EPL Wars 2009: A New Hope

Thursday, 22 May 08, 04:35 AM

OK. It finally ends - The pain of seeing Arsenal not win any trophy this season. But, there's always a next season unless it's Armegeddon. We'll be back for the next season. We do have a very good chance if Rio Ferdinand does less goal keeping ( as he did against wigan on the final day of EPL ), Gallas does less crying on the ground and one Mr. Tomáš Toorisky ( translated: Rosický ) stays fit which is as feasible as Real Madrid offering nothing less than £50m for Eboue along with Robinho and funding us to buy Kaka ( transfer + wages )

So, here we are. The season is over. Euro 2008 and one hell of a transfer window remain for this summer. Samir Nasri is for some reason not putting the pen on the paper. He probably wants to stick his dick in the lockers of Lyon's changing room like Modric did in Zagreb last summer and will do nothing but that with the Scum next season. Nasri says he's keeping his options open. I think we should sign him soon or hope that he doesn't perform well until Euro is over.

Elsewhere: if you want to get a post-match ( UCL Final ) reaction from the stadium listen to the latest 5 live football daily BBC podcast. It's a nice podcast. A lot from the stadium - interviews with the players, Avram , Sir Alex - Oh! wait ... what !? Yes, you heard it right. Wow! Sir Alex Fungusface is talking to the BBC again. OK! atleast one of these happened:

1. Sir Alex changed his mind and decided to talk to the BBC again: In that case I don't know if I'll be happy to see that portuguese arse Carlos Queiroz never again on MoTD or be sad to hear the ridiculous Scottish accent. These people need to learn how to speak proper English from either Rafa/Wenger/The Special One(!)

2. Emotion Overshadowed Anger: It could happen. No big deal. Champions league is not a trophy you win everyday. So, he might not be knowing what he was doing. Did anyone check if he had his pants on him ?

3. BBC Trick: The reporters might have gone to him with a Skysports/ITV mike in their hands or they might have borrowed that bit of interview from Sky/ITV.

Onemore thing - Say sorry to terry ... Hilarious

Finally, I don't have anymore words after looking at this link.

The season in five words

Tuesday, 13 May 08, 05:32 AM

The Guardian has a neat summary of every EPL club this season in the form of a "Report Card". It's all nicely written there. Irritatingly, you need to go to the pages dedicated for the clubs and click on the "Report card" link. So, I thought it would be nice to put it up here.
There are various categories in the report card like On-pitch moment of the season, Off-pitch moment of the season, Greatest goal, Most embarrassing moment, The season in five words etc.
Click through the links for the full report cards while you enjoy "The season in five words"
Arsenal: Scintillating until squad depth exposed
Aston Villa: Good but can get better
Birmingham City: Has anyone seen Carson Yeung? [ Did anyone get it ? ]
Blackburn: Hughes continues to make strides
Bolton: Ugly, sterile, predictable, draining, relief
Chelsea: So near yet so far
Derby: Worst ever Premier League team
Everton: Further progress. Huge summer awaits
Fulham: Desperate. Frightening. Roy Hodgson. Exhilarating
Liverpool: Thank heavens for European football
Manchester City: Unique, Sven, bittersweet, Thailand, political [ bullocks! I'll write a better one: Great start but bitter finish ]
Manchester United: Glory, goals, Munich, harmony, Ronaldo
Middlesbrough: Contradictory, erratic, frustrating, enthralling, purist
Newcastle: Depressing, baffling, bizarre, soapy, improving
Portsmouth: The resurgence under Redknapp continues
Reading: Second-season syndrome strikes again
Sunderland: Tense, atmospheric, puzzling, exciting, satisfactory
Tottenham: Trophy soothes sense of underachievement
West Ham: Win or lose, they're 10th
Wigan: An awful start, excellent finish

An improved EPL

Wednesday, 07 May 08, 11:45 AM

Just once in the last 5 years has any club reached a Champions league spot apart from the so called big four. Just once in the last 5 years was the title not won until May. With voices raising about the premiership getting boring but great ( with a Russian, French, Spanish and wannabe Portuguese teams dominating the league) I would like to see a few managerial changes happen so that the next season would be exciting.

We already saw in the beginning of the season what Sven did to City. Ramos has established himself by winning the Carling Cup. It is tempting for Marcello Lippi to give it a try in the UK ( esp. England ) after seeing his compatriots Don Fabio and Giovanni Trapattoni move away from Italy to England and Ireland respectively. He was also at The Bridge on May 1st. Telegraph reports that Scolari is being offered 3.2 GBP to replace Sven ( how sad ). Mourinho has previously stated that he would love to be back in English club football. Moyes has been doing well at Everton and O'Neil is trying to build a squad that would put in a formidable challenge. His words:

“Liverpool haven’t made a straight cash offer. They’ve made an offer involving a mish-mash of nameless player exchanges. I’m particularly disappointed to hear that business is being conducted in public. We’re trying to build a side here and we’re not a feeder club.”
With the likes of Mourinho, Lippi, Scolari ( though he hasn't managed a single club in Europe ) , Sven, Ramos and if Keegan could repeat his 90's stint with The Magpies along with Moyes and O'Neil doing a better job we could alltogether see a better premier league. Though the league might be interesting with the aforementioned hypothetical situation, the irony is that the english media will still be moaning about lack of english talent. Not only about the players but also about the managers. If you observe, Keegan is the only english manager in the list.

But, it's just not possible to fit in all these people in a single league. All we can do is hope that the current big four will be big 6 next season with Ramos' scum entering the scene along with City/Everton. Portsmouth and Villa have been doing well too. Unfortunately they have been there for a long time and I can't see them improving unless they invest a little more than they usually do especially in players with good technical ability.

Well, just for fun , considering the hypothetical situation in which Lippi, Scolari, Sven are all eager to manage in the premier league along with Ramos and the managers of the current big four, Where would you appoint them ?
