Man City Away - The Pre Match Prattle!

This will be a really interesting fixture and it must have been a while since anyone has said that and actually meant it.

Playing City was always a bit like facing Villa. The only guarantee was 90 minutes of pretty joyless hard work and with one lapse of concentration you could be you on your way with no points.

How times thankfully change. This game will present instead to rather revitalised teams and we might just might find ourselves promoted from the comedy tag item on Match Of The Day.

Needless to say but I will anyway, a win will catapult us out of the bottom slot. A draw may serve as a credible part of the healing process, but will be of little use otherwise.

It's all about goals. City have knocked in twelve at home in contrast to the rather lonely brace of Spurs' net rattlers away.

City's 'dangerman' is Robinho, but Ireland, Elano and Wright Phillips have all scored three league goals a piece so far. By contrast, Benty has five with Jenas and Pav sitting on two each...

City will give us the space so it's a question then of how we use it. I feel cautiously upbeat. City are as useless as us. Which is to say they can flatter to decieve and the right team can go in there and collapse them. Huddlestone or Jenas could open them up and Bentley and Lennon could really cause some trouble. Could. What a word.

I fancy us to beat them by two goals. Bold as brass but there you have it. 0-2, 1-3 ...it's all the same to me. Huddlestone as an anytime scorer is 7/1, so it only makes sense to extend your loan and get on.

BIOYC!

An away win (with a clean sheet) should be our target! Not going to be a walk over though so I expect a very tight game with only a single goal seperating both sides. COYS!

I too am cautiously optimistic! this one really could go either way, City are good at home where Robinho, Ireland and Wright Phillips have been tearing it up, but we're on the up and confidence is high and I think the kind of time and space we will get in the midfield will suit us with Modric and Huddlestone supplying a confident Bent, I really thing we could nick it.

I wonder what strategy harry has to deal with robinho - on recent form, hutton doesnt look up to it. maybe corluka is a better bet for right back - he will be rested and highly motivated. I think the full backs and their performance are key - bale isnt in great nick either - the rest fo the team picks itself if jenas is fit. F*in goons have just gone 2-0 up, kick someone neville!!

Yeah Glenwasgod your right about Hutton and Bale I've been surprised by their performances this season, they were both great last season, it just seems that neither have fully recovered from their injuries, Corluka at right back but bale is still our best bet for the left!!

I am probably the last person in the world to have seen this, but West Ham are on the telly and I cannot stop laughing.

I knew XL had gone 'pop' but those pikies have sellotaped f***ing numbers over the logo. Eh? They haven't got new shirts?

Are they for real?

I'm going to write to whoever their MD is this week and point out it makes it very difficult to take the p*** out of them if they exceed at the task themselves.

I really don't fancy us winning this one. I feel this will be the game that the Redknapp honeymoon ends with vomit all over our dress from too many peppermint schnapps (it tasted better on the way down) and we actually have to start addressing the lack of cohesion issues in defense. Has anyone checked the odds on us playing the same two centre-halves for two matches in a row? Poor delivery from Bale and Lennon and Huddlestone's immobility might be exposed as well. "Give 'em a chance, ffs" you say? COME ON YOU SPURS

Harry. I.... I love you.

This has got all the makings of our first defeat in 5. Whenever you start forcasting things like "A win tomorrow 'could' take us up 5 places." fate has an uncanny knack of pissing on your fireworks.
Still, my money has gone on a 3-1 win, and I might have a side bet on Lennon to pop one in at 7/1.

To be honest, who gives a fuck about PSB? I'm more concerned with SPURS. More thoughts on tomorrow; I think the fact Kompany isn't playing (banned) will be good for us. He's been playing just in front of the back 4 and his absense could mean more space for Modric to weave his magic. We hope!

I absolutely agree with munso; this is one of those 'Typical Tottenham' matches. All the work done against bolton, arse & the 'puddle, seems to have not only given ourselves the opportunity of taking a big leap forward following one win but also to have propagated some people taking it almost for granted that we'll be knocking on midtable's front door this time tomorrow night.

For me this is a 50/50 game; the large dose of luck which has contributed to our securing 7 points out of 9 won't last forever and it remains to be seen whether the squad is able to replace it with more appropriate long term tactics, like not giving the ball away when under no pressure or passing to players dressed similarly to themselves.

I'm hopeful but tentative.

Go on the Spurs.

Did ya read this LINK "One decision Corluka would like to see Redknapp get right is playing him in his favoured position. While he has been used across the back four this season, Corluka insists his best position is as a defensive midfielder, which would allow him to cover for the raids of Modric"

Our "DM's":
Zok - Bags of energy, let down only by his touch and lack of real quality on the ball.
O'Hara - Agressive young yid, just a shame he wasn't more gifted
Thudd - Great feet, quality in abundance on the ball, however not particularly mobile
JJ - Enigma. Is DM his best position or do we want him scoring goals?

To nullify Shittehs attacking threat, we need elements of:
1. Pace
2. Great positional play
3. The ability to quickly turn defence into attack.

Arry's preference is seemingly to play 4-4-1-1 with wingers, one in the hole and 2 in the centre that deliver the elements above.

Assuming back 4 picks itself (based on previous not current):
Hutton-----King-----Woodgate-----Bale
And front 2 are:
Modric-----Bent
With Wingers:
Lennon-----Bentley

I've got a sneaky that says Arry will draft in JJ to do the running (assuming toe is happy) and Thudd to provide the killer passes.

