International Rescue/Rescue Me From Internationals...

Tuesday, 14 October 08, 04:19 PM · Comments (348)

In many ways a far more watchable game than Saturday's. Huddlestsone's goal was all good stuff. Sure, the wall not so much moved as turned into a troupe of Tiller Girls doing stretching exercises, but hey.

Tommy's red was iffy to put it mildly. Blake really made much of 50/50 ball he didn't really get to, although I will acknowledge he may have a few stud marks to show his granchildren come the morning. Tom will just have subscribe to The I*n Wr*ght maxim of welcoming a bad thing in a game that doesn't count.

Left back for the night Jamie O'Hara was busy enough but his 'shots' weren't great and if you discount his corner that made the second goal - it was only his close passing that really passed muster.

Campbell came on and got stuck in. He replaced an off key Agbonlahor.  His penalty claim however wasn't sophisticated enough to quite come off and after that we saw little more of him.

Depressingly, in a week where I hear Bostock isn't setting the world alight (yes, yes, despite his goal against Boro's Reserves) ... Aaron Ramsey look brand new.

Engerland proper then play the mighty Belarus tomorrow. I admit it. I'm sour there's no great Spurs boys in there. Mind you, I'm sour somehow playing flamin' Stoke is now a 'pivotal' game for us.

West Ham goalie Robert Green has withdrawn from the 'acion' on the grounds that he's  got a sore knee/ is a bit s*** at the moment. Whereas born again striker Jernaim Defoe's knees appear to be nothing but an asset to him.  He demands 'Full Focus!'

Presumably to highlight the fact that he isn't a bit s*** at the moment.

Either that or he is doing lifts back after the game and needs a full bug in order to cover petrol money.

Elsewhere, Robbie Keane says he's 'Fired up for Cyprus.' Let's wish the same outcome on his Range Rover.

What a miserable sod I am.

Let's do Stoke!

Hudd's red was a disgrace, he goes in low with one foot, the other guy comes over the top, 2 feet off the ground......

Reason Hudd gets a red..........?

Cos the sheep-shagger rolled around for 5 minutes.

What happened to our game?

Lets get a win and then a smash and grab against Arsenal. I hope the Russian is fit for the Arsenal game. He looks like the kind that would be up for derbies.

how we could have done with veloso, if Levy only could have done the deal instead of messing about justlike he did with perky bum.

Morning all,

Tonights England game means nothing to me really. I'm pleased that Terry & Cole aren't playing as i think they are possibly the most hated footballers in England. Other than that Belarus, meh. Fingers crossed none of our players pick up injuries in this second idiotic international window of the season.

Our bread and butter is the league and if thats the case then the Hotspur children have gone hungry for long enough. I think its time the club shift their arse out of the Premier League dole queue and start becoming bread winners.

The potters must be smashed on Sunday if we are to have any hope of turning this season around (already). Ramos should be drilling it into the payers that are at the club this week that ITS NOT GOOD ENOUGH at the moment. Extra effort is needed, pick up from the Hull game and improve the performance. I still have faith in the boys.

I second Spuradona's comments about the Russian, I think he'll be bang up for the Arsenal game for some reason, and i doubt Gallas & Toure will relish his playing style.

So fingers crossed for no injuries this evening and the Stoke build up begins.....

I'm not looking forward to the Stoke game at all, stoke will be physical, long balls, long throws..........at the moment spurs couldnt win a battle with a team full of midgets....this is by far the biggest match of the season, a win changes enverything, a defeat does not bear thinking about.

A message to Ramos -

Play every player in their correct position

A message to the Players -

Play as if your careers depend on it - dont take our club for granted - play with passion and battle hard, the quality will come.

Thats all I want.

The same way michael owen cant get in the squad, because 'he is not up fit yet' however wayne bridge gets in the squad, yet his most competitive games are reserve games.

I'm of the same opinion. However, seeing as King has come back injured from the last few England squads I really wouldn't want the same to happen to Woody.

Lets hope Ramos has locked Dawson in a room with King & Woody and told Daws he's not coming out until he's learnt to defend! ;) Other than that he's had the rest of the lads building themselves up for the Stoke game. A good result could really set us off. Like Wayne, I'm not even sure what i'd do if we lost!

