Colonel Stok:
I wish to defect, but there are conditions.
Harry Palmer: What do you
want?
Colonel Stok: I want colonel's pay for life.
Harry Palmer: Don't we all.
In the good old days, one simply got on the trumpet to the Home Office and once a few dozen forms had been completed and countersigned, they'd send Harry Palmer out to defect you.
In this modern age of football agents and multiple football agents - the world of double agents seems actually more straightforward.
Anyway, Archibald on Spurs Odious was confident as hell that there would be a medical today for old Smoothbum. Alas, not to be. The cynic in me says this was never on the cards anyway. No disrespect to the tipster named after Aberdeen's finest, but disinformation and cobblers various has crippled even the best sources this season. And Archibald has already called medicals for Dunne and Ferdinand that never happened. As I say, this isn't a dig, more symptomatic of the current climate.
My guess is that the stumbling blocks are numerous. The player is probably at the absolute height of his stock value and if my discussions with 'an agent' were anything to go by then Levy will be near his wits end. The mess of unscrupulous financial shenanigans and backhanders will bring this transfer to nothing.
The player wants to come to the West and grow roses. Unfortunately, his destiny is very much in the hands of men who's ambitions all include the phrase 'early retirement for me.'

zenit's club comments this afternoon suggest a deal will be concluded.....apparently they quoted £19m to begin with though will meet spurs in middle at their offer of £14m. so £16m?
not sure why we are not looking at a centre back, perhaps there is little out there for us.
This suggest otherwise, mate...LINK
Hardly surprising news HH
I have always had the feeling they have seen AA as a cash cow. All trying to put various fingers in the Arshavin pie so to speak, in order to all get as you say "retirement money".
I maintained all along that his transfer could see us getting ripped off. At £15m the price is right (just about) anything above that seems exorbidant, especially at the £24m Zenit are reported to have wanted initially. I very much doubt that Daniel Levy will want to get hismelf embroiled in the world of half truths and double talk that seems yto have surrounded Mr Arshavin.
Strangely, the person I feel sorry for in all of this is Arshavin. He wants to leave Russia to better his carreer, experience another style of football and yes earn himself some good cash. But ultimately the merky world around him have driven his price up to ensure they all get in on the act, meaning Mr Smoothbum will never get his wish.
I am just not sure about this player smells a bit like Rebrov or Postiga me.I really think this money could be spent elsewhere still need a real quality DM and still deffo need cover at CB.Any news on either of these positions Harry
Personally (after watching pre season friendlies) think that Bent should be the first name on the sheet. As for Arshavin, (not tested yet in a top class leauge) there's a gamble for ya. Could be another Rebrov. I say sell Berb because he dont want to be there anyway! Then use all that lolly to get Villa. Im convinced that this will be the one we finally beat the scum. COME ON YOU LILLY WHITES !!!!!!

Agree we need more defensively as we look quite good going forward.
Graham Roberts mentioned on talksport the other day that we were interested in another CB and Veloso the Sporting Lisbon DM - don't know if there is any truth to this but this is where I'd be spending my money as we look no better at the back than last year and that is a worrying sign if we truly want to move forward as a club.

You are wiser then your years young Skywalker. The force is not strong with Odious as the agents from the dark side intend to build a new Death Star using the transfer funds with a Vodka producing satellite orbiting it.
I agree his price is inflated by those wanting to make a quick buck. But we do need another option up front. I dont think JR will let Berbasulk go until we have a replacement but on his last two showings I for one will be glad to see him go as he obviously doesn't want to wear our shirt.
Well done the boys at the weekend

Press the shift key and the number 3 key at the same time! lol
If we end up paying the £19.8m that Zenit want I feel we'll be paying way over the odds. Surely for that kind of money there is better options out there. Quaresma at Porto, Simao at Benfica, even if we went a little higher and bought Silva in from Valencia it would be a better deal.
IMO I would like to see us get Veloso and bring in another striker like Fred at Lyon or go back in for Milito at Zaragoza.
Gunter can play at CB (where he has impressed for Wales) and I'm sure will be one option as CB back up. Would still like to see a an experienced CB come in to take Dawsons place.
Don't know why if Fergie is so desperate to land Bebatov we say yeah you can have him but we want Anderson or Hargreaves as part of the deal.Get rid of a player who apparentley does not want to be there and also landing a DM who are going to be better than Zokora.

