Campbell Soup: No Option To Buy For Spurs

Well, I did my best to keep it a little more upbeat today but this surely has to be the last of the window blues. There can't be any more naff news.

THFC or rather Executive Director Paul Barber has been busy replying to emails various from Tottenham fans everywhere it seems.

Mine just arrived and I understand others got the same.

We have signed Frazier Campbell on a 12 month loan deal. We do not have a specific option to buy him at the end of the loan period.

We all need to remember that we also make loan arrangements with other clubs for our players fully expecting a promising young player to return to White Hart Lane.

So there you have it. Having viewed some You Tube footage he looks the part, but ait must be said all against pretty poor opposition. Now this.

I think we have to focus on the good that was done this window and move on from our car crash dealings with Manchester United.

I dont see what the problem is with him being on loan, if he does well this season Man Utd will reel him back in.

If we had bought him outright and he done well, we probably would have sold him to a big club next window anyhow! 8O

Who cares if he's going back to them, he'll have something to prove with us and in reality he's third choice in what will probably be a side playing one up front. Appreciate he'll be 2nd choice for UEFA cup but so what. We could have kept Peckhart but FC has been on loan in the championship and can prove he's good enough at that level. Peckhart ain't! Hopefully he'll get more minutes on the pitch at Saints than he would have done for us, prove he's a player and replace FC when he comes back. judging by what's been said it seems likely another striker will come in Jan so FC will then be fourth choice. I think we made the best of a bit of a balls up, for all we know JKH was all but done only to pull at the last minute, who can be blamed for that? i know, I know we should have sorted it earlier but I'm afraid the real world doesn't work like that all the time and if we were screwed at the last minute FC seems a decent backup striker in the meantime.

BIOYSOC! (my new sign off!)

Can we all just cheer up please?

Do I need to remind everyone we support the best team in the land, nay, the world?

Apparently so:

National records:
The first team to win the 'Double' of the FA Cup and Top Flight Championship in the 20th Century (1960-1961)
Most consecutive League victories from start of a top flight season: 11, (1960)
Most victories in a League season (31 out of 42 games in (1960-1961)
Most points in Division 2 season (2 points for a win): 70 (1919-20)
The only team to have won the FA Cup (1901) whilst being a non-league club
The first British team to win a European title European Cup Winners Cup (1963).
The first team to win the League Cup at the New Wembley (2007-08)
Fastest ever Premier League goal scored - after 9.7 seconds by Ledley King against Bradford City in 2000
British record of eight consecutive victories in major European competition

European records
The first ever team to win the UEFA Cup (1972)

for all you source-monkeys out there, yes I c&p's this from Wikipedia for speed.

Even if he does stay on, it's a lose/lose situation.

If he stays and is crap, we ship him off.
If he stays and is good enough to lodge an offer, he'll be x times more expensive than he is now because his performances this season will have affected his value.

I said it before but here with a few less swear words. What can Campbell give us that young pekhart or barcham can't give us? Why sell a player to utd and then agree to blood their youngsters at the same time. MENTAL. We should feed him on a diet of booze, fags, and kebabs and send him back a year or six short of fitness.

Secondly, whilst I envy your getting that level of personal service from the Spurs board. Does the fact he's bothering not suggest a modicum of guilt for what has transpired?

Fresh from the delightful back and forth on the previous thread, i've been inspired to get meself a brand spanking new profile, makin me all official like.

Right, let's start going militant with some opinions.

Erm... Leave the kid on the bench unless an emergency arises. Maybe the deal was £25m after all, assuming that if he plays, we'll add £5m to the boys value by the time we give him back. I thought we'd had the last laugh. Not so it would appear.

It's all about the positives, much better 'squad' than this time last year.

He's just come through their youth system so he'll be earning cock all (in football terms) and would cost less than most even as 3rd choice. I bet even Rasiak was on more money! 9 months or so wages isn't going to be a problem.

