Making a meal of it so far.. THFC
Essentially this a rumour round up interspersed with what I'm having for dinner.
A source in Spain, via the splendid COYS forum says that the Robben deal is very much a goer.
A perhaps less reliable Sunderland site says Cuddlestone's departure is all but finalised bar which club will snap him up for £8.5 million.
Hutton, it is said, is subject to a £6 million bid fron Everton.
A bloke called Ben, a man with his finger on or at least very very near the pulse believes that Keane is staying after all. And O'Hara is off to Fulham.
The Mirror is running a new kit piece on us HERE, which if true, would back up accusations that the Keane & Wilson snap that was 'leaked' today was cobblers. Sgt Wilson, you see, apparently hasn't been in the country of late.
So there you have it. A whirlwind of windups or a whip round of welcome news. Take your pick.
What is for sure, we are being linked with more departures than arrivals. Vey, pass the salt.

Alright HH,
Would be happy to see Robben come in as he is undoubtedly a quality player and I think Redschnapps would do wonders for his attitude.
I don't really want to see Thud go, one more season to see if can become a regular I think, but then if that sort of money is being offered perhaps its time.
Selling Hutton would, in my opinion be a mistake. I like this lad and I don't think we've seen anywhere near his best yet. JOH, I wish him luck if he goes to Fulham, as much as I like the lad (and I do, I only wish that the rest of our lot played with his passion) I don't think he's quite got the quality.
Other than that, enjoy your dinner and keep up the good work

arjen robben is not far off being the best left winger in the world. there is no way he will be joining us. every year the same. every year our collective, futile fantasies humiliate us in the eyes of the rest of the football world, all because we once manager to sign jurgen klinsmann. it's pathetic.
having said that though, we did manage to get klinsmann that one time, so you never know...
Reply to GotThemNotStir:
I'm Hank Marvin. Thank you
My money is on Stuart Downing joining us before Robben does. Sad, but it makes more sense.
That`s a bit more like it.Does Robben have to bring his Dad?He sounds like a right twat.
I'm hoping that the "leaked" pictures featured in the Mirror article are real. The new strip (for if this be it) looks dapper. But then again, t'is The Mirror so the new strip will probably turn out to be Red and White with Fly Emirates on the front of it according to their "exclusive" sources.
Lazy posting, but the last thread was dying a death so I'll kick part of it on here:
It's great to see so many fans clucking for the slightest bit of material regarding our beloved Spurs... I think we were all bracing ourselves for 'Arry to start wheeling and dealing at the earliest opportunity, a wink-wink here, a 'I think he's a top, top player but at the moment he belongs to x' there.
Now, is it what we all fear and the fact is that we have to sell before we can buy, meaning we have to wait for the merry-go-round to really get started before we can jump on? As it has been noted, there is a lot of selling talk and we spent some serious wedge in January (through necessity i.e Wilson, if also a little unwisely i.e PSB), ...
Or is it a case of the list of players have been identified and they are all good, in-demand, top, top players that will require plenty of ground work & flirting before we get them to the negotiating table?
I hope there is cash available for the odd splurge or two but, if not, then we SHOULD look at offloading players that we can still kick on for a decent fee without having major detriment to the squad we have... and I think PSB is firmly in this category, along with quite a few others.
As for the Robben rumour, well as much as I'd like to see him at The Lane, surely it wont happen?? It's World Cup year which might work in our favour (regular football, if he can stay fit) but no CL, well no european footie at all, is very much against us.
I think we will be looking at a certain level of players much the same way they will be looking at us... with very much a 'worth a punt' attitude.
The EPL pays well and gives you a lot of exposure world wide so, if we go to the continent, we may get a bargain or two (a la Berbatov) looking to enhance their profile in the World Cup year... but for every berbatov, there is always a rebrov. I don't like waiting for the news, but a sound transfer policy would make a nice change. Here's hoping.
OMG those chips look good. Im now turning the oven on
As much as I would LOVE to see Robben at the Lane,I would in no way get my hopes up for such a deal. That would be like asking for blue balls.
Some good news, seems Cisse is off to Greece, according to Sky Sports... now we just need to hear that Downing has committed himself to 'Boro and that would be as good as signing a top class player.
Reply to fiftypeehead:
That's the spirit
Reply to Bermudayid:
try putting an elastic band round your scrotum and you may get Robben - you will certainly get blue balls
Robben isn't coming, no doubt about that, I think if we are going for Madrid cast offs it will be Huntelarr and Heinze, although Arry will try for a couple of loan deals me thinks to tide us over until next season when we have a little more cash.
Whatever we do we must NOT strengthen teams around us, don't sell any players to Villa unless they release YOUNG same goes for Everton.
I can still see Downing,Distan and Jones as Arry's 3 players, hope I'm way out but I think that will be that.
Seems a lot more friendly on here tonight HH? I'd love to see Robben holding the shirt with a certain KJH flanking 'Arry's other side. I'm sure there'd be a smirk on 'Arry's face that says he fancies gatecrashing the top 4 if we did see them sign.
Glad to see mental hair has given up on his Spurs dream and is resigned to going to Greece, fantastic news! Roll on July and some activity at the door marked entry for some first XI improvements.
Excellent work on the chips too, making me starving! COYS! BIOYC!
2009/10 is the year of the cockerel!
I am Lee Marvin after this picture and still ice blue below after the one before that Corrrr.
my theory on the transfer news/no news for what its worth:
we are in serious danger of quietly going about our business with the deals being done as they should be - behind the scenes.
The difference this time around is we have a manager who knows who he is after and who he doesnt need as they are being purchased to fit a system of playing, not for resale value.
I am subscribing to the theory that if its an itk or leaked, its bollox.
It works for me because by the same logic we are also after everybody we havent been linked with.
I dont believe we will let anybody go early into the window either, the later they leave the less time they have to hit the ground running at a new club.
I hope that is the new kit, sans piss stains, much better. Bit gay, but better, not our blue, but better...than the piss streaked one.
Robben would be an improvement if fit and motivated.
I'm off to lose my Glastonbury cherry now!?!?!
Why?! and at my age?!!!!
Will the sniffer dogs smell my fine wines, the Pommerol would be a devestating loss.

