Boca Juniors to play friendly in Mexico

Monday, 14 July 08, 08:29 PM

According to various Mexican wire stories, Boca Juniors will play a friendly against Dorados de Sinaloa of the Mexican Primera "A" (promotional division) on July 26 at the Estadio Carlos González y González in Culiacán.

Dorados public relations chief Enrique Santoyo confirmed that the contract was signed between the CSD Sinaloa president Juan Antonio Núñez and representatives of the "Xeneizes".

This match should benefit the Copa Libertadores semifinalist since it will show up with most of its starters, including Martín Palermo and Sebastián Battaglia. But midfielder Juan Román Riquelme will not travel to Mexico because he is training with the Argentinean national team that will take part in the Olympic Games in Beijing that will start next month.

Meanwhile the Sinaloans aren't sacrificing much since their first league match of the Primera "A" Apertura season was moved up to the 23rd of this month. That match will be against Académicos in Guadalajara. This type of cooperation sometimes isn't seen when Mexican teams are involved in competitions such as the Copa Libertadores, the Copa Sudamericana and the Champions League. But, for a friendly?

To be honest, Boca surprised me that it will play a friendly against a side from Mexico's second level. Perhaps it's difficult now to find opponents for friendlies?

Regarding television rights for this match, something tells me that Fox Sports will air it in the United States and in Latin America.