My biggest worry is that to get out of the position we find ourselves in you need grafters / battlers. As THFCWayne said we couldn't beat a team of midget in a battle. This could be our biggest problem (maybe second biggest, the first being we're sh1t!) in that we don't have any real battlers in the entire squad and sh1t teams who stay up does so on graft, determination and bottle the stuff we have so little of. We have to go out as if our lifes depended on it, just can't see it happening. Not good enough to beat good teams, we don't battle with the grafters and as such I think "we're doomed!" (like the guy of Dad's army used to say!) :\

I've thought that for a while. Latter stages of a tournament, when Wayne inevitably gets a yellow and starts talking his way to a red, who would you rather have trying to calm things down. The brain dead/old school Terry or a very slightly more considered Rio. I thought Gerrard would have actually done a btter job...family man, comfortable in the media, makes you wonder if Cappello doesn't always see him as a starter?
We HAVE to do Stoke, yet again live on telly! They've turned attention from following possible top four contenders, to relegation scrappers, resulting in more Spurs coverage than I can remember!

We've always been live on tv favourites because watching Spurs is like a rollercoaster. One minute they are shit, the next minute we are banging in goals for fun. Like it or lump it in one way or another we are entertaining, our games are always guranteed goals even if they are being scored against us more frequently nowadays.

I'm trying to keep the faith but am really struggling. Where are the leaders to drive us on? the goalscorers? Even in our darkest hours we've always had someone who could signle handedly change a game, where is that man?

On a brighter note, I was listening to talksport while making the tea last night and they had a call in, name three england players any era who you'd bring in to the current england team, only heard a few calls but Gazza, Lineker were named as two by Stan Collymore and then another presenter mentioned Waddle. All Spurs old boys, made me proud - If only the current lot could inspire!

Woody - A leader of men (should be captain IMO)
King - Leads by example
Gomes - Seems to be able to have a go at the defence when its needed.
JJ - Footballing Marmite but on his 'good' days he can inspire those around him.

Ok, well JJ might of been clutching at straws but I genuinely believe that in bad times we have to get behind the boys, not mercifully crucify them when things go wrong.

Oh ye of little faith.

If we can get a through ball played at an overall mean velocity of between 20 mph - 25 mph, a complete absence of air current with the sun beaming down at a trajectory of 37.3 degrees and directly into the opposing keeper's eyes, I can assure you that the non-smiling Akabusi will find the net.

Not wanting to come across as a pest of the sexual nature, but...... give me a lithe attractive young lady running around in a leotard over that geriatric old cum bucket any day!

I think we all need to watch our tone of language/conversation.

Risdale might be watching - you know there is age discrimination lawas out there hehe ;)

HH

I think most people are trying not to think about losing to Stoke.

IMO I think we'll beat Stoke by 3-1/2-1. I just can't see this bad run lasting much longer. Ramos has had a large number of the squad available to him over the last 2 weeks and I think they will all know that things are starting to get ridiculous. A club like ours does not belong at the bottom of the table and the players should know that.

I expect a much improved display against the bully boys of Stoke. Stoke have a lot of gritty players in their side BUT we have the more skilful players in our squad. I know it may sound delusional but I think a team like Stoke can be passed through.

I expect players like Modric, Bentley and Gio to have a good game against Stoke. Poviding Stoke don't try and play for the draw I can see us winning.

Don't mock. JJ's our LEADING club goalscorer :?

Stoke are gonna give us quite a game at their place i reckon. And Dave Kitson is always up for playing against his 'Boyhood Heros', so we might, MIGHT, just struggle. It pisses me off that we have so many key players on international duty, when 2 weeks together learning each others games is just what a few of our lads need, especially the Midfield lot, Gio, Modric etc. Still, we're now 2 months into the season, and there was our rather fruitful false dawn of a pre-season too, these lot have no excuse to still be playing like strangers. I was expecting a lot more from Bentley, regardless of what position he's played in (besides makeshift right back), he should be having an impact on every game, same with Dos Santos, i don't think we've used him to his full capabilities yet, why not go a bit crazy and play him and Campbell up front? it's gotta be worth a go, can't do any more damage than whats already been done, and their pace alone will be a good test of Stoke defense.

who knows?

Gomes
Gunter
King
Woodgate
Bale
Bentley
Modric
Jenas
Lennon
Dos Santos
Campbell

Also, i was really expecting Comolli to be given the old heave-ho during this international break and he hasn't as yet. In fact, Darren Bent coming out in support of him seems a bit silly. GET RID. Let Ramos manage the team and the signings and watch us improve greatly come January when we finally get a decent striker and a DM. Hope by then it's not too late.

