Arry To Meety Aiden McGeady

Thursday, 28 May 09, 03:04 PM · Comments (140)

Last time I shared information in relation to our Caledonian Cousins I said nothing to cause any real offence, yet a vocal tartan minority acted like I'd reinvoked prima nocta live on tea time Scottish telly.

So may I injecture some goodwill and say that each year, literally tens of people go on holiday to Scotland, the vast majority of whom return to civilization without permanant facial scarring.

Back on topic - the two words on the street are Aiden and McGeady. Not Edie and McCredie, I said Aiden McGeady. Talk Celtic.net (A poor man's Lord Of The Wing) have fella on there who claims to know his onions.

And I quote, "alright bhoys and ghirls..the wee man is meeting with harry on wed or thurs..if yous remember i told yous all 1st about the training bust up with artur....well its the same person who has told me about this and its defo gona happen so ive been told...thoughts???should we sell him or not??"

The monies being touted on the same board are around the £6 million. So presumably we'll initially pitch in c.£4 million and end up paying £8 million. What does he do? Play on the right wing, so make like Rolf Harris and draw your own conclusions.

There's plenty of idolatory You Tube footage, so if you seek to watch it, you now know where it's located.

My thoughts? All the links worth evaluating with players so far fit the Arry Redschnapps MO, which is to say what they lack in sparkle they perhaps offer in ability and value.

This may be a difficult window my Yid chums. Not because we miss out on the eyecathers, rather because we don't pursue them at all in the first place.

Substance over style? Stone me.

Copies of The Lane of Dreams autographed by Jimmy Greaves and Steve Perryman are being offered on a first-come-first-served basis at http://www.thelaneofdreams.co.uk

The all-in price, including p&p, is £25, with a £2.50 supplement for overseas orders. This price will increase once the book is on sale in the shops. The RRP for the 264-page book is £18.95

Author Norman Giller says: 'The autographed version is being snapped up quicker than hot bagels in Tel Aviv. And I expect more orders when Jimmy is back in the spotlight at the FA Cup Final when Setanta are reuniting Saint and Greavsie for the day. A new generation will get to appreciate just how special Jimmy is, with his humour and no-nonsense views. And he could play a bit, as his all-time goal-scoring record for Spurs proves.

"'What would his transfer price be if he were at his peak today? Let the bidding start at £29,999,000.' Jimmy, of course, famously joined Spurs from AC Milan for £99,999, because Bill Nicholson did not want to burden him with the pressure of being British football's first £100,000 player.

"A chapter is devoted to Jimmy's input to the Tottenham Glory-Glory days in The Lane of Dreams."

HH says, "Stop mucking about and buy one."

I've only seen a bit of Celtic play this season, but the lad didn't make much of an impression on me. But hey, "talent evaluator" isn't part of my job description. My Celtic worshiping pals think he's the nuts though.

Im Irish and Ive been watching this boy playing internationally for a few years now. At first he was complete and utter shit, the ball was glued to his foot and he went on random marathon like runs that ended in a throw in for the opposition.

Hes improved a good bit now, Scottish player of the year last year and all that, Hes two footed and he can play on left and right with pretty much equal ability. Having said that I cant remember seeing him Absolutely dominate a game like Modric can from the left

I think hes worth a punt at 5-7 million but if its going to be 9+ leave him be. Half of me thinks he is the answer, Half of me thinks he is Bentley MKll

Surely this doesn't mean that we'll be getting too Scots though? I read your "Brown Bread" story a week or so ago - although I wouldn't mind both.

Just a few words on Greavsie. There have been many great goalscorers but I have never seen anyone better than Jimmy on a one to one with the keeper. When Jimmy found himself in that position, which he did on numerous occasions you could safely bet your house that the ball would end up nestling cosily inside the net put there by the Fagan of the penalty area, wonderful memories from the greatest goalscorer the club have had or ever likely to. Brief because I didn't see it, as it was out at the training field. But Sounders made through the play in round of the US Cup. The boys beat Colorado-last week's draw-by a 1-nil scoreline. On a side note, I wonder how (without trying to revert to outmodish steeotypes) these Celtic lads will cope with the zero tolerance for alcohol approach enforced by Arry. LINK

We've already got enough players of our own making the headlines with paparazzi shots of Ledders, Gio Dos, and eye witness reports of Hutton sharing a family squabble with his Pa.