Always get a feeling Daws would come back to haunt us if we let him go. Is that Gunters natural position?. Oh there it is £££££££££ Weeee...... lol
By haunt do you mean its because he's always gaunt and pale?? Like a friendly ghost??
Dawson just seems to make to many simple mistakes. Everytime the ball came towards him when he was marking a striker yesterday i expected him to misjudge the bounce or flight of the ball before watching the striker walk past him as he stumbled. That and the fact he seems to be the only player in the side who still likes hoofing long balls up the pitch. If we are to capitalise on Bent's running and movement we need balls slid down the outside of the CB's or round the back of the defence. Not long straight balls that will be headed straight back at us.
Reply to Paul:
Don't see how he would complement Benty or Dos Santos anyway. Keep hold of Berbs! Arshavin is hardly a target man is he?
He's a replacement for Keane. If we sell Berbatov, then we'll replace like for like. ie Santa Cruz or Huntelaar

I agree we need someone like Veloso more urgently. I hope that deal goes down and I hope its soon.
The Roma game will show the cracks in our back, that haven't been as obvious in the rest of the preseason friendlies -- which have not really threatened in our half yet.
Arshavin is definately worth 19m in my opinion!
Just get the deal done for f*cks sake!
there is more dead wood still to get rid of, boateng, kaboul, Lee young po, Ghaaly (about 15m total to come in)
We should then buy Veloso who can play CM or CB! solving dm and central defensive cover.
keep berbatov also at all costs, he cannot be blind to the way we are playing and the exciting new faces and new system. he must realise we can do it this season!

***i realise if berb does leave villa is a good replacemant, but if it comes down to a straight choice I think we would be better off keeping him if we can. In our talented but short attack inc midfield. Berbatov has some height where as villa wouldnt give us that dimension.

HH,
“Tottenham offered us €20m (£15.8m) for Andrei, but that does not work for us. We are waiting for a new proposal,” said Konstantin Sarsaniya, Zenit’s sporting director.
“Initially we announced that negotiations will start at around €25m (£19.8m). What the final transfer fee will be in the end is hard to say.”
To me this suggests a possible agreement is still on. so far we have had mostly arshavin's agent telling us about a deal, but he's an agent so we all dismiss this as rubbish. but now zenit are talking about a large difference, when in fact the difference is not large at all.
they have not categorically denied any move. spurs have not rubbished this either.
i think we will be seeing the signing complete this week.
just a gut feeling.....no inside source via levy's tea lady.
Mike - Good shout with the Santa Cruz / Huntelaar shout. Santa Cruz is injured now no? And Blackburn would probably not want to sell another one of their key players to us. Huntelaar would be sterling but may want CL football.
Matt - Berba is gone. His mind is elsewhere and his attitude stinks. Bent deserves to start against Roma and Boro as he has put in the hard yards over the summer.
We now have 7 subs at our disposal in order for the PL to come into line with other european leagues.
Veloso would be excellent. As too would be Villa.
I would rather pay £30m for someone like Villa than pay £19m for Arshavin.

