Chelsea Away - The PreMatch Prattle

Sunday, 31 August 08, 03:00 AM · Comments (41)

According to statisticians various, we haven't beaten Chelsea away on our third game of the season since 1634.

What is true is that this going to be a fraught afternoon. We travel dragging the emotional deadweight of Berbatov and in the full and certain knowledge everybody (at Sky) expects us to lose.

It would of course be magnificent if the charmless Bulgarian nurk were to play his socks off for his remaining games. But then he isn't a magnificent man. Just another no mark passing through. Yes an occasionally wonderful player, but as a man fundamentally lacking in the minerals that would have set him apart from others. To paraphrase Wendy - Mitka has me 'reasonably furious'.

Chelsea will be looking to send out two clear messages. That Tottenham are still light years from being genuine top four material and that Second Hand Fridge is still a fortress. They may well succeed in with both. It is not just well but over documented that Levy & Co. are still furiously attempting to repair the damage. We are six points adrift as a result. Today may make that nine.

So our biggest hurdle is us not them. That would be nice if it were entirely true.

Which means we're looking to break into Chelsea via Modric, Johnny Two Saints and Gently Bentley. Bent will obviously start and all that can be done is to light a small candle and wait and see how he gets on. Expect King to be wheeled out for at least 60 minutes.

Place Yer Bets. Well the good news (based upon my opening sentence) is that there is money to be made here if Spurs win. 26/1 for a 0-1 and 41/1 for 1-2 with Blue Square. Come back Kings amongst you might fancy Paddy Power's enticing offer of 91/1 for Chelsea half time, Tottenham full time. My prediction, a  blindly optimistic 2-2 draw is as good as a provocative 26/1 with Coral.

Some say the secret of comedy is timing.

Did anyone else notice that the Pav signing was announced as we officially went bottom of the league?

What a pill.

The league is upside down! Seriously, all we can hope is that Chelski are lulled into a false sense of security and the newbies can blend in today. It seems we are destined to be a cup team again this year, great in big games but not bothered for what some of our boys seem as boring and not really stimulating for them, which has cost us dear for many a year, and get a result. I'm keeping away from it, and will wince as I look for the result. Maybe, just maybe, I'll be able to watch it on MOTD tonight, here's hoping! COYS!

What an absurd article! Not sure how you expect people to see any sense or truth in anything you say if ur opening line dates a football match at 1634?

Just face it that today will be a hard game and there is a very likely possibility that you'll have your worst start to a premiership campaign in a good few years.

Suddenly Martin Jol looks like a great manager to me!

:? Its gonna be tough to watch. I feel we have the ability to steal a point, but honestly thing we will end up 9 points a drift. This will hammer our confidence big time, put all the players under increasing pressure and make it hard to get that first win. If we get to that stsge, the players will be to play like England - quality players that are too scared of losing instead of player to their best abillity. I really hope we get a result today. COYS

Comedy timing and sleight of hand.

Get us all looking in one direction while our hopes are being filched in the other.

Oh, and then treat us to another example of said comedy timing: he flies in, he signs, he flies out. Just before a massive derby. Unavoidable? Actually, yes - had business been concluded sooner, rather than protracted over paragraphs of penny-saving clauses. Who is saving here? It looks like short-term gain for long-term loss. It will certainly look that way if we fail to hit top four or five by six (or nine) points.

No. Instead, we recruit reinforcements we painfully need via a process that disenables us from deploying them in the desperate first instance we need them. Perfect. Comedy. Timing.

So, as model protagonists of synchronised humour, I predict we'll maintain our good form and deliver an unexpected 2-0 win today.

As perfect comedy timing goes, that would give us all a good laugh.

Will be hoping for a honest performance from our lads today after the opening two games shambles that have been poor to say the least.
Optimism aside, a point will be a great result, given recent events on and off the pitch.
Maybe a quality performance from our Mr Bent will ease the pressure off our top goalscoring midfield general dynamo JJ.
HHHmmmmmmmmm I wonder.

Brez "Will be hoping for a honest performance from our lads today". With an honest performance we will win fuck all. If you haven't got the experience, you're CV is going to look shit and you won't get that job. If you find a designer wallet in the street packed with black amex, platinum visas, and a fat wad of ÂŁ50 notes - by all means hand the wallet into the nearest police station, but make sure its a fair wad lighter. You're not going to get a thank you that big and could be the difference between your rent and the street. If you fall over in the box and there was slight (if not the actual cause of the fall) contact then drop like a sack and hold your face like you've been hit like a double decker (the bus not the choccy bar).

I know its not a particularly charitable thing to say, especially on the Lords day, but you can go to confession again next sunday. Professional football is just that - professional. If a free kick can be won, win it. If a chavski player can get sent off, get them sent off. We could make a jolly good show, or we could try our damdest to get all 3 points. We have first to be honest with ourselves and realise that the only way we should play this game, is by stopping them playing theirs.

you're CV (am I really?) was meant to be your CV - I hate it when people don't know the difference between your and you're, their and there, etc. I hate it even more when I do it myself. But not as much as I hate the Chavskis, and no where near as much as I hate Ar5ena1 plebs.

To cap it all I'm preparing myself to lose even more points through Baler, Bentley and Gio :\

Two games in...

and two games lost...

and for all the same ol' reasons...

No defensive midfield cover leaving the back four over exposed every time... and trust me... Terry and partner, Rio and partner...they'd suffer the same under the same circumstances... Dawson didn't become a crap defender over night... we just ain't providing the comfort blanket that all the top clubs know is essential to not losing - which is far more important than winning if you're not doing the latter on a regular basis... and the bastard thing is...the solution we already have...someone who's willing to break through walls ala Graham Roberts... someone who wears the cockeril with pride... stick O Hara in the DM slot... it might not happen over night but he will make it is own... because he wants it... which is something you don't always get whether you pay 10m, 15m or even 25... I come from Tottenham, live in Holland and it's been shocking to watch how far we've fell since the sale of Carrick... by not replacing him or Davids we relinquished the keys to consistency... anyway...team for today...
Gomes
Gunter, King, Woodgate, Bale
O Hara
Bently Jenas Modric
Gio/Lennon
Bent

It'd be damn nice to have the sulky bulger playing but unless he's staying it ain't gonna happen... and as for the rest...they need to start pulling their fingers out of their anal cavaties and start showing that it means the fucking earth to be given the privilege of pulling on the lilywhite shirt... I don't mind losing, even if it does increase the levels of shit I have to take over here... If we can play like we did against sunderland for fifeteen minutes six times... we'll have ninety minutes of football in which we at least know they're attempting to earn the extra wages all those ticket price raises paid for... and that includes you Ramos...
