Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly - Here is how it works... (+ Zlatan's video + Neymar's video - must watch!)

Football Fans and Football Stars Wannabes,

You probably watched Cristiano Ronaldo's goal against Porto thousands of times on TV, on YouTube, everywhere. And you also probably know that he (and many other Nike sponsored players, such as Ibrahimovic and Pato) are now wearing the newest Nike Vapor boots that uses a technology called Flywire. But What the hell is this Flywire technology? What does it do? Well, with little research I was able to find out the answer but as many of don't have time to go round interpreting scientific terms and big word I'll simplify it here:

The concept of the Flywire technology was created six years ago when one of Nike's shoe guru showed up with one of those molds that look like a foot and where they sew the shoe around with wires attached in the strategic points of support of the foot. That was pretty much the idea: a shoe that would be ultra thin and ultra light but giving the athlete the necessary support and still maintaining the durability.

From that initial concept the ~~shoe maker~~, I mean, shoe engineer/scientist, went to the lab and developed what we can see on these top footballers feet now.

What Nike did was to reprogram the stitching machines so they could "wire" the shoes in the way he had designed the technology. "Stitching straight across the upper (rather than using a large jump stitch) would have made something no more effective than decoration on the side of the shoe. Creating a long stitch means the structure comes entirely from the thread. With its radical reduction of weight, Flywire also spells the end of using layers of material to create support, all of which adds weight and decreases flexibility." (from www.nikebiz.com)

The Flywire technonolgy became first available for running shoes, track & field spikes and basketball shoes. Now it's available for football in the new Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly. Arsenal's Green Kit? Uh-oh I think I'm having a flashback!

There's a rumour going around saying that Arsenal will resurrect the green away kit. If that's true it would be a bad PR for the Gunners. Seriously. Just look at this top.

In the 1982/1983 season Arsenal wore a horrible green change kit and the Gunners finished in 10th place in the old Football League First Division (yes, there was something else before the Premier League was created). So there's not even a tradition excuse for bringing back the awkward combination of navy blue and green as the away kit for the club.

I really hope this is just a rumour. I'm not an Arsenal fan and I could care less about what happens at the Emirates but it would be a little weird to see Fabregas, Eduardo and Van Persie posing for a release photo like these blokes from the 82/83.

CHRISTMAS WISH LIST OF A FOOTBALL FAN - LEAVE YOURS TOO

Winter is near. That means that we will have a break from most of the football leagues around the globe. That means no more live football and 500 re-runs of Premier League matches on TV. Some Serie A and La Liga too. But it's holiday season.

Thanksgiving for the USA and for the rest of us there's Santa Claus bringing us some cool gifts. My list to the good old man is pretty simple :

This is just to entertain you lads a little bit and to be honest, to attract traffic to my blog.

I will post once a week during the next 6 weeks football shirts of the main clubs of the 5 main Leagues in the world and 1 last category called "Rest of the World" and you will choose your favourites. Time for a new blog. Time to go deeper in evaluating some football boots (or soccer cleats as they sometimes unfortunately call them here in Toronto). Let's start with an Italian tradition called DIADORA.

But you lads know me. I need to test the products myself before coming here to give my approval. And so I got the top of line of their boots: the Diadora Maximus II RTX 14.

The first thing that caught my eyes was the slick classic look. I love boots that maintain the traditional appearance. I got a pair of the white ones and when I put them on I felt how soft and how light they are. It's like wearing a real comfortable pair of casual shoes. Made in Italy of course.

So this weekend I took my new Diadora to a real "test-drive". When I got to the pitch my teammates also admired the fine look of the boots and after scoring a beautiful goal from outside the box (of course with the help of the goalkeeper of our 40+ league the job is easier) I can assure you these boots are top class.

So here are my ratings for the Diadora Maximus II

STYLE -> 10 (Classic, beautiful. I prefer the white with black details)

COMFORT -> 9 (They wrapped my feet perfect. And even for blokes that have wide feet like mine they feel tight without squeezing or hurting the feet. I'm just not a big fan of the blade shaped studs)

PERFORMANCE -> 10 (it's ultra light so it helps you run faster. The laces are positioned a little to the side which gives you a better ball touch. And I scored a goal on my first day wearing them. Perfect. hahaha)

PRICE -> 9.5 (Original price is US$175 MSRP or €107 + VAT. Of course, now that I don't have my own shop anymore, I had to ask for a discount and I got a good one. But it's still the best price for a pair of top of line boots)

So there it is. If you want to get away from the over colorful, high-priced and many times overrated big three and still have the most advanced technology in football boots I totally recommend you to consider the Diadora collection.
