Surprise Team/Players For The Copa America?

Monday, 28 May 07, 02:23 PM · Comments(26)

Since Kaka, Ronaldinho and Robinho/Ronaldo (can't remember which one) aren't going to be at this year's Copa America, a bit of the gloss will be taken off the competition, but it also leaves room for other teams and players to impress.

So I was wondering what people's thougts were on which teams and players would impress at this year's Copa?

Wouldn't bet against Argentina winning. Last time around they outplayed Brazil in the final, but still lost.

Dani Alves will impress for Brasil.

Mario Gomez will impress for Argentina.

Diego Forlan for Uruguay.

Pavel Pardo for Mexico.

I have to admit that I don't know a huge amount about Copa America. Is Lucas likely to play for Brazil or is he still with the underage team?

It's a tricky one, because there's also the Pan-American games in Brazil this summer, and Brazil are trying to put together a decent squad for that as well since they are playing at home and want to win.

Alex is one of the best defenders in Europe. He is recovered from his injury and sharp now, so he will impress.

(I don't think Alfonso Alves will impress. You should use him the right way, as the end of every attack. Don't think Brazil will play like that)

No worries for Brasil they have at least 4 quality squads IMO. They can play the home boys from the league at the Pan American games. Along with youngsters.

I forgot about Alex, but he should be key at the Copa.

I agree with medilliae there are at least four "championlike" squads for Brazil. The problem is the attitude to the Copa America. Brazil frankly underestimate this tournament. Involving Gaucho and Kaka will increase interest in Copa America, which I consider on of the most exciting tournament after WC. And lets dont forget about Argentina bringing the strongest side of them. Although, Brazil won last Copa without so-called key players, I dont think they will succes this time. History doesnt repeat so often, does it?

By the way SM, Dunga droped out Ronaldo from squad. I dont have any info about Robinho not having involved in squad.

Sorry, Lucio was the one I was thinking of, not the R/R. Robinho is in the squad and will be one of the main attackers.

I think Elano will be allowed to showcase his skills on a larger stage for Brazil. as for Forlan, he will be great but that won't be a surprise, I think that Bueno may be given the chance to show his stuff as far as Uruguay are concerned either him or Vargas.

robinho can be the man. but i agree that brazil has more than one squad and perhaps dunga won't have problems about copa america.

i think the only problem brazil can have at the next competitions/frindly games/etc can be caused by its own coach. i dont think he is the one we expect to the next world cup, anyway.

Look for Juan Carlos Arce to impress! The speedy Bolivian forward who took Carlos Tevez's place at Corinthians is poised to impress!

Also look for defensive midfielder Ronald Nacho Garcia. This talented Bolivian midfielder with great vision plays for Greek team Aris, and is on the verge of a multi-million Euro transfer to German powerhouse Schalke 04!

Bolivian creative/attacking midfielder Joselito Vaca is set to shine! Watch his magical passes & powerful shots!

Bolivian goalkeeper Hugo Suarez is also a sure bet to impress. He's probably going to be picked up by a foreign team after this tournament. He's awesome!

Lastly, Bolivian defender Ronald Raldes has done nothing but play world class football for his Argentine team Rosario Central for the past 3 years. It'll be tough for opposing forwards to get by him.

As you might have guessed, I'm Bolivian. VIVA BOLIVIA CARAJO!!

I think that Estoyanoff will surprise for Uruguay. the non-mexicans will surprise for mexico (ie, Guille Franco andNery Castillo). Elano for Brasil has played very well.
most of all I think the Venenzuelan squad will surprise the continent and prove they are no longer a push over team.

Brazil I though looked off-key tonight, although were unlucky to get Gilberto's header ruled offside. There were moment of brilliance between kaka and ronnie, but no real urgency - understandably - vagner love looked to be struggling in holding up the ball, although to be fair England, did not allow them much space. Was surprised not to see Elano play. Becks did what he does best, apart from that don't really feel like over-analyze England, because, its just plain BORING !

Does anyone think that Anderson (Man Utd) will play regularly for Brazil in the Copa America?

I have only seen clips of him, any opinions from whoever has seen more of the lad?

Juan Carlos Arce and Robinho will be the nicest of the Copa America! I think they can destroy defenses, changes match and with them in field none match is boring. In my opinion one of them will be the name of this competiton. But it's a pity Ronaldo don't be calleed by Dunga for Copa America, he have been playing a wonderfull soccer.

And Brazil has all of chances to be Champion. Argentina is a powerfull team, always strong but i don't see many shine in their team. It will be like the last one cup, i bet!

The Us just won the Gold Cup (again). Despite their poor showing in the world cup (FYI there were the only team to score against Italy) They might do real well on SA soil. Having the US in Copa America excites US Soccer fans (all 5 of us) and for the US to be a true superpower in futbol' a good showing here is a must

Yeah the US won but they certainly did not look impressive past the group stages. The last two games they beat Canada and Mexico 2-1 but in each game there seemed to be close calls (Canadian goal called offsides and Mexican attacker brought down in the box, both in the closing minutes) that could have easily led to a tie after regulation.

I (one of the other five US soccer fans) will be looking forward to the upcoming tourney, but I don't have much hope for the US going far.

If the US does not go far its no big suprise, we are the laughing stock of the world when it comes to futbol'. I have already heard that the goldcup victory was a fluke and the US can't beat anyone on foreign soil. If (and its a big IF) they do make it to the semi's or the finals.....will the US have the respect its looking for as far as world competion goes. NO but it will be a start. So lets hope for the best US Soccer fan!