COME ON YOU SPURS!

Why the f*ck would a decent striker want to join us? we had our chances in the summer, now we're in deepest do-do no striker worth his salt will want to come to us when we're in the bottom three.
The lack of guile, imagination even effort I have seen so far does not lead me to believe we will get anymore than a point at Stoke.

I like Bentley, I think we haven't seen the best of him yet. Ramos has played him out of position nearly every game and I think his crossing ability will bring us more chances as the season goes on. He hasn't really been fully fit since he joined, hopefull this last 2 weeks has been used to get him up to full fitness.

it doesn't matter if the players are quality enuff for our 'mighty rock bottom' spurs or not. as long as their play compliment each other, we're sure to win against any mediocre team. usually, players in a good team already know what to do with the ball be4 they even get it. i just dont see us doing that for the next 10 games. so all my predictions for the next 10 games will be either 0-1 or 1-2.

jacknicholson - F*ck off. Wayne asked me a question. I responded.

Bruce - the last thing we need is another manager. Jol IMO took us as far as he could. Ramos has a better looking trophy cabinet but he has also lost the 2 players that made Martin Jol 'successful' at Spurs.

The one thing they have in common is that Damian Commoli is buggering their chances by failing to give them the players they required/need to sustain the success.

Stick with Ramos IMO. His squad was up in the air up until the transfer window shut. Its not what he wanted. Let him get the new players we have settled into the side and then judge him.

I think one thing 99% of us agree on (sorry Wayne) is that Commoli isn't very good at his job. The man is i'd say most at fault for our poor start to the season. He failed to replace 2 25 goals a season players despite having a large amount of money to his disposal. 11th hour bids for Heskey sums up his incompetence.

I think one thing 99% of us agree on (sorry Wayne) is that Commoli isn't very good at his job. The man is i'd say most at fault for our poor start to the season. He failed to replace 2 25 goals a season players despite having a large amount of money to his disposal. 11th hour...

in fairness, he replaced one with pav (who i think is a good signing) so he only needed to replace 1, which will be done in Jan ;)

I think Pav will be a good signing in the long term. He is not a replacement for Berbatov though. A different player all together. We haven't replaced the Tallagh Wanker that is Robbie Keane.

If Levy & DC knew that the 2 of them would be leaving eventually you would like to think they would replace them with 2 players capable of stepping into the side and performing from minute 1. However, we ended up with Pav, who has already done nearly a whole season for Spartak Moscow and FC who we are purely babysitting for ManUre.

Not good enough. They will have to do until January and I like I said, I think Pav will come good. We WILL need reinforcements come January.

What I would say is that Levy messed up Perky Bum deal.

He would play off the lone striker...Pav, so in truth only 1 striker would be needed.

As already mentioned, we dont know who Comolli has said to Levy to buy and who he said no too cause of the money.

In terms of Hesky, Spurs could find a hell of lot of worse players for a mill (contract expiring).

As said in previous points if Comolli is still in employment by Jan and hasnt signed 2 outa 3 (striker, def midfielder, left winger) i will not stand by him anymore, i will remove his wee pic and allow all of you 1 personal insult towards myself which i have to accept without reacting.

unproven but talented and he aint a striker, we dont have time for trialists now Wayne, we need onion baggers with a pocket full of casino chips!

And arguing that he is overpaid is not convincing me either, we have a few quid from selling two strikers and the spamsters only offered him a deal til end of season.

Quite. Refreshing football related post! We're hardly blessed with depth upfront. Certainly a better option than another free agent suggestion Ronaldo (he of the ladyboy picking up variety).

MS - Our chances against Stoke on Sunday??

Of course taking into account no-one gets injured on international duty tonight.

I think we won't win. Taking into account no-one gets injured on international duty. Unless Jenas plays for England and gets injured(thus ruling himself out of the Stoke game), in which case our chances of winning will have increased dramatically.

I was speaking to an academy staff member last night about the current regime, the small matter of 'results', and the size of the nuts of the sales team as in multiple phone calls per day, they slash, re-slash, and slash again prices off boxes.

Nursing our Bacardi Breezers, because it was that kind of bar, conversation meandered to all things Juande and Gus. But when I say conversation, I mean interrogation. And by meandered, I mean shot.