Personally if the back 4 listed was settled, fit and on form, I would like to try Charlie in DM - he's another loper, one that looks slow but always gets to the ball. Although with Robin Ho and SWP, theres a sh*t load of pace to worry about so I reckon he might end up starting on the bench.

what i meant to say is i really haven't a fkn clue. I just hope we defend from the front by taking an early lead and constantly hittng them on the counter and blitzing them 4-0 as well. Perhaps make the Arabs realise they bought the wrong club.

El, I agree that Corluka should be put in the DM slot. He's more agile than he looks, because he has such an odd gate. But the real impediment to doing that seems to be King's fitness. So I think Harry wants to keep Corluka in the backline mindset to provide some consistency in an intermittent defensive line up.

King is great when is fit, but I think it is time to find a solid replacement for him, its not fair to woodgate and his teammates to keep chopping an changing personnel in such a pivotal position

Harry has put a lot of stock in Modric and has said that he plays best as a support striker with only one out and out striker in front of him. So I think the 4-4-1-1 will stick. It might lead to some healthy competition between Pav and Bent, like he we used to see between Keane and Defoe a few seasons back.

If Gomes keeps his cool (big if) and the back four put on a performance like they did against Bolton and Thud and Modric can feed Bent things will be fine tomorrow. PMA. We will win.

Given Hutton's current form, I'd be surprised if Charlie isn't RB. Of course I'm assuming that Ledley is fit and he's not CB. I'd like to see him at DM, apparently he played there for citeh on a few occasions. Bent, Hudd and Modd all deserve to keep their places. My heart says 3-1 but the head says 2-2. plenty of tickets going for the fulham game next sat on the fulham site blocks p1 and p2

tuck in, its always good fun at the cottage

£48 8O

i know, bloody cheek! think they were 32 last year but they know we fill our end up.

48 quid to watch danny murphy work his magic. thats gotta be value for money

I'm not paying that for there. I'm sure plenty will though.

A win tomorrow 'could' take us up 5 places. :D

Lucky you can get to a game for £48. If and when I go its at least £300 on flights, ticket and hotel. £48 is an absolute bargain. You dont know how lucky you are. I'd near pay that to watch us on the internet.
Tricky tomorrow. Not a tricky match, just a tricky one to call. In theory, we are...

It's not luck mate. I choose to live in London.

£48 for Fulham is a piss take.

Unfortunatley life doesnt grant me the pleasure of living in the close proximity of Tottenham Hotspur. Unfortunatley too, Tottenham Hotspur are based in the dearest city in Europe, meaning any trip across the Irish sea to attend a game costs me a weeks wage. Not that I dont go, get to a couple of games a year, but its a bloody expense. And with me due to meet the misses at the top of the ailse in 7 weeks, I am not exactly flush at the minute.
Still, sitting with laptop on the knee, speaker system blaring and glass of vine in hand isnt exactly the worst way to watch a game. Not the best, far from it, but it could be worse.

Whilst he's in the lilywhite, I want him to succeed I really really really do. He does good unassuming grafting in games that doesn't attract the headlines. Arry and his African track record might bring out the best in this boy. But then again, I may just be starting to lose track of reality myself...

Didier works hard reads the game well and has pace. But he never seems to boss a game, to control the midfield and his distribution is not great.

Gerrard, Alonso and Mascherano showed us last week what a dominant midfield looks like and I am not sure Zokora is ever going to be part of something like that.

That's what I'd like to see today.
Modric in a free role just behind bent.
Huddlestone playing a more advanced midfield role with Corluka holding.
Hutton (maybe Gunter) and BAE overlapping with Bentley and Bale down the wings.
Bring Lennon and Pav on for the last 20-30 mins depending on the score.

I dont think we'll see Corluka in Midfield until he's really needed, ie, due to injuries and suspensions. Until that happens, we will be choosing from Jenas, Hudd, Zokora and O'Hara, and to an extent Modric. Considering Harry is desperate to see Bostock playing too, we seem to have plenty of cover there.
Hutton still seems to be off the pace at the minute, finding his way back in, so we could see Corluka deployed there, tho with the threat of Robinho an on his game Hutton would be the best option due to his better mobility.
I'm not sure we'll see much more of BAE. I dont think he offers a lot, goes to sleep in games, so my preference would be BAle and Lennon on the left. Very attacking, but sure, if they score 3 we'll score 4. Seems to be on live on an unnamed internet site..... great.

They'll get behind the ball and use their pace to catch us on the break. The good thing is , ther's lots of room for Mod, who's on fire. The Hudd is quiet, hope he gets into more next half. This should be a 3-1 win, fingers crossed.

Its not as easy as it should be having the extra man, city just got everyone behind the ball.

Do think the wrong midfielder came off for Lennon, Bentley was poor and so was Jenas for the first 60, got a reprieve by being involved in the winner.

Woeful post Modric. Made them look like they had 12 men. Rubbish. Very much reminded me of watching England play Portugal. I'm annoyed at the way they fell apart after the substitution. Its like 'STOP F**KING DOING THIS TO ME'. Possession possession possession.

I'm overjoyed at the 3 points mind. Riddled with glee.

granted I embelished, but the essence of the game was there?! ;) Now I look closely at my ball(!) there was a smudge on it.
Who cares how brilliant/lucky is Harry!