Campbell dropped down to the championship and looked very good (Hull offered £7m for him!). Pecker hasn't done it even at this level and would be a bigger gamble, he'll get his chance at Saints this year. Barcham - I doubt he'll ever be good enough even at Championship level.
Blood their youngsters, we needed someone and he'll be a back up!

Secondly yes, I think they are as gutted as we are that another striker didn't come in and I think admitting it only proves as much.

so what! he's a stop gap who'll only play when needed. We don't want him after Jan (hopefully) or at worst Summer as we'll (hopefully be signing a top notch striker or Pecker turns out to be sh1t hot for saints and we have him back.

Yup, my thoughts, we don't want him long term. I think we got screwed at the last minute on another striker (JKH?) and basically tried to get a 3rd striker in. Luckily Heskey, Cole, Doyle etc didn't happen. I think we said Berba can't go as we've only 2 strikers to which they said you can borrow FC for the year. We get rid of Berba and do not have as big a hole up front as we would have. Come Jan we try again to get a top notch front man (although it's not easy especially as Citeh will be chucking money about as well as Chavski who'll be p*ssed cos of Robinho).

Harold,

including you, me, and my Mum, we have 3 signatures already. As we speak, I have my lawyers researching the Premier League rulebook to determine if they can take action over a kidnapping even if a member club does not complain. Transfers - September 2008
The transfer window is now closed for permanent signings and will reopen on 1 January 2009.

In the Football League, once seven days have passed since the closing of the summer transfer window on 1 September, loan deals are permitted.

In addition, players who are unattached free agents, and were not registered with a club when the transfer window closed on 1 September, are able to join new clubs.

It was Jan Klass Huntelaar mate,

Im just deeply saddened by this whole saga not having at least an option to him just makes it even worse,

Im holding on to what little hope i can that we've got at least 1 decent agreement with someone for a January transfer that goes through January first and that's all we do in that window, would really prefer it to be JKH over AA as he's gonna be completly shot and useless for a good couple of weeks.

I have to agree with the earlier comment about guilt from the board, ive never heard of them answering emails before with personal comments.

Juande Jaunde, so good to me,
Juande Ramos, you were all I hoped you would be
Oh Monday morning, Monday morning couldn't guarantee
That Monday evening you would still be here with Dimi.

Monday Monday, can't trust that day,
Juande Juande, sometimes it just turns out that way
Oh Monday morning, you gave me no warning of what was to be
Oh Monday Monday, how could you sell and not replace dimi.

It's the best I could do. Crap but it'll do.... bit like our striker policy....

Spot on, Whilst thoughts of any class of 'agreement' for the next window with ZSP are fantasy - if there were one it ought be that he only plays as many games as King does.

Hopefully we wont get caught out for the umpteenth window in a row in January.

The club should be negociating now with whoever (agree not Arshavin), to come in on Jan 1st 2009. We could agree a fee, even pay some up front for whoever we want, with an injury clause for money to be returned if that happens.

OK, some of our supposed targets may have gone elsewhere, but we cant afford to get caught again. Ramos & Comolli must have a shortlist.

Excellent work hartlane2000! Does this mean we can all make public the secret hope of landing a player(or two) on loan..hmmm....

Hope so.

At the very least it means the ITKs can find 'gainful' employment raising our hopes again, only to dash them later with a cyber-shrug of the shoulders and a professorial 'Anything can happen' caveat.

Ginge1 with all due respect mate there are players out there who we could have signed, Arshavni a terrible example but also others mentioned(over and over again)on these pages: Thiago Neves on the left, Kompany, Falcao, Palacio and a few others.

My point is that positive thinking is perfect but sometimes you must admit when you've made a balls-up...and this is one of those occassions/ Perhaps a combination of Levy's hard-nosed negotiations or Commolli's incompetence.

Either way we got f*cked over bad this window...so now all we can hope for is for The Dazzler and Pavlyuchenko to rip it up in the Prem this year(dont care much for Campbell but goals are goals and I may change my mind if he's a talent!)

