Various European squads interested in Mexican keeper

Thursday, 31 July 08, 02:05 PM

Just a few days ago the rumors surfaced again regarding the possible transfer of Club América's starting goalkeeper to a European club team.

Guillermo Ochoa already confirmed the fact teams from the "Old World" have shown interest in him in an interview with ESPN Radio Fórmula, but did not specifics on the possible suitors.

It had been heard that Everton and the Mexican keeper had been linked. However, the head coach of the EPL side knew nothing of Ochoa and said he knew nothing of him.

Another team mentioned was Atlético de Madrid. It's not the first time that a move to the "Colchoneros" had been brought up. Nevertheless, the chances of him playing for Javier Aguirre's team are slim since all the spots for non-European players are taken.

Finally, Galatasaray is one of the other teams that supposedly had asked about "Memo". From what I know the Turkish team is looking for a backup goalkeeper. What is already known is that they did not offer to buy his rights, but rather wanted for a one-year loan. This did not please the Aguilas' management since the 700 million euro offering is not even close to what he is worth.

It's obvious that Ochoa is worth at least a couple of million euros and understand why the Aguilas are waiting for a "fair" offer. I imagine that they will wait until the end of the Mexican Apertura season with hopes of an increase of Memo's value of his rights.

I believe that Ochoa should stay because the Apertura is already underway and it would be strange to see him leave Mexico in the middle of the season. By the way, he had a stellar performance against Santos Laguna last Sunday! With more games like that it's a sure thing that his value will go up without a doubt.

Club América after Marcinho

Thursday, 19 June 08, 06:30 PM

A day after they swiped Argentine striker Alfredo Moreno from one of their "little brothers" San Luis, América are now analyzing the possibility of signing Flamengo attacking midfielder Marcinho. By the way, the Aguilas had a good look at him when the Aguilas played Flamengo during the quarterfinal stage of the Copa Libertadores not too long ago.

Adding the Brazilian wouldn't hurt the team that finished dead last in the recently completed Mexican Clausura season, but my question is this...What would happen to the Paraguayan international striker Salvador Cabañas?

By the way, Cabañas, also known as "Gordito" because of his portly appearance, is rumored to be going to Manchester United. Him and starting goalkeeeper Guillermo "Memo" Ochoa would be the only two that would command respectable transfer fees from European teams.

Going to back to Marcinho...He would definitely strengthen a side that had absolutely no punch in the attack. It had one of the lowest scoring teams in the Clausura! The attacking midfielder had 15 goals in 33 matches this year. And there's another upside to Marcinho: he'll be turning only 24 years of age on July 20.