Keane for Robben sounds like a fair swap to me.

I assume we'd have to weigh in with a bit of coin too to sweeten the deal?
It's frustrating waiting for the signing(s) that can really move us forward but hopefully our patience will be rewarded in good time.
I'd like to see clauses inserted if the likes of Hudd are sold giving us a buy back option should he prosper, I believe United have a similar set-up with Rossi & Villarial (spelling).
p.s Have you been frequenting the Chicken Cottage HH?
This is turning into a farse every team is taking the piss offeringcrap money for good players tried and tested not unused overseas players .Harry should tell the truth or fuck off to pompy he said we need three players to build a top four side. But he dident tell us he is selling all our players to get them he will be saying when is three players get injured we have a small squad.Get real Harry city is the next in line for the top and they will have to go some to get there so we and the rest have no chance and should keep all our young team for our new 60 thousand (STADIUM) then we can compete dont make sunderland or villa or everton stronger tell them to get lost HUDDS HUTTON BALE BENTLEY BENT PAV SHOULD ALL STAY .Huntelar robynn and van will be gone if they are anygood in jan .we will not better the playerswe allready have and will I bet any spurs fan that regrets will follow if we sell any?

Stunning result. And despite the best efforts of the referees. We had about three or four offside decisions go against us in the second half that were not even close to correct, and the sending off of Bradley was shocking. In the Prem, it's debatable whether that's even a foul let alone a booking. And certainly, certainly not a straight red.
Anyhow, well done to the lads. They played their asses off.

Well well, this is a first, guess who?? Would also love to see Robben at the lane, and finally landing a class left winger will have as great an impact as the Sgt. Schnapps has shown how much he can revive older players and develop youngsters consistently. Not averse to Young for the same reasons.
Much as I love Thud, 8.5 sounds like good money right now. Having said that I can see him adding to that value with regular football, and becoming a star for England, so really not sure. I wouldn't be happy to keep him without finding a place for him in the 1st team.
Agree that we shouldn't sell Hutton. I'd like to see him and Charlie swap roles. Charlie as cover for left and centre, Hutton starting. His game is already there, he's young and will get better, and he's a Spurs style player.
Best of luck to JOH, Fulham would suit him. His passion will be missed, but I don't feel he could ever become a great at the lane, and every player who starts should have that potential.
Somehow this lack of movement in the market is exciting me. Something wicked this way comes....

Bruce....let us bask in this win for at least 24 hours.....you can not imagine how down this country was on it's national team as late as Saturday night.....
Maybe there is something to the Robben rumour, I say that as the resurgence of rumours of Downing might conveniently be to edge negotiations along in Madrid? I hope so, I think Downing is a step backwards for us and if it IS true and we get him I think we'll all have to revise our expectations of the clubs ambitions.
Nonetheless the player I really wannt to see is Huntlaar and sod the wage structure: I just think this guy could sew up our forward play. I think he'd do well with Defoe and I could see compatabilities with Pav who might just be fresher this year after a break. I think Levy should just do what is necessary to get him; we can spend the next couple of months wheeling/dealing for the other couple of gaps.
I think we have to accept that if we hold a wage structure as Villa and Everton may well do, we will not compete with City and the top 4 will be a top 5 which will all but buffer against any of us (Villa, Everton and THFC) getting CL football. Worse yet is that Pompey might then join them!
I think we have to pay our top players (top 2-3 if we can get them) at market rates and look at it as an investment for better league positions, cup runs and and aftermarket merchandising all of which will offset costs. However we do need to be careful and not offer 'A' grade deals to 'B' grade players.

whatever next ?
Before anyone gets too excited about 12 million downing, the same paper says he is signing for boro!!! another paper says we are in for maxi rodrigez and various itk's say that robben is not dead - best advice is to wait and see but I'll bet anything we arent going to pay 12 million for downing! After Gio's performance yesterday and reviews from Ipswich I hope he gets a chance back at Spurs or at least that we only loan him out rather than sell him.
To Arthur Spigott (or whoever was criticising Lennon and saying Bentley would have done better) - in the games I saw Bentley hardly managed a decent pass, most of the time he tried to be too fancy and beat players himself and ended up just losing the ball; time and again last year I saw Lennon put dangerous balls into the box and bent was nowhere to be seen, hiding behind a defender or something!!

