Antonio Puerta - Rest in Peace

Tuesday, 28 August 07, 04:10 PM

Antonio Puerta

Antonio Puerta, the tall, elegant left-sided midfielder for Sevilla and Spain passed away today. He had been in hospital in critical condition for the past 3 days after collapsing during Sevilla's game over the weekend against Getafe. He had had multiple cardiac arrests, and there was brain damage that had arisen from those that made the situation very, very complicated. He was just 22 years old, and had a baby on the way as well. Clubs like Arsenal, Manchester United and Real Madrid had been watching him for a while now, and he was one that was surely destined for the top.

It's a sad day when such a promising, young footballer passes on, and we would like to wish his family all the best.

This is the saddest and darkest day, in world football. This man did NOT deserve to die, but we are not in control of that. I don't care if your team is Arsenal, Betis, Madrid, or Barcelona, we
should all come together for this tragedy. When I saw the Sevilla/Getafe game, I saw Antonio had the heart attack and then he walked off on his power. The reports were, that he had another stroke or
heart attack in the lockers and that proved to be true. But still, I NEVER could've imagined this good man, Antonio Puerta, dying. May God rest his body and his soul. And let the Puerta family, with
my deepest, deepest, deepest condolences, get through this dark moment. REST IN PEACE......ANTONIO JOSE PUERTA PEREZ. You will never be forgotten.

I think that is going way too over-the-top. It's unfortunate that he died, but just because he's a famous footballer, it doesn't mean that it should be the "saddest and darkest day in world
football". When you say these things, think about the 96 fans who died at Hillsborough, or the 50 Iraqis who were bombed while celebrating, the fans killed in the stampede in Africa, the Superga and
Munich air disasters of Torino and Man United. Even individuals - Marc-Vivien Foe died, Miklos Feher collapsed and died at only age 24 while playing for Benfica, and there was a very young Romanian
player who collapsed and died in training. I hope there is peace for Puerta and his family, but we shouldn't lose perspective.

Yeah, SM, you are right. I should remeber all of that and I do. I just can't believe he has passed, after he was looking like he'd be back in a month or 2.. I'm so shocked that it has moved me. Let
us all pray for ALL who lose their lives. The Romanian you speak of, is Catalin Hildan. He collapsed, while playing a game for his club, Dinamo Bucharesti. Still, I say.......R.I.P.

I just heard the news on TV - Oh God, may He have one of the best soccer players in His hands. I saw the game when he collapsed and got the convulsion. I didn't think it would be that serious but I
underestimated it. Descanse en Paz - Antonio Puerta

This is a very sad day. He was a great player and recently becoming well known internationally. So sad to see him leave us so young. The entire soccer community should come together and pay their
respect for Antonio. Thoughts and prayers for his family and friends.

Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Dysplasia. Also known as....A.R.V.D. Antonio was born with it. It is a hereditary disease, that affects your organs (most notably, your heart) and it got to him, when
he was playing in the Sevilla/Getafe game. That damn disease then attacked him a couple of more times, later that day, which then caused him to pass on. The same thing happened to Marc Vivien-Foe,
Miklos Feher, and Paulo Sergio de Oliviera Silva (aka Serginho who played for Sao Caetano). A similar fate, happened to the Romanian, Catalin Hildan, but he never made it to the hospital, as he died
right there, on the pitch. Sad, sad, sad.....

I was in shock after hearing about his passing. I was watching the match on the tele when he initially collapsed. Sad indeed, my thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

A african footballer died in the israeli league too. Since he is frankly a nobody in the footballing world, no one really knows about it. its sad on both parts. My tio eddi died playing football in
2000, the way i look at it is... these men died doing something they loved! god have mercy.