The boy defends with the badge on his heart. I agree he makes some poor decisions but that can be put right. I also think he needs somebody whos expirienced and controling next to him. But he hadnt an expirienced CB for nearly all last season Kaboul, Zakora, Hud, I think Teemu was back there. Im just saying there's definately potential to be very good. In any case at least he doesnt want an "arm round his shoulder" like that twat Kaboul.
i'd just like to say to harry that this a top notch site! i've bin a spurs fan since i could pull on some boots and a shirt and love the club till the day i'm pushing daisys, with the arshavin transfer we could have got him last year for around 10 to 12 players who command that money do so for a reason coz he is shit hot, however the market vale of players goes up after a championship zokora anybody??never mind the likes of diouf e.t.c we have made some astute signings and even after the sale of robbie i think ther could be more in the pipeline but i'm sick of reading this and that and want us to play with players who want to play with the proud cockerill emblazoned across there heart. we've got a good squad, better than we've had for years but we maybe need another striker but if berba stays i want him to stay because he wants to not because he's forced to and if he were to go then bring in some quality, arshavin certainly fits in there but we can't be held to ransom after a good showin in the championships although form prior to that suggests he'd be a great signing. having watched my beloved spurs pre season and i know its easy to say we look good and benty needs a chance u don't fork out 16-5 mill on a player who is shit or turned shit over night, at 24 he's hungry and ready to prove his worth given a chance, us yids can be a fickle lot jol out? the bloke woz the sort of bloke u'd have proud to run your team straight down the line i loved him but to be fair we've stepped up a gear again and i belive this season could be 1 to remember, give benty a shot i'd av him instead of berba at the moment for predatory instincts the way we've bin playin and if berba stays amazin, but we can't afford to have players who don't want to play for us and their hearts elsewhere equally we can't be bent over a barrel by people who are charging 10 mill 2 much to get an early retirement, we're goin places i've got my money on spurs winning another trophy, break the bank villa anyone?
i think we should pay the 19m for arshavin now, as we definately know he wants to come to us and seeing him play for russia and on youtube, it's plain to see he's shi1t hot!
i think pay the 30m for villa only if berbatov goes! (but we still dont know if villa even wants to come to us!) so i wouldnt risk letting the arshavin deal fall through because were waiting for villa, get this bit of business done asap i would hate us to miss out on both.
scum are after veloso, but knowing them tight arses they wont go above 14m if that! he is the final piece in the jigsaw for this seasons assault as he is a high quality DM/DC. we can also generate money for him from the rest of the dead wood we have. (kaboul, Boateng, Ghaaly, Lee YP.) not that we need to.
for the record Dawson wos our rock 2 seasons ago without ledley 55 games in a year 5th place great cup runs in front of an average midfield we are stronger but michael is a more than ademant replacement for woody or king one more striker villa or arshavin for more options, look at the players the manager we've got already, top four...fuck it i want top 2 but i know its optimistic but hey thats wot us spurs fans are all about but at least this year we have the right....cheers harry thought i'd get that off my chest cheers for a great sight and lets look forward to a great season, love the spurs and every fan peace out aidy-j xxx
Continuing on the Harry Palmer analogy, I've read that Arshavin is a a bit of a bod. I read he has a Degree in Fashion design. Must have a "Million Dollar Brain"
Seriously though, £20 million for an unproven 27 year old in the premier league is silly money. I can quite understand why Levy doesn't want to pay that much. The risk is too high.
Sorry guys but the idea that we would sign Arshavin was a moot point anyway. Apparently he wants £135 000 a week which i believe slightly breaks our wage structure. Spurs pulled out of this deal about 20 minutes after we were granted permission to speak to him(2+weeks ago). This guy keeps dropping you in the shit Harry, Id ignore him from now on.
David Villa is on his way - Arshavin was never a top target, and a hell of a lot was leaked to the press 'about our big name signing'. So now our actual big name signing 'big name signing' villa wont come with an over-inflated price tag. Watch this space.
i agree with matty, veloso is the perfect signing being able to play as a defensive midfielder or center back. I'd pay up to 18m for arshavin thus breaking even with the keane transfer. arshavin is definately worth the money and i really think we're going to get him. zenit and levy are both playing hard ball and reckon we'll end up paying about 17m for him. the scum are being freshly linked with veloso but lets hope thats just designed to scare benitez into dropping the alonso price.
What is your user name on Spurs Odyssey?
If we get Villa and Veloso as DM and a new CB (e.g. a Gus Puyol clone)and we will be set.
I am afraid Kings not going to feature much again this year and woody, while fitter, is injury prone too.
I am more worried about the back than the front.
Not being funny HARRY but according to you Bentley had is medical 2 months ago... Thats was very wide off the target!
Lets be honest... Nobody has a f****** clue when Arshavin will have his medical.

