Another Unsatisfactory Email From THFC

More nonsense from the club. Thanks to CharlieChalk for passing on...

Dear Mr Wehaveyoubytheemotionalshortandcurlies,

Thank you for your e-mail.

There were a number of unprecedented issues at Thursday's match which led to Wisla supporters being in home areas:

- we are obliged by UEFA rules to provide visitors with more than 200 tickets in the West Stand

Okay, I can't be bothered to research for a rule so damn stupid, but I'll indulge you that it does exist. So Paul, you're the man. How many tickets exactly did you knowingly sell to these good folk?

- many Polish fans are actually One Hotspur members and usually support our Club

That's great news. What relevance doe that have to those who felt threatened enough to leave the ground?

- some used these memberships to secure tickets for themselves, friends and family and supported their local home town club on the night

Oh I see. So these ordinary decent fans supplied the loons who produced an Arsenal flag, then?

- other Wisla fans secured tickets from English friends or through family based in London

Eh? So it was our fault? But what has that got to do with YOU letting them in?

- some Polish fans used assumed English names or English addresses, some booked via the internet in their own names

The name thing is a smokescreen, Paul and a pretty low card to play. You cannot descriminate on grounds of an applicant's name. We aren't Chelsea.

- some fans gained tickets from touts

No sh*t. And what are you doing to counter these master criminals? Just in case you need some tips as to their exact location, they are the unsavoury types outside your front door every matchday wandering up and down asking everyone "TICKETS????"

Clearly, it was a far from satisfactory night. However, whilst there were some tense areas, the vast majority of fans from both sides were exceptionally well behaved and were extremely tolerant of a highly unusual situation. Sadly, one or two supporters - mainly from our Club it has to be said - were less than tolerant, which led to the tense situations I have described.

Oh I get it. Tolerance is now a one way street. Or at least it is in your book AFTER you inflict a threat on us.

Going forward, we may well restrict General Sales even further which may well lead to some Spurs supporters who rarely visit the Stadium missing out.

Don't really care what you do, just as long as you attempt to do more than count the receipts. You're a disgrace.

Regards, Paul

The point is that these colours wearing, very vocal Away fans ought to have been ejected on sight or better still denied entry in the first place. Any other argument is cobblers. Shame on you for mailing out this wet nonsense.

Admit you got it wrong and promise to try to do better next time. This would be a good way of distancing yourselves from being money grabbing gits too, just in case you hadn't thought it through.

Is this the faithful reporting of correspondence between a fan and the Club, or is it comments from the Club interspersed with sarcastic remarks from you which the Club has not had the opportunity to respond to prior to you publishing them in an attempt to make yourself look clever?

There isn't a prize for the most disingenuous question of the day but if there were it would have your name on it.

And... having just shaved prior to hitting the PUBLISH button today I am able to confirm I looked clever before doing so.

The email (black ink) is faithful and to those of you who either left school at seven or are an*lly pedantic, my thoughts are in blue ink

I often sit in the wrong end at games if it's easier or cheaper to get tickets that way.

Often at games in the north the home end is filled with ex-pat yids. You just know not to be explicit about it.

It's about the conduct, not ticketing policy. The stewards should have responded better, that's all.

shit that implies I actually want to know.

Well, H I normally agree with you on most things, but there is an element of truth here; I bought tickets for me and 5 Polish friends. They had other friends here who wanted to come and simply rang up, gave an english name and their own address and we all (15!) meet in the East stand and only 4 other them supported Wisla and the rest were cheering on Spurs! Apparently first time a Polish team as played in London for a while? Now I for one want to take my friends to Spurs games who dont support either team or who support the opposition. In the wider context of the issue, I am not that old to recall being able to do this at Spurs and me going over with my mates to cheer on anybody against the woolwich wonderers; I consider that due to the stupid hooligans of the 70s & 80s for which it must be said that Spurs more than played their part; (feyenoord; Ajax; that Chelsea game etc..) with have sterialised our game, boarding on ethnic/social cleansing. Clearly I am not calling for a free for all and of course people need to feel safe at football matches and nor am I saying that the club are faultless here in this situation, but I have gotta say I enjoyed the Wisla fans being mixed with us and long may other fans mix with us again in the name of football and I long for the time again when me and my gooner mates can sit together again, watch a match again and be allowed to cheer when either team score and simply have fun! Ps My mates said I wouldnt bother sitting in the Wisla stand for the away leg! Theyre a bit it naughty apparently!

