57,000 Red Flags and One Big White One

Wednesday, 06 May 09, 08:15 AM

I woke up this morning hoping it had all been a horrible nightmare, sadly it actually happened. We were well beaten by a better team over two legs and that is fair enough. What I am finding hard to digest is the fact that we just gave up and showed no fight. Arsene Wenger did not convey any sort of body language to spur his team on after we went behind. No pacing around in his technical area, no shouting, nothing !!! The players on the pitch looked dead and buried and if you feel like that then dead and buried you will be. I am not going to single out any players as that would be unfair. One of my friends on Twitter used a great analogy 'We look like a poker player who has lost 90% of his chips in the first few hands and is scared to go all in' We were scared to go 'all in' and from my poker playing experience, your chips just slowly whittle away to nothing. I also know that you CAN win from that position but you HAVE to be aggressive. We were not aggressive and played right into their hands like innocent lambs. I am not saying that we would have won had we been more aggressive, but I would have felt better watching had we played in that manner instead of throwing in the towel. We need a leader and much as I love Cesc, he is not a leader. I just wanted to get that off my chest. I love Arsenal but we will win no more silverware with the attitude shown by some last night. I feel sad and deflated and can't wait until this season is over.

I Agree with Arsene and Fergie

Monday, 20 April 09, 09:51 AM

I am not a blogger as I have neither the time or inclination to get involved in having to make regular updates etc. The events of the weekend and the criticism of Arsene Wenger on various blogs has irritated me almost as much as the Wembley surface, and I feel that I want to put my thoughts down on the matter. Late on Saturday afternoon I was very excited about the prospect of settling down and watching Arsenal run out at the new Wembley for the first time. It was a lovely sunny afternoon, we have been in good form, and the defensive injuries were really the only small puffy cloud in the clear blue sky. Kick off was getting close and a 'ping' on the Tweetdeck revealed a tweet that said 'Arshavin on bench' Shit!! I thought 'surely not?'. I proceeded to Sky score centre to have my fear confirmed. 'No Nasri ? No Song?... what the fuck is Wenger doing?' After watching the game I much closer to understanding his selection and indeed Alex Ferguson's too. The playing surface was absolutely disgraceful, and to play a semi final of a major trophy on it is very hard to understand. It is in no way a stage for talents like Arshavin, Nasri, Ronaldo to display their sublime talents on and risk missing MUCH bigger games that are imminent. I know that it is the same for both sides but both games could have gone either way regardless of team selection and I truly believe that Wenger's selection was not the main reason we lost. The long ball to Drogba is always a threat on any surface and we lost to it again. Sylvestre was never going to be a match for him and we were punished as we have been by him in the past. There were times on Saturday that the ball looked as if it was running over rumble strips at the edge of a motorway. Theo was very good but he would have been even better had the ball been able to keep up with his blistering pace. I wonder if Guardiola would have risked Messi and Henry on such a surface?.I don't know enough about Hiddink to comment on his selection. I do doubt that has sidekick Uncle Fester would be able to think as deeply about things as Ferguson or Wenger though. Arsene and Fergie took a 'punt' and it didn't work out. I am 100% sure that there will be no more of these in the run in from either manager. Man United have been struggling of late and Ferguson knows he is going to really need all his big players fit for the run in. I honestly think that Wenger wants to run United as close as he possibly can and still believes we can even nick it if we win all remaining games. As long as the math tells him he can do it he will not concede it. Arsenal will have a huge say in it as we play all three. We are also three games from winning CL. Anyway, that's my take on weekend selections and thanks if anybody reads this. Here's to stuffing Liverpool !!!!!!!!!!!!! UNFORTUNATELY I AM UNABLE TO SPLIT THIS INTO PARAGRAPHS FOR SOME REASON ???