Nicely in line with some of our previous conspiracy theories. Until we were made aware, from Arshavins agent, that Ramos has been tracking him for a few years. You could guess that Juande wants both, and before anyone brings up the £££'s again, it is viable and if the market was played well enough, come 1st Sept, they may well both be in the lilywhite.
Its all gone relatively quiet on the Valencia linked stories. I'm guessing that there's continuing behind the scenes movement there. Although it currently seems that our chances of getting a cost effective, yet experienced natural born leader in Albelda are waning, with the new guard telling him he's wanted after all. 3m Euros would have been an absolute steal in my books, but some players just want to stay where they are due in part to something called 'Loyalty', whatever that is.
Wage structure? Thats in place and although it might need a slight tweak, reports of £135K p/w is ludicrous. The board might be ambitious, but financially its got its head screwed on properly. the only way I can see us paying a Russian national hero like Arshavin those wages, is if Levy suddenly announced that the plans for the new home of Spurs was to be called the Gazprom Stadium and Mansion can take their red logo and stuff it all on Number 32red.
All we've had so far is the prelude. With all the principle characters still to recite their soliloquies, all the major off pitch drama is yet to come. The leitmotif to this however remains the same..."Glory Glory Tottenham Hotspur"
Side note: Anyone seen ManU's away kit? From the back its the blue and white of Spurs. When I saw Carrick wearing it I was well confused!
i don't think we will see any more defeders being brought in this window Bruce..
when Juande arrived the first thing he did was sort out the defence in the January window so i think, in his mind at least, he has his optimum back four, injury-prone or not..
Medical was booked last week for today in the hope that an agreement could be found over the weekend. Such an agreement has not been reached yet. Hence cancelled. Deal not dead. The source is good. Your childish comments about the source clearly dont prevent you going on there for your only source of information other than the tabloids.

Bringing in Woody and Hutton were definately key, but I don't agree that those perchases (+ gilberto) "sorted out the defence". "Injures or not, won't do." What if woody gets hurt, we need a proper CM. As I said, anyone how thinks King will be a regular -- as much as I wish he could as well -- is not being realistic.

yes but in Juande's mind i think it will do..
I see your point, but I am still holding out hope for another CB before the end of August. It looks like flogging Kabul to Pompey will bring in a bit more bacon for the cause.
The last defender we've been linked with is Deportivo's Coloccini. Supposedly a tidy defender and someone who goes to the same barbers as Puyol does
Is he what you was looking for Bruce? Better get on the phone quick, lets nick another barcode target before they finalise the deal. They all really want to play for Spurs anyway.
whatever happened to Hutton we don't heare about him anymore?
I think Ramos is happy with the CB's he has. For some reason he feels that we can become stronger in defence by having a new GK, Woody & King as first choice CB's Dawson, Gunter, Hudd, Zok as back up - Doesn't inspire me really.
Like i said Gunter is a good CB and has shown this playing for Wales in the last year or so. Dawson I feel needs to be playing next to King to feel safe as King has the pace to cover for mistakes, something Woody does not. Zokora, while trying hard is not a CB and Hudd whilst being big and strong is not very mobile and will be exposed against anyone remotely pacey.
Veloso - I know he can play CDM but how good is he at CB?

