Dear Arry,
First up, well done for what you did for us this season. You might use substitutes like they cost extra, but on the whole a triffic bit of work, so a very sincere thank you.
Arry, can I ask you something? Is there any reason that despite being mostly a bit pants, you have steadfastly refused to sub or even dare I suggest it, drop ol' Pointy Shouty Bloke since his return from Bindippershire?
Do you think it's advisable to continue with this strategy if he doesn't get his mojo back in time for next season?
Or is this just an elaborate plan on your behalf so we go easier on Cisse when he signs, you old fox?
Thank San for the bread pudding, magnificent as ever - tell her, 'she's still got it!'
Your man in the trenches,
HH.

Harry,
The only reason he doesn't sub him is because he is the one person who is pointing and shouting at the other players. He wanted to sign someone who wouls stir up the dressing room. We nearly got Bellamy!!!
I do believe he offers more in teh leadership role than any of the other strikers, or midfield for that matter, with only Ledders and Woody there when you really need them.
He is always available for a pass and he works hard. Berbatov made him look better than he actually is, but he is still a good player and one of the best we have,
Sometimes though, he should be subbed, not played on the left wing. Rose or Bale can do that.
Lets not be too harsh on him, he has scored important goals for us in teh past and this season, the one at Sunderland for instance.
IMO Redkanpp is trying to get Keane and Modric interchanging during matches on the left hand side, but it will take time for them to get a good understanding. Keane hasn't been great but he works hard and as stated in the post above is always available for a pass.
We should give him the benefit of the doubt until next season, and if he doesn't perform then Harry should have no hesitation in dropping him.
Keane is a grafter, he's lost alot of confidence so you will see the best of him next season. With a few additions to the squad and a bit of culling here and there, old Harry will get us somewhere near where we want to be. I just hope he's given enough time, especially if we hit a bad patch. Remember weve all got what we wanted which is a Director of Football free club. So leave it up to old Saggy chops he knows his onions.
can't beleive Keane scored when he had time to think, and it wasn't a penalty. My only guess is he tried to miss on purpose
In my humble opinion, Keane is utter gash and should have been left where he was .LINK This is what we could have had for less money
Reply to Nick_The_Greek:
well we couldnt as he's already gone to the Waunders, so we took Keane back. Give the lad a break, he's proven so im glad we took him back.
As saidabove if he doesnt turn it on next season im sure Arry will do the business.
Dearest Harold
Surely the reason Hazza don't sub the boy is due to his being the only 'in a hole'...sorry, 'in THE hole' striker at his disposal since the ballet bullet departed.
A top of the range giant hammer-head is needed to lead from the front and truth to tell I couldn't care less which one of our current four back up strikers is sold to help pay for him.
I want the new and as yet unheard of Van Basten to be Harrys first secret signing and I wan't him NOW.
Over & done with,
D. Root

Nick we had a chance of buying Arshavin in the summer but they wanted 24m. As was well documented, we didn't want to part with the money. After we made such a pigs ear of the transfer window, Berbatov and not winning a match for 2 months, Arshavin had second thoughts. It was then an absolute no brainer for him when a CL team came in for him.
So we couldn't of had him at all and definitely not for less money. We had our chance LEvy and Commoli blew it. Keane is a decent player, you know he is and understandably you are angry about him heading North. but he is our player now. By many accounts Crouch is a done deal. He, like Berbatov, may bring out the best in Keane and Defoe.
I have a feeling PSB will soon be pointing and shouting elsewhere.
Maybe somewhere in the far north where they like horizontal green stripes.
Reply to Nick_The_Greek:
yep.
and its that sort of policy of buying shit and overlooking class that has and will keep us well outside the top 4.
We blew it big time there, and now Arsenal have ensured the gap between them and us lasts at least another 4-5 years.
we are just treading water, hopefully the new stadium will inject some ambition into us when it is built.

I really hope when it comes to signing the '3' new players, they really are 'wow factor' signings who are better than we have and are 1st choice players on the team sheet.
real class really does stand out but on the negative side usually cost a a lotta money that champions league teams can offer.
I think the key is harry redknapp and the fact that players do want to play for him ( would half the players be at portsmouth if he hadn't signed them????).
anyway, i'd like to think harry might get some players that would have just eluded him if he was still at portsmouth........just a thought.
if zokora, bale,BAE,bent, pav, jenas, chimbonda, keane left i wouldn't be too upset (did i miss anyone?? i still think bentley will come good)
i hope we can sign barry and maybe a couple of chesea players when the shit hits the fan over there.

This season after 25 games Villa were sitting in third place but only got another 11 points from their remaining games. Their poor form could be put down to weak squad or poor management????
The point I make is that they were within touching distance of the so called holy grail due to their good start to the season. The fact they subsequently fucked it up is another matter.
If we sort ourselves out early in terms of squad changes who knows what we could achieve.
Why can't we do Villa did and not blow it?

