Chimbonda Vendido!

Monday, 07 July 08, 05:11 AM · Comments (114)

So farewell then Pascal.
"No one here can love and understand me", well I think we did, once, old son. We just ran out of the capacity to do either around about the same time...

Your list of good deeds in the Lilywhite shirt stands, but the good was often soured by infuriating runs that caused little but leaving you hugely out of position. I won't bang on, you know when and why it all came undone.

Valencia bless'em are apparenly stumping up the £8 million that will allow Hutton to take over.  The Spaniards are said to be, and I make no apoplogy for using accountancy jargon here... 'up to their knickers in debt', yet this morning this story breaks in the British press as does another in the Spanish that David Villa is likely to be offered a monster new contract to keep him there.

So a tremendous bitta business by Levy & Co. if this goes through. There's no two ways about it. Chimbonda arrived as a Premier League Dream Team player. He will leave thanked for much of his work at The Lane but will the need to re~invent himself as a more disciplined force if he is to do more than survive. For that lolly they'll be expecting more than hit and miss far post headers.

I cannot believe the fee... £8m!?
Only a few weeks ago, the media were saying he would go for as little as £2-5m, so if this is true i will be delighted.

It will also prove that Levy and Spurs are no mugs, and that they know how to drive a hard bargain.

JamieSpurs mentioned in a previous post the £6 million deal/robbery with Boro for Mido. If the £8 million deal for Chimbomba (as Pleat would have it) is true, Levy must be going into these deals with serious Kenny Craig eyes LINK or a gun.

It won't be anywhere near £8m up front though and I doubt it'll ever get close, but just seeing the back of the glove-wearing in August berk will make me happy.

More importantly though Harry - what news on Bentley? I may be silly and believe everything you say but I'm starting to doubt...

Like i said earlier there is no doubt that Levy is a shrewd businessman. Whats great to know is that he has Tottenhams best interests at heart.

If its true and we get £8m for Chimbo it will be an outstanding deal! it will recoup nearly the whole £9m fee we paid for Hutton in January and free up £8m to buy in a CB or put towards the Bentley deal.

Now Levy has his man in charge (Ramos) he will give him the funds to spend. Ramos looks like he has told Commoli where to go with regards to some transfers. I heard that in the January window that Comolli suggested 9 players to Ramos who looked at the list and said NO to all 9!! Choosing to only bring in Hutton, Woodgate and Gilberto (defensive reinforcements)

Now Ramos has been given the reigns we will no longer have the type of disagreements seen so frequently under Jol and Comolli.

Is Chimbonda the start of the cull?

HH liked your post on the Albelda blog about Ramos giving Steed and TT alot more minutes. They both remind me of Poulsen when Ramos was at Sevilla. Poulsen was not the outstanding creative force or the stand out player of the side. He was a player who knew his job inside out and he stuck to that, never venturing outside of his essential duties and his consistency in the middle of the park gave Sevilla something to build from. Lets hope Steed and TT can step upto the plate and do the business this season.

he did good for us - but as said harry, he caused alot of grief.

£8m is pretty large fee considering he is what near 30 and also valencia are in debt (supposedly). where they are getting theyre cash from?

u know what would be interesting...if we were looking at a player swap...abelda...joaquin...

chimbo is on way less weekly wages than a majority of valencia stars, so i'd rather see us swindle and exchange for a position we're in need of - ie RW/LW, DM, or CB - Marchena anyone??

Good point about Marchena! I thought that he was the better central defensive player during Spains Euro2008 campaign. Wwould e very interesting to see how much Valencia value him at.

Have to say though if we are goin to get £8m for SHIMBOMBA (god bless david pleat)then I would be inclined to take the money and run!!

I cannot wait to see Chimbo wearing gloves and tights in the august Valencia weather!!!

On the Chimbo discussion, bearing in mind the media were talking rubbish about him going to Prem club for a 2m quick sale, to get 8M for him is a class bit of business by Levy!

Hopefully the 1st of many that need to be shhipped out.... Robbo, Daws, Kaboul, Tony.G, Rocha, Stalteri, Boateng, Zokora & maybe even Bent.

As soon as I saw the story this morning i was SURE that we'll be signing someone from Valencia very soon. Hopefully Albelda.
We definately wont be signind Joaquin, why would we put a statement out yesterday saying Lennon is staying, then buy Bentley and then go for Joaquin, dont make sense having 3 players fighting for one spot.
Its obvious JR wants to buy Capel or someone else for the left stop so I think Bentley will be playing on the right.

Can not wait for the Norwich game.

IF (the Daily Mirror and Daily Mail are to be believed and) Valencia are prepared to pay £8m or even Euros8m (and I were Levy) I'd bite their hand off somewhere just above the elbow.

In short, he is not a team/Spurs player.

It's all been said: he’s technically competent and started brightly, then in crept his infamous and largely fruitless forays forward at inopportune moments. And when we/Dawson needed his experience most, to help ‘lead the line’ in the early part of last season, he went and hid in the corner, the opposition’s.

Perhaps there is a lesson to be learnt, the manner in which he treated his former employers when he heard of our interest should have perhaps rung alarm bells; His reaction to Hutton’s arrival was unprofessional as it was when substituted in the Carling Cup Final, expecting us to lose.

Cheerio Pascal, have a nice life.