Onto a more serious note... Does anyone know what team Andy Gray supports?? His biased commentary to the top 4 has started early this year>>
He said: 'One day Spurs are going to break into the top four but I don't see it happening this season. Selling Keane is a big gamble and Bentley apart, I am not impressed with the players they have brought in.
'If I was a Spurs fan I would be concerned. If Dimitar Berbatov (linked with a move to Manchester United) goes I would be worried about a lack of firepower.
'Darren Bent has been scoring a lot of goals in pre-season friendlies but he seems to find it much harder to score against the big boys.
'I know Spurs have been linked with Arshavin but I think he has been over-hyped. I'm not a big fan of Modric either. He looks ordinary to me but I can only assume Juande Ramos knows what he is doing.'
YES ANDY. Ramos does know what he's doing. He is a football manager. He has the high powered stressful job of managing in one of the biggest leagues in world football.
You on the other hand have nothing more stressful to worry about than sitting in a television studio with that fucking glove puppet Richard Keys > The punditary equivalent of BEIGE!! & Jamie "LITERALLY" Redknapp (I hope someone has taught him the meaning of literally over the summer!! "He's literally left him for dead there" Good work Jamie, good work!
In terms of KPB, people know very little about him. He disappeared for months last season, then made one appearance again for Ramos. Then disappeared again. He's certainly not in Ramos' first team plans unless the entire first team is wiped out, along with the academy, reserve and youth teams. If that all happens, we might hear about KPB again. I, for one, was thoroughly disappointed with him last season. One of last year's summer signings I looked forward to. Now I look forward to him on this year's summer sellings.
To continue....
"I'm not a big fan of Modric either. He looks ordinary to me"
Andy Gray must be the only man in world football who finds a talent like Modric ORDINARY. Prick

I am sure Andy Gray is a Chavski fan. Full of himself. He's way off the mark with those comments. Paid to spew shite.
If Modric had signed for Man Utd, Chelsea, Or Ar5ena1 Gray would have been wetting himself in anticipation!!
He's obviously not watched the Croatia - England game or any of the Euro's if he thinks Luka is ordinary.
Arshavin behind Bent (sounds ominous) would be fan fucking tastic, get him!
No reason why we can't buy a DM too.
£18m should do it.
andy gray was quite a terrible player in his day. the only thing he could do was tackle badly - badly. a very poorman's lee carsley.
what has modric done to suggest he is NOT a truly gifted player? ordinary? bilic did not think so and he is a far better player/manager than gray.
gray is one of those people that is comforable sputong rubbish about teams but has never had the b0llocks to try his hand at real football management - give me trevor brooking any day.
It annoys me that his comments are actually aired. Fair enough in his day he was a good striker but what else has he done since then??
He's just a fat meatheaded arsehole who is surrounded by people that agree with him (Richard Keys, Jamie Redknapp, Martin Tyler) I'd actually strectch it and say that I prefer Mark Lawrenson's commentary "at the merrrment"
anyone else think another attacking player is one too many? surely if it's obvious to us, it's obvious to ramos and levy that we need a DM and a CB more than anything. ps: andy gray is a twattox

According to wikipedia he's been a Rangers fan all his life. Interesting though to see that google places a blog titled "Does Andy Gray support the Scum" as first in the list when searching 'what team does andy gray support'.
Not paid much attention to him before tbh. Doubt I will from now on either.
He certainly seems to favour the scummers over anyone else in the PL.
I will be personally listening with intent when he commentates on a Spurs game and Luka plays a blinder. He'll jump on the bandwagon then!
Andy Gray has always been biased to the top 4 though - I always had him down as a Man U fan? I remember the other year him lambasting Zokora for THAT dive (and it was cringe worthy)... and yet when Ronaldo did it to us, a really blatant dive that earned Man U a penalty, Gray crowed about it calling it "clever play". Double standards ass wanker.
Spanish International Cesar Sanchez, is weighing up an offer from Tottenham Hotspur to take him to White Hart Lane from Real Zaragoza, according to reports in Spain.
Any truth in these rumours? Would much rather him as number two than Stephen Bywater, but I'm happy giving Alnwich and Jansson the chance.
KayBee
That dive from Zokora was disgraceful to the max!! We got a penalty from it though didnt we?? lol
Of all the things Zokora has done for us that has to be the best comedy value!

