I cannot believe for one moment that after Spurs attacked Man Utd & LFC for tapping up our strikers that Spurs would give Bentley a medical weeks in advance of agreeing a deal with Blackburn. Imagine what Levy would do if Berbatov was in Manchester having a medical but THFC had not given permission to talk or agreed a fee.

Whilst you're basking in the glory of your utter smugness, can you PLEASE pass on some info on ANY DM's/CB's that might genuinly be on their way to the Lane?

It can't have escaped any long standing fan that at the start of every season we seem to sign the cream of the "emerging young attacking talent" and then spend the rest of the season watching the team let in almost as many as we score!! I appreciate we've gone some way to rectifying that with Woddgate, Hutton, Bale and young Chris (who I've watched at Cardiff City and firmly believe will be one of the best in the leauge before long) and also that if anyone can get Ledley fit for a prolonged period of time, Alvarez is the man. But looking round the rest of the table and the attacking talent on show, we've never needed a proper DM more than we do now. (and cover for Woody and King)

By the way, I believe Levy is in Russia putting Arshavin through his first medical today! Expect another one by the end of Ausgust, just before he signs! You heard it here first and I look forward to saying "I told you so" if i get lucky and we actually sign Arshavin.

On another note..... Team for tonight??? I feel Celtic will provide a tough test for us. Reports are that Celtic have plenty of walking wounded and no new faces in the camp either. However, they always try harder against PL sides and will be going all out to prove a point. Two (connected) factors come into play:

1) the length of the player's existing contract, that the new club is effectively buying the player out of
2) the length of the new contract the player is entering in to - in the case of Bentley (and Bent) it is 'up to' 6-yrs, i.e. 2-yrs longer than the usual term.

I think Bale is miles better than Gilberto. I watched the Norwich game the other night and Gilberto was the only player who didnt impress (bar Dawson but he got injured). Bale and Hutton are going to be huge assests to our style of play this year. Ramos seems to be building the side in the same mould of his Sevilla side, which relied on the fullbacks being athletic and have good crossing ability - Something both Hutton and Bale have. Bale is young and can learn to improve his defensive positioning and I think with J2S and AA/Capel being linked they will be the preferred LW options leaving Bale to bomb up the left and provide attacking threat from deep.

Bentley has been training with Blackburn in pre-season but pulled out of the games with "injuries" which i'm sure occured to not ruin his dream move to Spurs. So I think he will feature. He was at training with the rest of the squad yesterday so he must be fit enought to train. I hope he gets a run out or 15mins at least. Will be good to see the self styled "new Gazza!" lol

From a set piece Bale all the time, but I remained unconvinced whenever he was placed as a defender last term. With a strong 3 at the back (Woody King Hutton) Bale as a wing back, perfect - theres still protection. I just hope he doesn't neglect his defensive positional play.

I think Hutton is definitely not a CB. Living in Glasgow I speak to alot of Rangers fans and they say his best attributes are his attacking ability, crossing, shooting, pace & athleticism. They also said that they were surprised he played so well defensively for us last season.

I think if we get a top CDM and keep Woody and King fit then the Full backs can bomb on and attack. They have the speed to cover back and Modric can put his foot in when required the CDM will just ensure that we have 3 players ready to defend if needed.

What, now its impossible to have more than one medical? Things got sidetracked, time passed, then another medical at the time of the transaction. Seems logical.

The deal wasn't done on July 1st though was it? It went through almost a full month later - it was well known a deal was in the making, and the player favoured us (the same situation we have now with Arshavin). While I'm no scientist, it does seem plausible that Bentley was seen at a local hospital last month before his official 'seal the deal' medical this week. And if he wasn't, then still, all the more credit to the man who declared he's a yid before the news became official.

Off course it's possible. These things are often initiated well before the public catch on. A well known South American manager who now manages a London premiership side was at one of their home games earlier last season. He had a medical the same day. Players have general orthopaedic medicals and then another cardiovascular medical. Two different professionals carry these out, often the same day, sometimes not.

What i've found most hilarious about all these comments is that most people think harry really cares about what they think.

Never doubted you were wrong, tho was confused as to why the fee took so long, but coinciding (big word i know) with the keane transfer does shed a little light on this.

Also bentley himself said he'd been trying to get the transfer to happen for a few weeks on the phone to people which would suggest he may well of had discussions and a medical otherwise why would he manufacture a move that may never happen?
