Personally I'm not gonna hold it agianst Keano, he's given us so many years of quality football I can't just decide to hate the little man because he wants to play in the Champions League. i agree m8, i think levys a great chairman, the way jol was treated was a bit shit but in the end it was the right decision. ramos is a great manager and tactician and jol just went a bit mental and his substitutions were awful. ramos did well to rescue our season. i dnt want 2 turn into a selling club like ars*nal but if we can get nearly 50 mil and get in replacements that want to play in the shirt then y not. im a huge fan of keane but berb has never been 100% commited and i think levy has done the right thing and he deserves praise for what he's done for the club and where hes got us

I agree harry mate. What can anyone do if the foot stamper and the shoulder sgrugger start disrupting team spirit. Get as much money as possible (I understand liverpool are still sending anyone involved with the club out begging and drawing extra beneifits cheques to raise a respectable sum) and bring in replacements.

We still have a team that creates a hatful of chances, and there is no shortage of finishers out there.

Totally agree with the Levy comments. Mostly agree with Berbs and partially about Keane: The club statement is clear: THEY-ARE-OFF.

Levy knows next to nothing will happen with the League taking action against Liverpool & Man Utd, but is purely using the furore to get the extra 2 million on each sale price. He is a top negotiator.

Robbie Keane probably would have stayed with us "for the rest of his career" but his head has been turned by immediate Champions League football which ties into his age, money, some more money and his apparent historical love of Liverpool.

The timing sucks and is potentially damaging given Berbs imminent departure too but I for one am not going to forget Keane's years of service, abysmal cartwheel,sometimes sublime goals and assists, runs into cul de sacs and 100% effort. Bent will step up to the plate and replace at least one on the departing two (both if they play him as lone striker), at least he is a boyhood Spurs fan as well so should have some loyalty when Gio and Modric give him the service he needs to be the to be the top prem scorer next season.
I am very disappointed in Keane and if he feels like this he can fuck off and sit on the bench at pool, but I feel that you don't become a crap striker overnight and last season we just didn't have the players to play to DB's strengths (running on the through balls and crosses) not I think we have so if he can top the English scorers charts in the prem in a crap side I believe he can be top overall. The 50/1 at paddy power looks tempting on this.

If you didn't know that the Berbatov transfer was coming then you've been in denial. The Keane deal shocked me at first, but thinking about it then it doesn't surprise. I think that Ramos wants to pack a fluid midfield and play one fast, direct striker upfront - and Robbie K isn't exactly fast or direct. So we take the cash for RK. Bent might be given a chance to be that fast direct striker, or we get in a Huntelaar or Pavlyuochenko to be that focus. Either way I expect to see 2 or 3 more signings (Capel, a striker and a DM) before the start of the season. This is the point that this starts to be a side molded in Ramos' image.

Absolutley agree with worthingyid. The fact is that the tactic of some of the teams who have been in the CL places recently is to deliberately destabilise any club who looks like they may be a challenger - this is why its not not just Spurs, but Aston Villa too who are victims over Gareth Barry. The decision about who will fimish at the top is no longer made on the pitch. There has always been buying and selling between clubs and fair enough, but it must be willing seller and willing buyer.
If Spurs had refused to sell Micheal Carrick 2 years ago, they would not now be in this position. Everyone said £18 million was more that he was worth - but they were wrong, because it positioned Spurs as a selling club and Spurs have not moved forward since then. That has cost hugely more than £18 million.
What I hope Levy has the strength to do now is to refuse to sell either player unless we get the players we want in exchange - Dirk Kuyt anyone? - whatever money he might get will be more than lost elsewhere. If they don't accept it, they must play in the reserves. If anyone thinks this would be foolish, then look forward to losing Modric soon if he is any good, and many years of more mid table finishes.

Fairplay to Levy, fairness where fairness is due. It was about time someone stood up to those mugs MU & LFC. He went too far stating that the players had expressed to wanting to leave. Strategically this was dubious. It effectively prevents the players from backtracking and agreeing to stay. Would anyone want to see Keane in a Spurs shirt next year? Not now.

Will this raise the players prices? Not sure. If I were Liverpool or United, I'd be confident that the players were set to arrive, and not offer a penny more. Are Barcelona less likely to put in a competing bid now that "It's a done deal, Berbatov has his heart set on Man U", Absolutely.

Are Liverpool and United going to be punished by the Premier League? Probably not. Maybe that's what Levy is hoping for - to paint the most dastardly picture of Liverpool and Man U so that they get points deductions, and then sneak in to the Champions league? Maybe the board wants another backhand payment as with the Arnesen affair, if they agree to drop the charges?