He said: 'One day Spurs are going to break into the top four but I don't see it happening this...I am sure Andy Gray is a Chavski fan. Full of himself. He's way off the mark with those comments. Paid to spew shite.
According to wikipedia he's been a Rangers fan all his life. Interesting though to see that google places a blog titled "Does Andy Gray support the Scum" as first in the list when searching 'what team does andy gray support'.
Not paid much attention to him before tbh. Doubt I will from...
The only current "top 4" club he ever played for was Chavski. That's why I guessed that. Either way, rampant scummer or chavski bummer, he's no friend of our club.
I don't see why we don't just pay the money. its not like he's that overpriced anyway. the reason we are the ones in the running to sign him is because his price is high so y r we complaining. he's 4m more than keane at the most and IMO he's twice as good. can't we just sell rocha, kpb, stalteri, ghaly etc to make up for the difference?

Stalteri and Ghaly, would probably require a cash incentive from Spurs to get shut of them.

Earlier this year, there was obviously a maverick controller in charge of Channel 4 or similar also ran channel with a hole to fill at 10am on weekdays.
Cue 'Through The Keyhole' meets 'Wacaday' with Harvey 'So Solid' parading through football personalities homes spouting inane banter and poking fun at the contents of their wardrobes.
The peak of this programme featured Mr Gray being handed a suit, tie and socks combination by Mrs Gray. "She always picks out my outfits", he meekly piped up. "I've no idea what looks good and what doesn't."
A truer word you have never said, Andrew.
See I dont think he is twice as good as Keane. Admiteddly he's better than that Irish bloke who used to play for us, but he's not a million miles better. I think alot of people have been caught up in the hype of the Euro's.
If you took a straw poll I'm sure alot of football fans would admit to have not heard about him before the the Euro's or even before the Uefa Cup Final.
I mean if he was as amazing as everyone believes then why has he not been heard of until his 28th birthday??

Should Berba be shipped out? Is Bent the new Greaves? How did JJ get player of the tournament? Is Gio the new Ginola? etc, etc.

Through a series of unfortunate events, I managed to miss virtually every single game due to working late, barbecues various, and even some relations at one point.
I like what I've seen of Jonny Twos, Handsome Bale, and this new guy, Bent.
I'm also literally quite partial to Jamie Redknapp. He always looks so natty. And his wife looks quite nice. I would like to have them round for tea.
I have grave reservations over Arshavin myself, but hasn't Ramos been following him since he was at Sevilla? I'd much rather we invest all our efforts into landing David Villa, although it'd take all Ramos & Levy's combined powers (plus maybe a couple of heavies, a gun, and a baseball bat) to make that particular move happen. Still, if Ramos rates him, who am I/who are we to second guess the great man?

Twice as good as Pointy (how is that measured exactly?) I'd put my money on him in a gurning championships. 'Go on son, have a bit of a run around first and the cup's ours'.
According to the ruskies, he has been heard of before now. The below, taken from a smoothbum fansite, blames it all on Chavski moneybags Abramovich.
"Andrei Arshavin somewhat disappeared from the headlines following the 2003 season as the Russian billionaire, Roman Abramovich, entered the football world acquiring ownership of CSKA Moscow. Abramovich’s millions were utilised to fund the transfers of many highly skilled up and coming football talents....stunting the growth of native Russians as Brazilians and Italians graced the Russian Football League.
However in December 2005 Gazprom, seized control of FC. Zenit St. Petersburg. In May, 2006 the market value of the Russian state run gas giant Gazprom has soared to more than $300 billion, making Gazprom the world’s third-largest company. This financial backing was of fundamental importance to FC. Zenit, as it enabled them to rebuild their team, spending one hundred million in a rebuilding process on both team and stadium. Consequently Arshavin developed playing alongside great talents, similar to that of himself."
Agree on the redknapps front. He is literally a very nice bloke and his wife is literally smoking. I bet they do a great BBQ.
Feel so very sorry for you missing the games mate. If only i could pass u on my SKY+ recordings!
And yes. JJ got player of the tournament. I am still thinking that this was some kind of hide and seek tournament that was played laterally with the jubileum tournament!

