The Battle for 4th (Genoa, Fiorentina, and AS Roma)

Friday, 06 February 09, 12:05 PM

Genoa currently sit in 4th on the Serie A table a mere 3 points behind Juventus, just past the half way mark of the season. They have been playing some beautiful football, in fact, if
you haven't seen them play so far this season; make it point to see them.

Can, the oldest club in Italy, maintain their current form and catapult themselves into European football and reap the massive financial boost it would inject into the club?

Fiorentina and AS Roma are breathing down the il grifone collective necks sitting at 5th and 6th place with 38 and 37 points, just 2 + 3 points back from GFC. Genoa has had the hot hand this season and has pleasantly surprised Serie A, but is that enough to carry them thru to the remainder of the season?

AS ROMA and Fiorentina are clearly deeper clubs, but can they rely on their historical performances in Serie A to lift them to top 4? Genoa are not going to go down without a
fight.

AS Roma need their deadly club icon, Totti, to heal and lead the Roman side back into Europe, but the Giallorossi have been inconsistent with their quality of play, but have
been pouring it as of late; I believe the spark came with the CL matches vs. Chelsea. AS Roma host Genoa this weekend, setting up what should be a fantastic fixture.

Fiorentina are hosting this weekend a limping Lazio side. Mutu and Gilardino are solid and should do well vs. the Biancocelesti.

This season of Serie A has been one of the tightest and most exciting in recent years. With 2nd place thru 6th separated by a mere 6 points , every point is going to be huge in the
final stretch.

Whoever said, "Serie A is boring", OBVIOUSLY hasn't been watching this season!