The only sour point is that he has always seemed the closest to Berbatov so who'll cheer up our moody main man now?

Moneynick.

I agree, at 8 million Valencia would definitely be paying over the odds. Particularly as we have already clearly got a replacement - a better one - for him.

However, there was a period when Chimbonda was touted as one of the best right-backs in the leage. Very strong, quite fast, doesn't lose the ball (often), a good-tackler and exceptional at heading. Basically very solid. Chelsea were reported to be interested in him a season or two ago - 10 million. And I would say Jose M knows a good player when he sees one.

Certainly worth well over the 2-3 million that was originally being reported. He came to Tottenham for 5 million and has not been a disappointment at all.

Harry. I'm not liking these Aston Villa-Bentley rumours that are flying around. Surely he wouldn't go there. I'll accept they have a couple of exciting players but they are so far off being a great team. Surely he wouldn't go there.. surely.

HH: you normally back up your articles saying that you have some inside news but I notice that you do not do this here - are you just relying on the bloody Daily Mirror and simply commenting here? I also find the GBP8m hard to believe, especially coming from Valencia who are short of cash and have admitted that they have to sell one of their bankable stars (the latest outgoing name being mentioned being Joaquin, with the club holding on to Villa and Silva).

I'd be glad to see Chimbonda go since we not only have Hutton but decent young cover in Gunter. GBP8m is not as unrealistic as some say but sounds quite good compared to the ridiculous 2-3m being mentioned in the press recently.

I'd also some to see some sort of swap, maybe for Poulsen.

Joe Lewis is the second richest owner in the premier league. Despite the fact he lost around 500 million (estimate, give or take 100 million, ha) when Bear Sterns fell under. Tottenham have been very conscious of not publicising this to openly to avoid inflated pricing. This is why - or one of the reasons why - all business goes through Daniel Levy. That is also why most business at chelsea goes through Kenyon.

They've been very shrewd though. Tottenham are still one of the few clubs to make a profit. The company is in the hands of some shrewd business men. Thats why we're the YIDS.

See we've sold Forecast...Didn't see that coming (sorry) Will we get another GK? I'd like to see a Number 2 with a little experience to be honest!!!
I'll be glad to get rid of Shimbomba, he was great in his first season, since then he's been as bad as a one-legged man in an arse-kicking contest. A total liability with his aspirations of Right Wing glory! £8m would be one of the best bits of business any club has done since Southampton managed too offload Dean (Marco? Polo?) Richards for £8.1m to us!

Chimbo doesn't deserve Valencia. It was a great city when I was there about 16 years ago. Gorgeous girls, fantastic vibe. And (even better than doughnuts) churros.

8 million quid would be a stunning exchange, from our point of view. But maybe the figure is - like the 16.5 million we paid for Bent - a bit fluid.

Excellent news. Would eulogise about Chimbonda's "dismissal" more if I thought the guy was a decent human being. But I can't be arsed, other than that just to say - £8 million? Sweet.

Very small pub, Harry. Good atmosphere. A few yids drink there. Bar on the right. Maybe you walked in backwards... 8O

Barring Modric, our targeted players have 'difficult' relationships with their clubs. Dos Santos wants regular football. Gomes and Albelda have disputes with their chairmen/president/coach. Each already has a motive to leave his club and arrives at Spurs hungry (we hope) to excel.

Is there a CB somewhere that - as well as being any good - is at odds with his employee?

Does anyone know what is Chimbo's situation regarding that police enquiry? Last I read of it he was released on bail.

Would bail conditions allow him to move to Valencia?

new writer here

great chat, keep it up.

personally very chuffed with the current squad.
we've improved well, there's some deadwood that needs to be shipped no doubt (pascal, tt, lee y-p, tony g etc.). I'm not convinced by the rumours of medicals etc. but fancy we'll get Bentley. After that i'm satisfied.
Of the targets we've been linked with: -
I dont like the chat about capel, he's a busy body like aaron, buzzes around but will not give us anything more than steed offers. Podolski has a cracking strike on him, thats it. does he even have a position?
And albelda? the guy has some class but lets not forget how slow the game is in spain compared to the prem. can we really expect him to come in at 33 and offer something?
My ever so humble opinion is that this obsessive need for a defensive midfielder (DMC or whatever we're calling it) is a bit of a myth. Granted time has shown that a vieira, keane, makelele etc can lead a team but look at last season, united usually played with scholes and carrick, and the scum with fabregas and flamini. None of those fit say the Davids mould of player. If we can get a World class player of that type (which Albelda certainly is not) then great. But there arent many around so i'll take the variety of tommy, jj, didier and luka. For me that'll do

Not now, Harry. Maybe it did back then. Now it has photos of old London. Straight down Fashion St past the Ten Bells down to Brick Lane. Turn right, then first left into Heneage St.

Crouch Vale's great when it's on. When it's off, I just stare at the hand-pump.

Exactly what the boys in HR are currently looking for. A heady cocktail of intent & bloody mindedness.

Fashion Street. Memory Lane. £60 Leathers made of of Buffalo hide. When they made'em the buffalos were hiding.

TT's a fan and a player. I'd like him to stay, but I suspect he'll be gone before long.

According to Wikipedia, he is a resident (as is Alan Curbishley) of Abridge. It adds, 'There is no train service from Abridge, though at one time a branch from Debden was proposed.'