LOTW - how about their personalities? Are we going to see a livelier up for it Spurs squad? One thing about getting the no-speaka-da-eengleesh foreign imports, is that the banter must be shite what with them trying to understand eachother.

Can we assume that there is a core set of English speakers that rev up the team? I'd doubt it given the fact that when you see players getting off the coach on away trips they're always pulling their ipod headphones out of their ears. Not much banter on the bus then? Prime example is Bent and JJ, always seem to have at least one earphone on.

I wouldn't mind if they were listening to this speech LINK or even some kind of Anthony Robbins mantra.

Personally, I'd take substance over style at the minute given we've got an imbalance of flair players on our books. A centre midfield pairing of Hanson brother types would be ok in my book.

Living in Stirling is toooo far from WHL but I do get down and scare the locals with all my scars and grim appearance! McGeady is an attack-minded midfielder who likes to operate either in the hole behind the strikers or can play out wide on either wing. Local opinion varies: The native celts think he's s**t because he was born in Glasgow but plays for the Republic. Being somewhat confused by his genetic and tribal loyalties he enjoys kicking opponents as a sign of dedication. 5 yellows in 27 games. Or maybe he comes from the Paul Scholes school of tackling?

Point is he tackles. This rumour makes sense in that he would be a good fit in arry's jigsaw, especially if pieces are missing here and there.

To be honest watching McGeady this season has been as frustrating as watching Jenas. He thought he was better than he was at times and didn't look anything speacial. He can play left or right but i think there's better business to be done out there. McGeady is an under achiever but I don;t think his potential is that great. He is not our standard of player, in the last year or so he hasn't got into the Republic of Ireland team and Shaun Maloney was favoured over him for the Rangers game, and that speaks volumes.

Goodness, didn't he make Stuart Downing look like John Barnes in his pomp. I thought, is that all he's got? I know it was pre season, but they had the league starting the following week, but he couldn't even beat the Zok who is hardly Cafu.
The next think I heard about him was having a bust up with Strachan. Not much since.

Who are the three lads in the line up???

My guess is JJ (right) Modric (centre) and on the left it's lennon I reckon or maybe Sandra Redknapp!

Anyway I am an Irish spurs fan and have seen a lot of McGeady for both Club and country. He has been working hard at areas of his game that have required improving and is getting better all the time. He works hard and tracks back well and is always prepared to take on full backs. He is two footed (just to clarify he has got two feet and knows how to use both) and can go either way.

He is predominently left sided but interchanges with Nakamura at celtic and Duff for Ireland to great effect. He would be a super addition and would give Redknapp a choice of two from lennon Modric and McGeady and whoever he leaves out providing impact from the bench. His versatility, work ethic and goals from midfield would be a welcome addition to the Spurs squad in my humble opinion.

I think we would need to shell £8m to get him leaving Arry £22 of his kitty to tie down two more 'top quality' signings. Carew & Muntari (I hope) Crouch & Downing (I expect)

It's going to be a very long summer

Long live HH

So fucking what?!

We need to sign players from the Worlds best leagues if we're serious about our ambitions. The only exception to this is if they're kids with real potential.

I'd rather risk giving Adel 10 starts next season, than buy McGeady (a year younger than Rooney and Ronaldo)

I'm no expert but if he was REALLY even half decent big Niall would have bought him for Sunderland along with every other Irish player in World Football?

If you think about it Modric is never really going to play in the middle is he?

Whoever we get for the left will be back up anyway...

Yes, we keep hearing about the need for an LW, but where then Luka? Same with a targetman to partner JD or Keane. Where does Luka fit?

Personally, I'd be happy keeping Luka on the left and buying another strangler to play along side Wilson.

As the song goes LINK My point here being that earlier I read on another newnow link how Arry's old head of Scouting at Pompous was finally joining him at Spurs. Whilst great news, it was delivered with a bit too much "i don't get the credit I deserve for my scoops" attitude :? He even yapped on about how 'other blogs' are only just mentioning McGeady when he announced it a week ago(?)