By the way Harry that Gunter interview that you lifted from SO had the desired effect of galvanising my spirits(partly my inner shop-lifter I suspect!). It's incredible always to hear from the inside - where all hype is left to us fans and the business of FOOTBALL(not profit)and The Team is fundamental.

Ginge1, what i'm trying to say, probably not very clearly, is that I want to see more deals that have the timing of Modric about them (i.e. announced before the window is open) rather than those with the desperation of Andy Booth & Rasiak.

Also, why do we sell at the last possible moment, e.g. Defoe & Berbatov. I dont think it's healthy to do that unless the player is totally not wanted, such as an underused squad player.

How did we get fucked over? By the sound of it we only missed out on a striker, I know most of us would like a DM but again did Wendy want this. Being one player short of what we need and getting top dollar for two players who wanted out how is this getting f*cked over?

Because if we'd have sold Berba any earlier we'd have got about £10m less! Its called good negotiating!
In an ideal world we'd have signed all our players prior to pre season training, this is what Wendy stated in the summer, surely this means that was what we were trying to do.

Sorry but the art of good negotiation skills is a win / win situation. We did not end up with a win with the last minute Berbatov deal.

With all due respect to Fraizer Campbell & the extra £10m in the clubs coffers, neither are a win.

None of us know what happened for sure but outside of the Man Utd 'kidnapping' THFC had months to sort this out and they were either subject to incompetence or bad luck or worse still ... a bit of both.

Like I said previously, not Levy's finest hour but he will know that and moreover be acutely aware that pointing at others won't wash.

Bent, bizarrely I really do feel could go nutrs in the UEFA. He was superb against just about everyone in the preseason and that's the quality that awaits him.

Frazier/Fraser/Fraiser is an irrelevance. A stick to beat the board with but not worth fretting over.

Crazy Paving will be an absolute f*cking menace. I'm convinced we need an Arshavin type player in front of Modders, but in the interim we'll just have to throw more midfielders - Gentley and Two Saints at them.

Blimey.

So what happens if we sell Berba for £24m, Fergie thinks were soft and we still can't get Hunts, AA etc.... we're in the same position come deadline day, £10m less in our pockets and no FC. In that situation we end up with a Rasiak or Booth!

£10m is not to be sniffed at boys most of our signings this summer cost less than this! If we could have brought a striker in earlier i'm sure we would have. None of us have any knowledge of how these things work fully.

I've been sat in a solicitors office at midnight trying to sort a deal out with a customer, his lawyers etc for millions of £ only for it to fall through at the last minute. The deal was cast iron and took ages and screwed my target for the year. If I could of made it work I would, if I could have done it earlier I would. Not the same as football but the point is some things you have no control over and all the skilled negotiation in the world won't always work.
This transfer window has told me one thing, Levy is not to be F*cked with, remember Fergie was never going to pay over £24m. Do you think he'll be keen to deal with us again. We've pulled his pants down twice over fees (although he's had our best players but that is out of our hands!)

Agree, and I think Levy & Co are gutted with how it panned out. Agree with the AA type as well. just think guys if Hunts would have signed at mid-night what would the overall thoughts on the transfer window be? One bit of bad luck and its all doom and gloom!

I think it was more likely the Man City situation that forced the price up by a few million. Berbatov has also said that City situation delayed the deal by about 3 hours. Could we have done something else with those extra few hours, who knows.

I also heard today that supposedly we tried to sign Kevin Doyle last minute, but Reading wouldn't answer the phone.

And therein perhaps, lies the rub as they say in some 3rd floor rooms in Berwick Street.

Fergie did indeed pay through the eyeballs. Levy & Co spent all the next day shovelling the naughty money into the vault.

And the Sweaty then stands back and watches Carrick raise the silverware.

So yer both right, chaps.