Its all so difficult. After all we DID only have 2 points ...etc and I am not sure that anybody else would have got us out of that mess. So I am going to give Arry the benefit of the doubt and say that Keane was a panic buy because Defoe was crocked.
However now we have 0 points from 0 games and a front pairing of PSB/JD never worked when arguably they were both in their prime, so how will it possibly work now that JD has at best plateaued and PSB is in serious decline?
I support the idea of buying for the "now" and letting the future take care of itself on the back of an exciting youth team and the funding that short term success would generate; but Cisse and Brown seems so far off the mark that it is really scary.
We need more than just three players. Only Gomes, Corluka, Woodgate, BAE, Palacios, Lennon and Defoe would be esentials for next season, plus King is handy ...for alternate games
Many others are good for the squad and they cannot all leave but if a couple of Hutton, Dawson, Jenas, Huddlestone, Keane, Modric and Pav left, I wouldn't cry too much, depending on how we spent the money.
On the other hand, if Bent, Bentley, O'Hara, Bale and Chimbonda (why on earth did we buy him back) make pre-season training, I probably would cry.
We do not need too much money. New players could almost be self-financing but Arry has to be brave. Perhaps even cruel.
He also needs to ask himself why 50,000 people started laughing when they heard the Cisse rumour.

Modric to leave? You wouldnt be too upset? Open your eyes you clown. The wee man is a genius who will only get better next season. Playing out of position on the left he has chipped in with what, 5 goals and approaching 10 assists, 9 to be exact. imagine him in his natural position roaming around behind the strikers? He'd be great, will be great.
Definitely a keeper!!!

Keane's going nowhere - time we accepted that. I'm not his biggest fan since he left, think he's come back a shadow of the player that left and I think he's nowhere near the same player without Berbatov.............. but he's here for the long haul, is an inspiration to the rest of the squad and is our club captain, so I'm behind him.
Keane is not in decline, he just needs a target man to play off of. Him and Berbatov made each other look much better than they individually are.
Bentley is not that bad either. He needs confidence. Twice I can recall him putting an inch perfect pass onto Bent's head and twice it has been squandered. They both just need confidence.
We will sell them both in this window and they will go on to be very good as they will get regular games and play in teams that play to both their strengths.

Inspiration for what, fuck him off as soon as possible

I think that with all the fantasy football games on the go, people forget that a club, a squad and a team are organic not mechanical and there are a myriad of subtleties that make it work or not when its not merely on paper. PSB has clearly had an effect on the attitude of those playing around him, an attitude that was simply not there when he left. Add in a bit of bite from the sarge and the lift of a "play properly or you're dropped" and the ship turned.
Man management is about the man as much as it is about the management and whilst these guys are doing what they love, they still have problems on and off the field, insecurities (yeah sounds naff when they earn what they do) but they are still there. These things effect the way they perform, it happens with dogs and horses too!
PSB was a key part of shaking up a bunch of sleepwalkers who had lost their way. Whether he continues to be a part of that I don't know, but I reckon there's at least another season or two of him doing the PS bit and making players on the field accountable for what they do.
As for Villa's demise, I think it shows just how hard it is to get up there and stay there and the depth of squad and consistency of both performance and self expectation, required. We did the same with Jol, Everton have skirted it too but its a bigger jump to stay there than many give it credit for. Bear in mind the money spent by the Russians, Yanks and the accumulated giros of half or Merseyside and you can see why the scum are starting to have a job keeping up.
I'd rather see us do an Everton and keep in there with cup spots and 5th/6th places till we get some traction from the stadium, strength in depth and a few class signings to launch us on the next step of getting the odd 4th. Then we look to take it to the top three. As they say success by the inch is a cinch but by the yard is hard!
Well done Harry (Redschnapps on a great turnaround and Hotspur on a good seasons blogging)

Where are his reports coming from, Broadmoor?
Why the constant Keane bashing still? JD was woeful on Saturday and was rightly taken off. Also, I may be wrong but, Keane scored didn't he?
When you look at the important stats for a forward Keane is still better than Defoe or Pav in the premier league...
Keane: Goals 10, Assists 7
JD: Goals 10, Assists 4
Pav: Goals 5, Assists 1
...and that's in a season where he spent half of it on the scousers bench. Anyone who says he isn't our first choice striker is nuts! Nuts I tell you!

robbie keane came back and spurs climbed the table in no time - something that spurs needed.
i think keane has one more chance.
when harry gets the players in he wants i'd like to think he will be better for the simple fact spurs will have better players around him and he can push up a lot more.
if he is just getting caught in possession in the midfield, harry will lose patience and he WILL warm the bench.
ps - nice to see him scoring a one on one for a change.

Spot on with your first 3 paragraphs.
Its just what I was thinking, but would have been struggling to get across on paper.
Theres more to PSB's game than the goals, I always think he links the midfield up with the strikers better than anyone else at the club.
Theres always going to be someone who isn't 'flavor of the month' on here, bloody hell we have had Gomes, Dawson, BAE, Modric, Pav, Corluka, Bale, Bent, Bentley all gone through the wringer on here, luckily most have come out the other side.

Agreed.
When PSB returned the link play between midfield and attack improved. Undoubtably he has had a poor run lately, and perhaps should have been dropped, but we were winning. And we had a pretty consistent line-up for those victories.
There is a lack of patience in the modern fan.
Gomes, BAE, and Dawson were the great improvers for the season. And I reckon Bent can join them next year. And from a position of top 6 EPL goalscorer that is not a bad position to build from.
More patience and respect for our footballers please.
(And our politicians).