I am a long time Levy supporter. The only thing I have ever disliked about his conduct is the manner in which he sacked BMJ. The man has continually put his money where his mouth hasn't been since his arrival all those years ago (back when we were all still praying Sol would stay). Just think how the club has moved on since then.

On top of this, he has made the club more profitable, capable of attracting great names, and achieved higher placed finishes in the league than have ever occurred in my living memory (I'm 24). Even if he were to sell the club, as has been widely anticipated, he would leave her in a far better position than she was in when he stepped in. Tickets are priced correctly taking into account the simple economics of the situation. He would be stupid to charge less and, what's more, cheap tickets would disadvantage the club when it came to improving playing staff, coaching staff and performances on the pitch.

Let's now focus on bringing just 1 top-class replacement up front(Santos can cover there too), along with the defensive midfielder we all know we need, and trust in more loyal players, such as Bent and Pekhart, to give their best for us.

I have read all of the comments with a near tear to my eye. I find it rele sad that we hav been put in2 this situation by other clubs and it has ruined our pre season preparations. However Ramos is a smart man and will hav his reasons for lettin all this happen. He can now build a team entirely of his own makin and create a TEAM that works to bring success. these 2 players hav been huge for us over the past 2 season as Jol brought the best out of individuals however Ramos wants to build a team and these 2 clearly r not team players and can there4 leave. I think if Ramos rele thought that we would need a DM then we would hav 1 by now. Possibly y we havent been linked with 1. We hav been linked with strikers continuously so my thinkin is that behind the scenes they knew that this was goin 2 happen so r puttin the feelers out 4 replacements. When the deals go through we will start biddin 4 players again and the team will be complete by the time we get 2 Middlesborogh.

Despite the odd bad decision - mostly down to those of his employees - Levy is just the type of director every clubs wants. More importantly he normally gets what or who he wants which benefits all despite the odd grumblings.

But life goes on and as they say in you can't stand still in football. My only real fear is who would replace Levy when ENIC finally make the sale in the next 1-2 years.

For now I'll put my trust in Levy and Ramos to continue taking us forward from players, formations to league positions. Those who shout "selling both are steps backwards" need to open their eyes and stop dwelling on what was.

I never really believed Berbs would stay more than 2 years without CL but hoped he would fall in love with the club and want to remain, he didn't so disappointed but not surprised.

We have signed Modric and Dos Santos and welcome back Bale and King to full fitness so there are four big stars who werent aruond much last season and let's face it, we have 2-3 more coming in. At the very least lets get behind Darren Bent should he be the one leading the line, Remember, it's not his fault he cost 16 quid and he never realllly had a run to prove himself and he IS a player who wants to stay and earn his place and hasnt moaned when he was in the shadows last year. I've always been pretty resigned that Berbatov was going, but am not so sure about Keane. Keane has been good for Spurs, more than just on the pitch, I'll be disappointed in him if he goes. AFAIK he's never spoken publicly or through his agent (Berba?) about his desire to leave, that said, he could have ended the speculation himself by making a statement like Poyet's in the week. Now Levy makes a statement saying he wants to go and is unsettling the squad and all of a sudden everyone is jumping on his back. This is a dangerous game on Levy's part as it makes the players positions in the squad difficult. As I say I'll be disappointed in Keane if he goes, but perhaps we should wait until he's out of the door before judging him too harshly.

Levy's statement also seems to indicate that he is willing to sell both players despite us being a non-selling club. With Fergies come out saying that Levy is wrong about the Berbatov stuff, all this smacks of a massive face save operation on Levy's part and his the statement is aimed at getting the most financially for the players involved, while making the sale more palatable to the fans (by demonizing the players involved). Not saying Levy is wrong, just that it may not all be black and white.

Sorry if this is all over the shop, not really sure what to think! Anyway, let's hope Juande has some good alternatives lined up if the worst happens...

Dos Santos couldn't handle the physicallity of La Liga and couldnt score with the best midfield ever assembled. Capel is very raw, but he's left footed so we need him, but he's a passer and not a goal scorer. Modric is a world class setup man, but now his only targets are gone. Who the #*@% is going to score goals next year? In addition to the 10-12 we will get from Bent?

There's two issues here for me, what has actually happened and what we do about it.

I was at first worried that there was lot of spin, but DLs statements are pretty unequivacable and Fergie's response will NOT be embarrassing for us unless there IS something that we have to hide. If Fergie has indeed been misquoted, then the Sun will stand to be sued not DL and will have to pay big considering the monies involved. DL has said tho' that there is evidence and as someone mentioned earlier with Arnensen, DL has shown the patience of a true predator in choosing his moment (if we can only find a new forward with his instincts for the kill). There is a small doubt in me that maybe THFC are cashing in and that this array of mirrors in a smoky room is there to "sell" the prospect of key players leaving to the fans; the stock market will be more interested in the bottom line.