I have just read the statement on the official site, and on reflection I think the board have done a great job this summer. Yes they loaned out Pecker, but they can always recall him if need be. The club (and most of us fans) were banking on the signing of Smooth bum. But the deal fell through because of a doggy, greedy russian agent. (a bit 007ish!!) I believe the board are just as dissapointed as us. Our squad in all other departments is brilliant. We can get plenty of goals from midfield and re-inforce up front in Jan. If Campbell scores goals and we send him back....so what? He has done his job, and we will get a world class striker to replace in Jan. Trust me, the board will be working on this now.
We have the foundations to be up in the top four.

Have faith my fellow Spurs!!

Anyone else watching Wisla Krakow? Decent picture but the commentator is making no effort whatsoever to speak in English.

Do you think Juande knows it's on? Anyone got his mobile no. and can text him P2P instructions in Spanish?

Yea, Wis down 1-0. Muahahahahahha, break their spirit WKS Slask Wroclaw, breik their spirit...

to be honest i think everyone is losing the point over the Utd/berbatov shit.

at the end of teh day kidnapping or not we got the asking price for him. Underhand, overhand, wombling free we all expected him gone come midnight on the 1st.

I really dont care he went, we got 31m or whatever,

likewise keane. 20m = 50+m in revenue.

what fucks me off is that come teh expected we were unprepared and end up begging utd for a kid.

be angry. but be angry at us not at utd. they are doing what we should have been doing, whatever is necessary.

levy out.

arabs in.

Can anyone shed any light on if we are still able to sign any players on loan or get anyone in on a free transfer now the window has closed? Obviously we can’t buy anyone but maybe there is someone out there with European experience who isn’t cup tied that we could try to bring in...

...

was thinking about that myself not sure what the answer is but best guess is yes as we are looking to loan KPB to Brum according to reports .. maybe Stalteri and the other forgottens will follow

the rules allow only out of contract players or players who buy themselves out of their contracts......thats why henrik laursen was being touted, we should persue in my opinion

oh and football league clubs can keep loans coming in 7 days after the transfer window has shut, hence why KPB can go to Brum

None of us know what happened for sure but outside of the Man Utd 'kidnapping' THFC had months to sort this out and they were either subject to incompetence or bad luck or worse still ... a bit of both.

Like I said previously, not Levy's finest hour but he will know that and moreover...

Agree, and I think Levy & Co are gutted with how it panned out. Agree with the AA type as well. just think guys if Hunts would have signed at mid-night what would the overall thoughts on the transfer window be? One bit of bad luck and its all doom and gloom!

a very good point for a strawberry blond ;)

seriously, it was as tight as that, one signing which they thought was nailed on and 50% of us fans are grumpy as f*ck.

I just seen an article on NN from thespursweb calling for ENIC & Gen Levy to get out, that made me kin angry and kin emailed them and kin told them they were a bunch of C**TS for even suggesting it.....now i know how JGM feels

The General D. Levy must stay and keep fighting til the end. I wouldn't mind seeing a new director of football installed though. I remain very very suspicious of his value. Hurts more than helps it seems.

Its more than that for me. I started going as kid. Its where I grew up. I started supporting them when they were in 2nd division. I was never tempted like some of my mates where to support Liverpool and ManUre because they were winning and we were looking flash but winning Fu*K all.

I always preferred punk over pop.

i predict by 2010 these multi billionaires will have lost interest in either chelskum, citeh, QPR etc etc and football will be in a right mess......what would happen to any of these clubs if their owners just said, fuck it, its F1 for me now.................give me a stable balanced board (except Comolli perhaps) any kin day

Plus we wouldnt be able to laugh at chelscum when they win stuff....how empty do they really feel, i didnt feel that when we won the Carling and still feel fuckin proud

Agree, would rather make Top 4 without buying a spot.

Though with our spending (and others around us) it seems we have to buy our way in anyway. The perception of the owner only lends it to the clubs apparent ambitions, meaning a blank check every year...will stop at nothing till they win, etc.

Might be easier if we didn't have to risk money on unproven players every window, hoping they are class, then hoping they will stay long enough to take us to the promised land.

Rather some (corrupt?) Arab's with deep pockets, than some in debt American owners, or an owner on the run from the law.
