Gooners have waited patiently albeit with blind trust over the past 3 or 4 years for trophy. Now it is looking more and more like that is not going to happen under this current policy.
Coincidentally, this period falls within the time David Dein left us. I know most Gooners would agree that DD’s takeover activities were unpleasant. I am with you on this front butI think you do not throw away the baby with water just because it’s dirty. Could the board have not found another way of dealing with this issue? That will be topic for another day and another blog. One thing we can all allude to is the fact that since DD’s departure, Wenger has no other ear in terms of football within the board meaning he has to shoulder most of the admin stuff coupled with the ever demanding tactical issues on the field of play.
One wonders if the club has anyone of repute within its rank who can question Wenger’s acquisition or lack of it.This has left us with a Manager whose focus is been shifted from left to right thereby reducing his overall preparation for a match. I need not remind you that even the players have their own demands ranging from contract negotiation to injuries, matches, tapping etc etc.A team like Arsenal who lead the table for most part of last season should be growing in strength but in our case we are downwards spiral. Whilst other teams are continuing to strengthen their squad we are fighting tooth and nail to keep our priceless players. We starved ourselves of bringing replacement or competition for places to please most of our players but most often than not they leave us as soon as another suitor comes along waving the pound sign.Should we continue this trend that has not worked for decades? My answer is an emphatic NO!Mr. Wenger should stop protecting these players. After all, the best will always come through, example is Cesc.
Fans, journalists and pundits alike said it last season that we need to beef our squad to land a trophy. Our failure to respond saw us threw away our lead and hence the title. It’s almost like a gift to our rivals. Now we are trending AjaxFC way who is once a dominant force in continental football.
Our problem now is this current squad will not and cannot qualify for champion’s league spot. I know it sounds unthinkable for some blind fans but it is the reality of the situation. Otherwise, how could we be losing to Hull and Stoke? This squad lacked strength in depth. The coaching pattern also needs to be changed. Players like Adebayor that turns up in one match and goes hiding in the next should made a scape goat so that up coming players like Song will know he has to turn up for a match every time.Mr. Wenger has started by axing Gallas as skipper. He should follow it through with a different attitude to player selection and substitution. This is my own opinion...