In his limited perspective, it was unsurprising to find that Gus' protracted player interaction seems to be accruing him guv'nor status, due to Juande's English issues minimising his direct player contact. This is no surprise, of course, but the more he went on, the more I was put in mind of Santini and Jol, and I was filled with disdain. I don't want Gus to be Spurs first XI guv'nor.

One of you is going to pipe up that Ramos speaks English now. I want to put those words 'speaks' and 'English' in inverted commas because when he's conducting these interviews in so called English, I'd still quite like to see some goddamn subtitles.

I have never been able to buy into this non-lingotastic affair. I mean, employing a manager that can't speak to his staff. Who the hell does that? I think it's dreamy that the lot of you seem to have found solidarity in the Stick With Juande movement. But, I'd be quite interested to know how long you expect to give him. Til Christmas? Til we're high fiving Charlton in the Championship? How about til Stoke away?

If I don't see three points - no, scratch that, I'm a magnanimous kinda guy - one point. If I don't see one point come back from Stoke on Trent, then that will be the straw that breaks Gus and Juande's back for me. And I would love it - love it - if I saw Gus and Juande atop a couple of donkeys ambling into the sunset in some poorly hashed News of the World front page picture cobbled together out of cutouts

Nunchucks,

Good points there mate. I would like to see Juande succeed but if the Stoke game yields no points I will be leaning towards the removal of Ramos from his current position.

Christmas will be too late to correct a slide. I'm going for - no significant improvement by November and he should be getting his coat.

We've only had one transfer window since Lewis lost £400M, and that window was self-funding.

It had to happen sooner or later. But I'm with you on this one. 8O

Its a tough line to tread though. Do we give JR more time to see if he can turn it round and attempt to build some continuity OR do we decide to end his tenure and attempt to stop the rot with yet another manager, there aren't many quality managers available at present and IMO it will be tough to find one.

However, this current form CANNOT continue and if Ramos can't produce the goods against Stoke then surely the end will be nigh for his Spurs career.

im in agreement that if we loose on sunday needs done, however getting rid of wendy and replacing with poyet will NOT changes things, we will be in exactly the same position as quite frankly Poyet is already doing a lot of the work.

If we were to change our management completly then by all means go for it, but not oust wendy and replace with Gus.

Enough with the doom and gloom, we will win on Sun!

however if he were to be replaced, who would be available to come in and do a job.....

I think we are all agreed, it is rather plausable that once membership applications are up and running again that HH joins and throws his hat in the ring to be the chief of the Spurs Supporters Trust.

Secondly. We (the Harry Hotspur family) will all part with some sheckles and join this Enid Blytonesque boys club and throw our support behind HH.

Thirdly. When it comes to all votes we tow the Hotspur party line and vote accordingly. Thereby overthrowing the Spurs Supporters Trust old guard and replacing it with the 'Harry Hotspur Blog Revolution'

Wayne - Hughes I reckon, for some reason could be tempted. I have said in the past that Hughes pretty much needs to win something this season or he'll be out the door at Citeh. He knows this, he also knows that Citeh will be hard pushed to win something this season given that ManUre, Chavski etc will be gunning for the prizes more so than ever this year.

His best option could be to leave Citeh reputation still intact instead of wait til the end of the season and see the rug pulled from under his feet by the arabs.

Some people seem to think the younger someone is the more dynamic they are. I think Wayne (no offence mate) has called it that way.

I'd like someone in charge who knew what they were doing and can communicate his ideas to the players. Thats what we need. It doesn't matter how old they are!

he is 61 now and has had some health problems, i want the next boss to be with us for the next 5 years...will redkanpp last that long i dont think so...i want a long term appointment not a short term.

also could you welcome Tony Adams as a numb 2 (as this could happen...decision will be harrys)

Hughes, Redschnapps & Klinsmann. In that order.

do you believe hughes/klinsmann could be tempted?

redknapp ------------- i really dont know 8O

Hughes: no
Klinsman: maybe
Hoddle: yes
Holloway: waiting for a call ;)
Rednapp: fuck off.

you have called it the way i see it apart from kilnsmann, i dont think he would a) be allowed to leave and b) want the job

Bruce, Leave it out! lol

Wayne - Hughes I reckon, for some reason could be tempted. I have said in the past that Hughes pretty much needs to win something this season or he'll be out the door at Citeh. He knows this, he also knows that Citeh will be hard pushed to win something this...

i understant that argument about Hughes, but i really cant see him leaving...i think he is ok this season, its next season that is the big 1 for him.

