks like another good year for the game.

released. PES is out in October2008, so you dont have to wait too long either.....Come to the dark side....LINK

As the FIFA 07 podcast stated, the Argentinian League does not have a collective rights setup, which means FIFA would have to negotiate with clubs individually. As a result, this is why EA FIFA games
have Boca Juniors and River Plate, but not the rest of the league. The same goes for the Greek league, which is why they only have AEK, Olympiakos, PAOK, and Panthanikos.

7oka...I didn't hear anything about the Egyptian League being put into the game, but it would be a great addition!
pete...I don't see why they wouldn't make a FIFA '08 for Gamecube.
amos...True. They should work on the images of the players getting cups and medals and all that. Hopefully it will be better in the '08 series. And I agree. They should put more of the African
Nations in the game. Angolia, Egypt, Ghana, etc. They should make more of the African and Asian nations.

don't know what retards like you see in that game, but it certainly makes the sport of football shameful. the only good thing in pes is the stepover. The replays are stupid, the graphics are so bad,
when you zoom in, that it makes me want to cry. The fifa series will ALWAYS be better than pes and all of you stupid jackasses have to learn that. Everyone here posted osmething good so why are you

Both games are EXCELLENT if you're a football/soccer/futbol/futebol fan. If you preffer one rather than the other it's more a matter of personal taste and there's no reason to argue over that.

Fifa 08 is the worst game ever made by fifa since 2000.
I will now explain why it does suck.
I've played and playd hoping I can find a strategy formation that would look like a real thing, I

even built my own, I've played football for real as a youngster.

There is no control over passing , if I press to pass in front with the normal pass button there is a good chance the
player

will pass left or right, also the long pass is not fixed, say with the same player I pass with the same power, the ball each time will have a diferent effect it will go too far or too
short of a

distance, so you can not become an artist at long passing, another point is that players will not pass the ball when I usualy press the button and this alot of the times, I expect a
minimal delay

this is just too much.

Part 2 movement.
Every time a player from the oposition will duel and will touch the ball your player will stop for 2 seconds.
This with your player can run to the ball if the pass is too short
is a lie, you can do this very few times , most of the times the player will get locked at the frustration of you presing left, right and seeing the player not moving at all, most of the players will
move most of the time like my grandma when the do move, just turning around in an open free area is an
acomplishment, the player each time the ball flys to him will make the player get confused
and it will take time to settle down, this is not realistic, this does not happen in an free open area, the player should do this easy, the chances are you were free for a pass with no one near you
and you end up lossing the ball because it takes a great amount of time just to settle the ball down.

This is the worst football simulation I have ever played.
There is no buildup play, the passing sucks, the movement sucks even more, the comentary is just idiotic , it will say the keeper punched

the ball out but the keeper didint even touch it,
everytime the ball jumps from a deflection it will jump at the computer, in a controled fashon, the game still favors 1 long pass
...then
run
then
shot , just like amerinan football except for the shot, idiotic ..pathetic ..EA don't even have respect for the game's rules or probaly they don't even know them, because
when
advantaged is
played by
the refere it's only until other player get's the ball, if the refere called advantage and then the other player takes the ball but makes a wrong pass then the
game go's
on because he
had advantage
but lost the ball you freakin morans. No free movement no free passing,.

Wow, there are some seriously pathetic kids in the USA if they feel it's cool to come on blogs and call people "faggots" and "retards" over a video game.

PES has been better, because for 10
years while FIFA & EA Sports were too busy spending time on bullshit marketing and trying to include as much jazz as possible, Konami actually developed an amazing game.

There's a reason why
most of the world plays PES, and people in the States play FIFA (apart form the fact that they are ignorant), probably something to do with why most of the world plays football, and the States play
soccer (and we all know what happens when the US leaves home to play with proper football countries).

I agree with manogil, that it's down to preference, but the quality of gameplay is so
different.

SM

SM Wrote: | 23.44EST | Nov 27, 2007

As for those people who think they're being clever by poking fun at Konami... what are you? Idiots? Konami has been making games since way back when (30 years before EA Sports was even started), and
is one of the outstanding games companies... they've define entire genres with some of their games.

And never laugh at a Japanese video game company, because they taught the Americans everything
they know.

As for why PES/WE doesn't have the real teams? It's simple, they don't have the budget that EA Sports have to go and get official rights for all the teams. The games can be patched
easily enough, but is it really that big of a deal to use a team called North London FC instead of Arsenal?

Even worst, EA has the chash to build the most complete football simulation but in stead they come out with this pice of junk.
This pice of crap has no build up play, you can't do passing
combinations, the game is static, when you do manage to get to 20 meters from the goal no one is making any moves, players just sit there, no schematics can be implemented, all you can do is run with
the ball to the corner of the field, if you try to make a small pass in this situation to a free player, once the player gets the ball he will trip on it, or he will strugle to contol it and lose it.

If a defender trys to get the ball, your player will just stop and get stuck for a few seconds, fifa has not implemented a new AI , fifa has just dumbed down the players. in stead of spending
money to come up with a good strategy game, fifa spent the money on crapy tricks, fifa 08 is just a bag copy of 07
