This may shed some light on the physical condition of our grimacing goalie Gomes not only in previous games but this evening's... I think it's important that we don't just start making daft comparisons with Robinson and ought bring as many facts to bare before our supposed lack of confidence starts to effects his.
This injury sounds terrible.
"In training 2 weeks ago he was knocked out for 12 minutes.
A day later with sore ribs in addition, it was suggested that he might be out for a few weeks."
This from Wkdref a poster on Spurs Odyssey.
As far as his number two is concerned, the news isn't any better. It's Jannsen that has been training with the first team...
"Gomes has been playing for the last 2 weeks not fit because there are even bigger question marks about his stand in."
Ouch.
who did he clash with?cos he seems intent on going tru every player in the 1st team to get his own back.first corluka v stoke then he nearly takes the head off jenas tonight
Well that explains why it looks like he's going to split in half every time he makes a save and probably accounts for his diminished decision making.
When Gomes was first mentioned as a possible target, there was a YouTube Gomes reel doing the rounds. It showed a keeper who was impressive in coming for every cross...and then punching it away. It worried me at the time and it worries me now. Can this man not CATCH a ball?
i dont think it makes any difference that prat could catch a ball if he was fully fit, he needs to go asap another commolli signing that is absolutly diabolical 9 million to punch the ball every time its crossed into the box

If you come up with any more informed comments like that be sure to post them on 606 as fast as your articulate little fingers can manage it.
Gomes does concern me because he was at fault for 2 of their goals last night. If he is playing injured then for gods sake we must be able to get someone on loan to cover?!? It is rather confusing as to why the guy has Teflon gloves every game, punching is very much a part of a good goalkeepers repertoire if used in a timely fashion and at the correct moment. But not every time. Robbo is renound for flapping but he was capable of catching the ball once in a while! And as for the defence passing the ball back to Gomes..well that scares the bejesus outta me every time, you can see their not keen to give it back to him and then some confusion ensues and most likely a throw in. Which makes it worse. Some stability at the back wouldn't go a miss in January as well as a decent strike force..oh, and start Modric on the weight gain diet, he's still not strong enough in challenging for the ball
Gomes is great
His eraticism is surpassed by his brilliance. We'd have conceded a lot more goals without him than with (yes, with another keeper in between the sticks)
Modern goalkeepers punch the ball a lot.
The days have gone when Jennings, Clemence etc used to catch it more.
The problem is not getting to the ball!
Gomes was far better in the second-half. You can tell that he was spoken to about his erratic play. Much better after that. For the Arse's first goal he nearly took Jenas' head off!
I watched Gomes almost every week when he played for PSV Eindhoven and he was always commanding in the box, catching balls, punching when necessary and using his fantastic throwout technique to set up an attack on the break. He's obviously not up to par yet and could be nursing an injury but he will come good. Football is played differently in the premiership than the eredivisie in Holland where the pace and tempo are much lower and keepers have more space in the box. He needs time to adjust as the other imports do and I'm pretty sure that under Harry he will get the right coaching.
Interesting - at Stoke, and last night, he looks to be actually crying - perhaps this could explain it.
I felt with the whole Ramos 'thang' that the coach who was so quick to drop Robbo, and stated that 'keepers were the same as outfield players - it they didn't perform they would be dropped, seemed decidedly reluctant to put Caesar (yeah, yeah, I know) on the pitch.
These has to be a reason - because Gomes is not 'right' (whether injured or not).
Gomes has not saved us loads of goals, must of the great saves he has made have been to cover the fact he was out of position in the 1st place. How many times does he have to back track and drive back to flick a ball out? Looks good but if he was in position to start then he wouldnt need to do this
commolli has left us with some dead wood but harry will sort out the wheat from the chaff and i am sure he has pin pointed a keeper, right back plus holding midfielder ,keep the faith boys
ITS A NONE FACT THAT TO BECOME A GOOD GOALY YOU HAVE SHORT LOSS OF MENTAL POWERS THIS EXPLAINS WHY GOMES HAS GONE FROM SUPER KEEPER CALLED THE OCTAPUSS TO ONE CALLED AMIR KHAN HE LOOKED GOOD TILL HE GOT KNOCKED OUT. ONLY JOKING HARRY ,GOMES WILL BE A FANSTATIC KEEPER UNLIKE ROBBO HE WOULD ONLY EVER BE A SHOT STOPPER . HARRY NEEDS TO DO ONE THING TAKE SOME OF THE TRAFFIC OUT OF THE AREA AND LET GOMES KNOCK THE OTHER TEAMS PLAYERS OUT AND OVER THE WEEKS THERE WILL BE LESS AND LESS IN THE BOX I BET GOMES NEEDS TO SHOUT MORE AND WHEN HIS ENGLISH INPROVES SO WILL HE HE WILL BE A LEGEND ONE WAY OR TOTHER WE SHOULD SHOUT COME ON PUSSY CRABB IT THE BALL THAT IS
Arent we spurs fans tired of getting a new manager in , dismantling the old squad and building another. If 'arrys such a good motivator he ll sort Gomes and the other guys out. We are too quick to judge players at spurs. Look at Mounir el Hamoudi. 12 goals in 8 games in eredivise, Huntellar 2 goals!!
Gomes is a quality keeper who will show what he's made of as soon as he's speaking a bit more English and knows his defenders better.
Calls for a new No 1 are very premature and extremely fickle! Typical of our lot sadly!
Yes he's a flawed keeper, ie: not perfect. However, for each time he comes for and misses a cross, you'll see him come for and connect with several others (it's a strategy that works better than staying on the goal-line and waiting for headers on target from close range). His command of his area is excellent and he won't be letting in any 30 yard howlers. Give the man time to develop communication with the defenders, he's a strong character and a top class keeper, who will come good. Anyone that saw his performances in Europe for PSV knows this.

Well said mate. Our lot are the best singing, screaming supporters in the league, along with the Scousers, but we are always far to quick to put pressure on the new players. The team is a unit and it needs time to tune all the components properly. I can't remember starting consecutive games with the same back 4 yet this season, so it's no wonder the kepper and defense aren't getting it right yet.
I felt really sorry for Ramos, especially in light of what he wrote to us on his site, but things are looking up straight away now, so let's look at all the positives and drop the fickle negativity for which we are famed.
I think that everybody is being too harsh on Gomes. His game against Chelsea was brilliant. He was immense in goal and caught or cleared most of the threat to goal. It may just be that because of this setback, he feels uncomfortable holding the ball, so to be sure of the clearance, he ends up punching at just about anything. Perhaps it is not as painful as committing fully and fumbling the ball.

So Whats been going on with Cesar then...? He's been on the bench hasnt he...??
We need a new keeper i am not convinced by Gomes... he is giving sleepless nights that i could do without, after having to put up with the useless Paul Robinson - another keeper like that is too much!