As a protest during tomorrows match, why don't all Spurs supporters whiten their faces with make-up and draw two bleeding holes on the side of their necks.

Pass it on..........

Alfie, I can't imagine many people mind a few polish bods who know how to behave in that sort of situation, sitting around in the home side. Its the one's who don't who were the problem and they should have been dealt with quickly and professionally. The club appear to have acted irresponsibly but won't accept it, which suggests more of the same to come.

I too in the past used to go to cheer on teams against the woolwich trespassers but always in the away end. Had I done so with gusto in the home end, I'd have fully expected to be 'escorted' out; hopefully by a nice bobby.

I for one am unhappy with this and I wasn't even there! As a fan in the NW I only go to games on an ad hoc basis. I was a member but at ÂŁ30 or so for two games it just wasn't worth it. As such it sounds like fans like me who might try and get a ticket will find it even more difficult than I normally do! Great.
Also I often get clients / contacts ringing me asking if I'd like to watch the mighty Spurs play Manure, citeh, Blackburn etc, etc, always in the home end. This in itself is not a problem as I'm usually on my own (as a Yid) and keep my mouth shut when / if we score.

On another note re our blatant short comings, I often read Tim Vickery's column on the BBC website (he's their man in S. America). He was commenting on how good a side Paraguay are at the mo and how suprised that more European sides hadn't snapped up more of thier side. As such surely they've got a half decent DM that we could pick up for peanuts as most of em play in their native country or Mexico! Surely this is what a D. of F. should be being paid for picking up some players from far flung countries as well as all the Europeans as any of us could name players like Modric & Pav etc!!!!! FFS!!!!! Comoli get your f'in finger out you hooped jumper, onion string, beret wearing surrender monkey!!!

All in all exactly what I expected. A professionally written business letter. What I would have liked to have seen is more along the lines of:

1. We appreciate you taking time to voice your opinions, and recount your experiences on the night.
2. We take the welfare and of our fans very seriously and will launch a full enquiry into the whole affair.
3. We will ensure from now on, that any supporters wearing away supporter outfits that are acting in a provocative manner, be ejected immediately.
4. Please understand that we cannot always identify the nature of the person buying the tickets bought online or whose tickets were procured through other means. However we will investigate and track the tickets back to members/season ticket holders if they were responsible for selling on their tickets to persons undesirable.
5. We are initiating plans to stop the unauthorised selling of match day tickets, to prevent any risk these touts have to match day safety and security.
6. On the sale of tickets for the home end, we have clearly highlighted that any persons buying a ticket that causes provocation, vocally supporting the away side, or wearing the away colours will be ejected without refund.

Can't help but think this is all a bit much for them to make the effort though. After all - any new procedure will take time and money to implement...and god knows we need all the money we have to buy Villa, Arshavin, Heskey in January.

The club were not responsible for the opposition fans being there or their conduct, but maybe as some commented, its how it was handled. I'm quit sure the club will do what they can for future games.
Quite rightly this should of been pointed out to the club, but can't help but think that some of the comments made in response the clubs reply are a bit tetchy, perhaps due to our current poor showing on the pitch rather then anything the club has done wrong with this incident.

Not as easy as it sounds now that London can rustle up a soccer crowd for any nation from any suburb!

Clearly things have to be looked at but if this is a real and ongoing roblem then its causes and cures (if there are any) go way beyond just White Hart Lane.

Trembly - nicely written post but I really don't think there is much in this story. The response from THFC seemed reasonable enough to me.

Harry. You are an erudite, witty and exceptionally classy gentleman. Your site is at it's best when you are riffing the tittle-tattle and trivia of day-to-day THFC. When you are on form it really is a delight. However, in my humble opinion, it all starts to go horribly wrong whenever you play to the cheap seats.

Two recent examples: the ill-judged foray into what constitutes a racist remark and then, this thread, today. (It's interesting that whenever you do this the incidence of the word c*** in posts defending your position increases significantly)

Today, I found John White's first post perfectly matched my feelings. A little further down the page, Alfie Conn's Hatrick wrote an exquisite response that articulated what, I hope, are the feelings of the majority of reasonable people. There was a time when North London football fans would happily go to the home games at both Spurs and Arsenal - whatever their allegiances.