But I think that the truth is emerging and the DL has issued statements as the chairman of a PLC, presumeably with lawyers vetting and consenting to the comments, strongly suggests that wysiwyg here. Fergie blusters at everything, a tactic which frightens most antagonists, it will not frighten DL and ManU WILL pay. As for the bindippers they should be hung out to dry, but I can see DL taking their money plus compensation, then letting Villa issue their own complaint, thus getting the money and the revenge.

So we lose Keantov, but we would lose the strike partnership even if only one of them went; a fantastic pairing but how would they fit the Ramos way? RK has always been unpredicatble in his play and that is his strength trying to play against him is unplannable, but his ability to play a role and certainly the problems with benching him make JRs job harder not easier. DB is the same unpredictable, a genius one second a lazy sod the next who also cannot be substituted. If JR wants to change tactics he is hamstrung by the goldenboys and is in effect hadcuffed to a system that accomodates them. I think our Golden Boys are seen as playmakers, Teddy Sherringham types, but a lot of their play has been off each other: it will interesting to see how they play with the others, especially if they start dummy spitting everytime they are hauled off or not started!

So we lose the players, but we have gained the ability to play football according to a plan. If we score away, or get hit by an early goal we can change our system and tactics in-situ to adapt to a changed situation. This is a tactic JR used to great effect at Seville and will be increasingly important with the intorduction of the new substitution rules .

I think it unlikely that we will get an Eto'o, Villa, or even a Huntlaar. But I do think we are underestimating Bent and indeed Pekhart's ability to contribute and I'd expect one good striker to be bought in, especially with the dosh we are reported to be getting.

My feeling is that JR is also about building a thinking team that can be responsible for their game and make informed decisions on the pitch. A fitter team better prepared to counter opponents and with the ability to run and battle harder to do so. fitness and strength are things we've lacked at Spurs for a long time now.

Let's look at the positives now and sting those northern monkies for every penny.

Dear HarryHotspur, are you Daniel Levy in disguise or have you just fallen in love with him. If he were a true man and wanted the club to progress as quick as possible he would make his 2 most experienced players stay. Keane had signed a new contract last year and we have rights to extend Berbatovs. Instead he sees it as good deals for older players who may not be able to demand such fees again. He is trying to resemble us to Arsenal, however, the only difference is they sell there best players only when they are finished. Look at Henry, Viera, Petit, Anelka, they have not and will never be as successful as they were at the scum. Our team lacks experience and quality in the midfield and will now lack the same upfront. The younger players need high quality experienced players inorder to help them develop. All the big clubs bring in youngsters slowly to settled teams. And 15 million for Bentley..... what a waste that's going to be. I really hope that figure is exagerated.

Well, we have just won the 2nd training pitch game.

The absence of berbatov is what has got everyone talking. But, everyone is chirping on about King and Woody as our solid Centre Backs next season......sorry to burst your bubble, but King didnt play yesterday either!

Major cause for concern methinks.

Emotion by the bucketload - and I agree to being gutted at Keano's 180 degree turn - but also think Finn has got it right.
JR sees this as the chance to build HIS team and I do not believe that either DB or RK fits comfortably into a 4-5-1/4-2-3-1 SEvilla-style.
In most other respects we are there, or nearly there if we hook Bentley or Capel.
The real issue is the lack of a top quality striker who will spearhead such a mobile and aggressive way of playing.
Berba is far too lazy and Keane is frankly not quick enough. So, if there is the chance to rake in £45-50m and buy big, let's just make sure the chance is grabbed with both hands.
Darren Bent deserves a chance, but TBH neither he nor Pekhart is seriously going to spearhead a Top6 challenge, never mind Top4.
Huntelaar or Santa Cruz is the kind of player we need. Fast, strong and committed.
Please please no more mention of Fredi K.
Top talent, but when the going gets tough - or the ANC arrives - he is off down Bond St like a shot.
And yes, we still need quality cover for CB. Ledders is good for 10-15 games and Dawson just hasn't got what it takes.

Great response Finn, well said. I to don't believe that losing Bob n Berbs is that big a deal and wouldn't be surprised if Ramos was really quite willing, if not happy, for the pair of them to go. Thus giving him the dosh to invest in a midfield which could supply more out and out strikers, rather than the creators B&B are.

I think when it comes to transfer fees you have to suspend your disbelief.

My original point was that there is no point in bemoaning that Player X is overpriced at £45 million but £38 would somehow be fair.