No on Hoddle - The man has done nothing since leaving Wolves. Can't take away the success he had at England level and IMO he was unfortunate to lose the job (media twisting his words) BUT it would surely be a backwards step.

We all love to dream, but the tough relaity is that we will probably end up with
Joe Kinnear with someone like Chris Hughton again as his side kick as a less than dynamic duo to help us battle for promotion.

just a suggestion, could you not just set up a rival trust?

Great idea. Here's how to do it too:

Afternoon peeps, spent 5 minutes reading above comments, then had to go and lie down for 10 minutes - JS & Numhead in a lovefest!!!!!! THFCWayne suggests Curbs as a new manager and no one says a word!!!!
What have you lot been smoking? Pass the pipe people!

Harry - Very unsure
Curbs - Very Sure (NO!)
Klinsman - very unsure
Hughes - Can't see it, he lives near me and his father in law lives near by, kids are settled and must be nearing GCSE age etc.... (play for the same footy club as me in the junior section!) he's not relocating to London. ps his wife is tasty stands out like a sore thumb in our club house! ;)

Like BC's Holloway shout, if we're going to go down at least we could have a laugh!
Big Sam - soiled goods? why? Had two minutes at the Cartoon Army with little money and got booted by new owners. Prior to that he took a sh1te side with no money into consistant top 8, lots of fight, bottle, big 4 hated playing his side, lots of attention to detail (set pieces etc - How bad are we at set pieces?) May not play the best footy but he did have a centre mid-field of Jay-Jay & Campo, both quality ball players. We could do worse (would he gain respect of some of our prima donnas?
Other than that I like Hiddinck, maybe Advocat, pity we didn't get Cappelo or Trapatoni.

Hodges (Bill Pertwee) was the platoon's major rival and nemesis. An uncompromising, grumpy greengrocer by day, and Chief Air Raid Warden by night, he relishes in teasing the platoon when they are caught in sticky situations.

Ginge & Nunchucks,

Will you please stop it?? Can't you see you two are tearing me apart! lol

I like Ginge (he's my 2 noddies partner) but Nunchucks is my new mate in agreeance after our clear the air talks today.

How am i supposed to choose?? :\

In other news - Curbishley NO. Allardyce - interesting prospect. Don't think Levy will take him on though. He doesn't play the Tottenham 'way'

Harry - Very...

curbs is a far better manager than Sam, curbs did well with charlton and also improved the spammers.

he would fall in love with spurs and bring us all the success we want

How is he better than Big Sam - teams were worried when they saw Bolton on the fixture list, no one was ever worried when they faced Charlton or the Spammers. Also Bolton fans love Big Sam he's seen as a leg-end Charlton & Wet Spam fans hounded Curbs out.

curbs made charlton who they were, in terms of coaching he is a great coach, he guided charlton to mid table year on year without any money.

he was unfprtunate at the spammers with injuries + forced to sell a few players.

im not saying he is my numb1 target,

im just looking at who is available - who would want to come, thats all. :)

"The great fallacy is that the game is first and last about winning. It is nothing of the kind. The game is about glory, it is about doing things in style and with a flourish, about going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom."

danny blanchflower

please dont insult me, by suggesting sam alardyce as our manager.........the legend mr blanchflower will be turning in his grave.

I like you mate. BUT..... this DC talk has to stop! And I'm actually thinking your typing these messages from a secure unit. CURBISHLEY???? I would actually check myself into a secure unit for my own protection if he became our manager!

i apologise for mentioning DC I was set up ;)

as said, curblishey is not my top target, just looking at who would come, thats all.

Wayne

I would rather have him than 'Sleepy' Curbishley.

It just means i've got so many its difficult to get them all out at once.
Your a lawyer, explains a lot, why use one word when three will do, why use a simple word when a more obscure word will make you feel better about yourself. I understand what your saying but constantly ask myself why you bother with arcane words (you've got me doing it!)
I've sat in enough completion meetings in my time where I've had to tell the two sols to shut up talking crap and had them looking sheepish, looking at the floor etc.
And what is it about your billing systems, your worse than mechanics, you just make the numbers up and then times them by the first number that pops in your head! 8O Rip off merchants!