He doesn't have to go at all.
We all know Lennon's final ball is pants, but it did improve slightly last season. Lennon gives the side lightning pace that scares defences and any manager will tell you that's invaluable.
I still think he's best used as an impact player, but if Bentley isn't doing it for us, we either start with Lennon and use Bentley as a sub (hoping he finds his game) or replace Bentley with someone else.
With the arrival of a decent left sided player, it will give us another outlet and might leave Bentley less under the spotlight with time to rebuild his confidence.

Of course we should bring Robinson back he's a far better shot stopper than Gomes. He had a weight problem that the club could easily have sorted out (he is apparently addicted to Pizza) . Big Sam has got him eating properly and back on form. Robbo lost confidence when Dawson started cocking up without Ledders to hold his hand.

FENWICK - NETHERCOTT - VEGA - THATCHER
M.THOMAS - DOZELL - BERTI - SAMWAYS
REBROV - RASIAK
Armstrong as an impact sub.
I think you have a couple of bites Artur!!
I think mr. spigott is pulling your leg chaps, mostly beacause he can't pull his own. Being deficient in the leg department to the score of one.

Cracked one of these last night. Outstanding it certainly was. Might be in your vicinity?

PS.
Nobody but Sid should check the link, I don't want to use Harrys blog to advertise generally; god forbid.

Quality.
Here's an idea- just throwing it out there.
Why doesn't 'Arry try playing Lennon on the left; like Young does for Villa. Instead of getting into a position where he has to cross (which he sometimes struggles with) get him cutting inside and attacking the full back.
Stick Bentley on the right crossing balls to a lofty target man al a Jan Koller (but someone easier on the eye)
Bingo.
At least then we wouldn't have to buy Downing.
Yeah, I'd like to see Gio given a chance. With up coming frendlies, I guess this is the time to test the water with different players and tactics.
Reply to WhoFramedRuelFox:
Personally, I think it's because Lennon would be so predicatable on the left. He's alot more right-footed than A.Young and defenders would know that they have to keep him wide on his left foot. Alot easier to defend against than when he plays on the right and can go either way.

Errr - remove the 'ing' and the 'there' from first line I think
Did Wendy not try that for our spectacular start of season last year?!?
Lennon out left, Bentley out right, and a handsome lofty target man called Darren Bent....
Check out Gios two goal for mexico last night! Hope we dont sell him! LINK

Sorry, Ron Greenwood.
The team was a mess at the start of last season. I don't think anybody had clearly defined roles or instructions. With bouyed confidence and protection from Wilson in the centre, it's not the daftest of ideas. I do, however, agree with Randlator that his attacks may become predictable.
And I'd argue against calling Bent a lofty target man. Target man- without doubt. Lofty...barely.
No worries DV- I'm a member of the Bent fan club, too.
A lonely place at times.

Held annually at the public phonebox on Easter Island, or Specsavers Mururoa Atoll branch?
Reply to uri geller's spoon:
The phonebox was considered 'too spacious for the member's needs.'
As a result, next year it will be held in the boot of Harry Redknapp's Ford Focus.
Sorry to come over all David Dickenson on you all, but I just saw this little fella on Ebay.

ÂŁ900 for an action man!
Someyid somewhere must have one stuffed in the loft?

Lennon and Modric must be charter members.

How do you expect double vision to find it?

Ron Greenwood? I'm Tim Sherwood mate, so don't question my tactical nous!
Wasn't slighting young master Bent - only getting a wee chill at the familiar sound of that formation - or rather the recollection of it in 'action' last year
I think Lennon is improving all the time and will probably have yet more to offer on either flank next season.
Notice the 'handsome' tag was undisputed....
ball bag i have done it

Who could argue?
Focus DV, Focus.
Am I the only one suffering de-ja-vu over the seemingly alarming lack of quality players being lured to us so far, the list of players leaving, the fact that every worthy player on the shopping list that simply must have "champions league football", the strange golden necklace about our new kits collar region and the appalling TV show "Big why Bother"?
Ahhhh ....its good to just get it off yer chest some times.
Ford Focus halfwit!

Not sure about Charlie as cover on the left but has certainly he has shown he can do a job in the middle for us.
If truth be told, even if we end up with Stuart "falling" Downing, we would have that much needed "natural" left winger (all be it a sub standard one) which would release Luka into the middle, which lets face it is where he needs to be to control shit.
Good to see you on here Blud (great name btw) and in town in a few weeks, will let you know and we can get on it properly this time!