I was wrong. I thought Abramovitch had ties to CSKA Moscow, where Jarosik was before being linked to Chelsea. I had no idea about any Zenit connections. Also thought since installing Hydynck he had his eye on younger talent coming up.
It wouldn't happen in England because we invented the game and are proper high profile, but you can sort of see it happening ... Foreign investors saturating the league with money and demanding international stars, how are the home grown talents supposed to get a look in?
Perhaps because he's a shy boy, and didn't want to kick up a fuss/alert the mafia - he's just one of those who didn;t fare to well when carlos and his kickaball mates discovered oodles of roubles.
Saw a bit of Zent v FC Moscow, and he is actually quite good. Decent pace down the left where they play him. I can imagine that with his natural talents, he would actually suit the Ramos style quite well.
Mind you, saw Sevilla vs Locomotive and Capel was a monster down that left flank.

dont care about andy gray.
what concerns me is this comedy Archibald fella. Is it true that he has managed to incorrectly predict the medicals of Arshavin, Ferdinand and Dunne, whilst not mentioning the fact that David Bentley was shacked up in our medical room for 3 weeks?
I think he needs some new voices in his head.

And then I got banned for calling him a cunt, repeatedly, when it surprise surprise didnt happen. where is the logic in that?

Tale of Two Medicals 24 June - 30 July 2008
-- Bentley had Medical without incedent on 24th of June.
-- Things get complicated. BB and Spurs disagree agree on transfer price. Former wanted 19mil latter offered 9. Then Robbinson thrown in the mix.
-- Meanwhile while going back and forth, Bentley injures his hamstring in training.
Keane tranfer to Liverpool accurs giving Spurs extra spending money. Seperate deal worked out for Robbo.
2nd Medical occurs to make sure he's not done any deal-breaking damage.

As much as I hate gray i share SOME of his Pecisim. I wouldn't of put it so bluntly the wanker but every pre-season I have been in the Optimist Club and thought "this is the season"
I think some of us are getting carried away and a lot of people I have spoken to are pinning their hopes on a 19yr old. I for one hope I am soo wrong. Um...... Let's see...... I agree with the odd poster on here that the players we've bought are of quality but as we've replaced so many, the jury's out as to whether Wendy will combine them quick enough to mount an attempt at top 6 let alone top 4. If Berbs goes there's definately a question mark over where goals will come from, Bent aside.
Andy Grey is and always will be a twat but I'm with JGM on that one; don't care.
And cheers for the friendly clips Harry.
see the vedran corluka link would be a great move. LINK
Cheers Hazza, will try that.
Also, when I posted my 2nd comment, it immediately followed my first. Then when I refreshed, yours popped up in between?
Crazy spanish
Tottenham Hotspur were last night on the verge of agreeing a £6.8 million fee to sign Vedran Corluka, which would take their spending on players this summer to more than £50 million.
The Croatia defender was used at right back by Manchester City last season, but Tottenham believe that he can replace Ledley King in the long term as a central-defensive partner for Jonathan Woodgate.
Corluka’s proposed move is not without complications, but it is likely to go through. City are willing to sell a player who made 35 league appearances last season so that they can fund a move for a recognised right back.
Out of the blue much? Heard any of this Harry?
Well I remember reading in a broadsheet(are they still called that?) recently that we've spent 43 mil and made 39 mil so we're only 4 down. If we had 25 to 30 in the coffers to begin with........
More players plus Berba to stay anyone?
Sorry to labour Harry but incidently I use a couple of browsers anyway and mozilla updates itself. Should I take this subject to the forum? Just kidding. End of.
Useless post of the night:
"Preceded by
Jamie Redknapp
Tottenham Hotspur F.C. Captain
2005-Present: Ledley King
Succeeded by:
Incumbent "
In-come-Bent. So he'll be Tottenham's future captain. That's all the proof I need.
The Sunday mail reckon that derby's keeper, bywater, was on his way over when Wendy pulled the plug on the deal and wants real zaragoza's 36 year old keeper cesar sanchez who is allowed to leave for a nominal fee due to their relagation last season.
How long before Bently's captain?
He had 1 good game in the UEFA Cup and that was it for the tournament and then had 1 good game in the euros.
ok he has had a good season with zenit overall but in the great scheme of things i think he is a waste of money at £7 million and i would much rather have bent and berbs
eiva that or lets have 1 more go at david villa
Corluka would be a good signing. Was solid for City and Croatia last seasons.
Finally a defender.