Don't get me wrong HH, you know I love you as much as BMJ, but I don't really come on here for the articles, it's more that you've acquired quite a decent bunch of regulars who have an interesting blend of opinion, history, tall tales and character. This ere place is like a Pub, without the booze (I'm sure Arry approves). I could (and do) occasionally go and drink in infotainment at other venues, but you know... you wanna go where people know, people are all the same - you wanna go where everyone knows your name.

My response - keep on keeping on. Your heart's in the right place (bar one or 2 iffy non-PC lapses). Personally, the thing that I'm in awe of is when peeps on here start reminiscing their life's experiences to the tune of Glory Glory. I'd like to know more about The Ghost, I'd like to get insides Greaves' head. I'd like to get inside the head of some of our current crop of youngsters - their dreams and experiences of being at Spurs. I don't have the contacts or time to investigate and yes I know I can just buy the book, but if you wanted to shut the ITK's up a little, by all means leave them to break wind when they fancy it, whilst you stimulate the conversation in a place where they're always glad you came.

SOUNDERS

Saturday, the boys face defending MLS champs Columbus Crew at the Xbox Pitch (yes, that’s what they’re calling it).

Sounders FC (4-4-2) have had 4 straight draws, so a win is desperately needed. 5 games unbeaten is probably the cheerier way to look at the recent form. Chivas did them the favor of losing Thursday, so 3 points gets Sounders back in the mix in the West.

Sounders won’t change how they’ve been getting goals: Montero (think Defoe type) and bruiser Jaqua up front and Steve Z in midfield. Gooner Freddy may decide his achy head will let him play after missing the last 2 game with a migraine. League best keeper Super Kasey Keller anchors the D.

Crew are also draw specialists with a record of (2-6-2) and are unbeaten in their last 6. They won Wednesday, 2-1, over San Jose. They’re a dangerous team. A lot of speed on the flanks with Guillermo Barros Schelotto (ex Boca), Emmanuel Ekpo (Nigeria national), Robbie Rogers and Alejandro Moreno. Defender and captain Frankie Hejduk is legend on the US Team. He’s about 35 and has made the US squad for the past 13 years.

So, both sides attack, both need points, both draw a lot. Take Sounders to edge it at home 2-1

COYSS!!!!!!

I’m out for the night

Hes improved a good bit now, Scottish player of the year last year and all that, Hes two footed and he can play on left and right with pretty much equal ability. Having said that I cant remember seeing him Absolutely dominate a game like Modric can from the left

Thanks for everthing you did for our club Jimbo, and good luck for Saturday.

Aiden McGeady is a left winger. He plays on the right for Ireland just because he can play on the right, where as Duff, Kilbane, or Andy Reid cant. He is a fantastic player, but I would perfer modric, and because of this, i would avoid signing him.

(Brief) Sounders Update

Brief because I didn't see it, as it was out at the training field. But Sounders made through the play in round of the US Cup. The boys beat Colorado-last week's draw-by a 1-nil scoreline. No idea how the match went, but the important thing is they now enter the 3rd round of the Cup. Exciting times!

Just thought I'd point out that there's no evidence that prima nocta was ever used by the English in Scotland, but Mel Gibson hates the english (and the jewish, so I guess he's not a spurs fan) and it made for a good sub-plot in Braveheart, so now everyone thinks we went about raping scottish women in the late 13th century

Another side note: Including McGeady, are we actually trying to sign a squad of players with a history of dodgy knees? Or are we still looking a for a replacement for Anderton?

Ossies' ones only trembled because we were off to Wembley and not because he couldn't play two games a week.

One of the most interesting things Arry said when he took over was that there were a lot of very good footballers at Spurs 'and maybe that's the problem....'

I would be amazed if there are any signings this window that blow our socks off.

Steady as she goes will be the order of the day and this will tie in neatly with the 'being creative' agenda.

We need to sign players from the Worlds best leagues if we're serious about our ambitions. The only exception to this is if they're kids with real potential.

I'd rather risk giving Adel 10 starts next season, than buy McGeady (a year younger than Rooney and Ronaldo)

I'm no expert but if he was REALLY even half decent big Niall would have bought him for Sunderland along with every other Irish player in World Football?

If you think about it Modric is never really going to play in the middle is he?