Nice to hear that Bywater was on his way to finish off the deal that would see him come to Tottenham when Ramos pulled a plug on the whole thing. Ramos really does have things sussed.

i don't think we will see any more defeders being brought in this window Bruce..

Corluka might be in the cards
could Corluka interet indicate that Hutton's gout is festering towards the point of amputation?
I really don't have much to say. Just thought I'd drop by and browse the best spurs web chat site. Brandy is going down nicely and I feel good...I suppose now I'm here I may as well admit I thought Pavlyuchenko would have been a good buy.But from what I have read it's now goodbye! My son kept saying to me last season...give Bent a chance and he will score goals for us. I'm a little blinkered. I just love to watch the quality players do things with a ball that we could only dream about in the playground. But hey...my kids right...leave Bent up there to stick them in and lets see a more entertaining midfield...Modric,Bentley,Giovanni,Bale.
Anyway enough of this sort of thing(as Ted would say)I'm off for a nice cup of tea and to watch the telly. Or is that a bottle of brandy close by Father Jack...

Now do one, you weirdo.
The lastest on Berba is that he is very impressive about Spurs new players, and with Levy´s tactic to ManU has make Berba more possitive to stay, but he´s sad about that no more clubs have bid for him.
Spurs is talking with: 1 striker, 1 DM and 1 CB. Very high class on every on, the CB is even better than both King & Woodgate.
Corluka would be a good signing IMO. He can play at CB or RB and thus offers us veratility & cover. I was very impressed with him during the Euro's. Slightly worried that a move for Corluka means Hutton may be out for a while.

Perfect. Not to get picky - but is this all made up, or are there any sources? Would be great to get a quote from Berba saying this. CB is Collocini, or Corluka or other? Better than King/Woodgate? Hard to believe. Really interested if true.

By reading the Sky Sports News article they quoted that Spurs could not offer Colloccini or Meira (Stuttgart - Galatasaray) the wages / packages other clubs offered them.
Corluka would be a good signing, Bilic, Sven, Micah Richards have all hailed him as one of the best RB/CB's in europe and at the age of 22/23 he sounds like a great acquisition.
Acoording to some reports, Spurs are ready to sell Berba to Man Utd to raise funds for a move for David Villa!
Man Utd are ready to sell Saha to Sunderland to finance the Berbatov move and I assume Spurs are waiting to get a signal of intent from David Villa before letting Berba go.
By replacing Berba with Villa, I'm pretty sure we would be replacing the best with one of the very best.

Don't see how he would complement Benty or Dos Santos anyway. Keep hold of Berbs! Arshavin is hardly a target man is he?
zenit's club comments this afternoon suggest a deal will be concluded.....apparently they quoted £19m to begin with though will meet spurs in middle at their offer of £14m. so £16m?
not sure why we are not looking at a centre back, perhaps there is little out there for us.
