Man City In Freefall - An Exec Speaks Out

Monday, 11 August 08, 01:23 AM · Comments (148)

Come here, there's more...

Now with no name to them, the words below could well be derided, but given that the content lacks any hate agenda, I'm inclined to buy them. There have been many ambulances chasing Thaksin since his arrival at Eastlands but it seems now the sound of the sirens must be deafening. Not a good read for Manchester City fans, but interesting fare for rubbernecking Yids.

"I'm sorry to say this, as a life long fan and - for the last few (for me at least) unforgettable months - employee, MCFC as we know it is finished. Here are the FACTS, for those who really want to know. Thaksin is, as of midlnight 10th August, 2008, an international fugitive.

The Corluka affair is the last straw - I personally worked on the deal and can assure anyone interested that he has already been transferred to Spurs. Spurs have this evening started legal action, and he will be barred from playing for City following an injunction in the courts tomorrow

He now has to be found guilty of corruption in Thailand in his absense, offering no defence. Extradition requests will surely follow. The PL will then have to find him short of the fit and proper ownership rules (and believe me, the pressure for that from fellow 'members' has been growing since June).

Thaksin is trying to palm off City onto whoever will now take it, an insolvent mess of a business, completely incapable of sustaining itself. The truth is that the only interested party (until recently) - Wardle - is not now able to bail City out now , he cant come close on his own and no partners have been found. The wage bill and committments due on the last 2 years' transfers have spiralled out of control.

Personally I expect Hughes to then resign on principal (he has no choice now, he is on record as saying that he will have final say on all transfers). Many wont believe any of this, but a few will. I am very close to this situation (readers will never know who I am or how close - a few would know my name but it isnt appropriate to for me to come 'out') - trust me, I am close enough to know what has happeneded in the last fortnight, I am pissed off with it (as a fan, and as someone who has worked hard for the club durinig the ast 18 months or so) and it must be said, a little drunk.

I am posting this message on a few sites - apologies for those that keep reading it, but I want City fans to know what is happening. The sad truth is we are finished, and that as a result, the PL will be facing its biggest challenge since inception within 2 weeks of now."

A good read, not because City are in freefall, but because if this is right, Corluka is a Spurs player.
I like City, their a good club who have been through a lot over the last decade, their fans are one group of fans who have been through a worse time than us in recent years. it looked liek it was going well for them with teh excellent appointment of MArk Hughes as manager, but this is fast turning into a nightmare.#
anyway, as a Yid i'm happy. Corluka will add quality cover in a number of positions, at a very reasonable price . . should the deal go ahead.

Very interesting read. Good news on two fronts:

1) We get Corluka

2) We now have guaranteed 6 points from Man City this season!

Anyone know the odds on Man City getting relegated this season? ;)

A shame for city fans, as I'm sure none of us would like to see our club being shot down the tubes in such a way.

However...... Corluka, would be a fantastic signing, versatile, young, and proven (all be it a season) in the premier league.

I hope Spurs can now go in for Johnson, Hart & Onouha. 3 players who are young and very very promising.

Once Hughes goes I expect the rest of the premiership vultures to be circling Eastlands. Lets just hope we land first and get the prime cuts!!

ANOTHER fantastic result yesterday, Bents first showed how confident he is at the moment and Bentley's second was a joy to behold!! (how long have we been screaming out for a player like him??) AND take a bow Aaron Lennon! I would of drove him to his next club a month ago, but I have to admit his pre-season form has been impressive, he seems to have learnt to cross, and his finish (after J2S' awesome run) was great yesterday!

Cant wait for next weekend!! Bring on the Boro!

I do feel for all the City fans as there is substance to the story. Just check any major political news site and you will find articles about Thaksins arrest warrant. This is another big fuck up by the PL allowing this moron to buy Citeh. Unfortunately Citeh can do nothing about it but watch their club be torn apart.

Now from a Spurs point of view we can exploit this situation as in any business other competitors would pick off the best bits for themselves. Now lets think we need a DM (Johnson) oh and a back up goalie (Joe Hart) hmm what else could we get? Corluka is apparently already in the post. Also a move for Petrov in my opinion would be shrewd. Berba gets his mate to play with him and we get a more than capable left sided player who can operate like the rest of the AMs have so far. Also if he can get Berba into a decent mood then a Berba playing at 85% is still better than most players in the EPL.

Now if Citeh really are in such a state we could get all of these players for £30m. Now that would be very shrewd business and essentially completing our squad. (and a cheeky bid for Micah Richards wouldnt be the worst thing in the world!)

Anyone agree?

Behind all the reports concerning the club, and our wishful thinking regarding Corluka's transfer, there is definitely something fundamentally amiss at Man Sh1tty. Take the news, rumours and gossip with a huge pinch of salt, and you're still left with a festering boil just waiting to burst.

Sure, there are very few Chairmen these days that you'd recommend for prizes in Niceness, but there are even fewer with connections to alleged wholesale corruption and alleged human rights abuses.

As tables go, it's a small one where Spurs pick the sweetmeats of Sh1tty's abandoned banquet, compared to the enormous political platform required to serve up Thaksin's poisoned main course in Thailand.

Corluka will be doing his utmost to leave that mess - not just because it's a stinking, unhealthy pile, but because there's a veritable garden of delights waiting for him at White Hart Lane. Yesterday, he probably cast envious eyes on our 5-0 thumping of Roma, and felt desperate to be part of it. That's not speaking as a 'delusional Spurs fan'. That's just a recognition of human nature and an acknowledgment of probable fact. There were no clouds over the stadium, political or otherwise - there was only sunshine.

If Spurs have legally signed Corluka, we may have nicked in at the right time. If the club really is in crisis, there will surely be procedures and regulations which it has to observe that impose restrictions on its freedom to sell its assets.

Luka is number 14 this season! Our new Johann Cruyff!!

Greekos - agree with you on your list of transfer targets from city.
The only problems I see are: Hart - will want 1st team football, not back up to Gomes. Especially seeing as spurs signed a new keeper at the weekend from Zaragoza.
Petrov - Would again want 1st team football and also better wages than what spurs could offer him.
Richards - will want Champs League football and I can see him taking the short journey to Man Utd.
I would love to see Johnson and Onouha come to Spurs. Johnson is a great prospect, good on the ball, can get forward when required too and has a season of prem experience under his belt.
Onouha - England U21 captain, can play CB and RB is again young, prodigously talented and will supply fantastic back up to King and Woodgate alongside Corluka.

Johnson and Onouha could be bought for a combined fee of around £12m-£15m IMO. Especially given that Johnson has turned down the latest Man City contract offered to him.

Fair point jaimespurs. I see what you mean about Hart and Petrov but I think that if these players know what is about to happen to their club then there (in my opinion) only 3 or 4 clubs that they can move to so that they can forward their careers.

Richards I agree isn't likely and I see him leaving for Man U as well but WHO DARES WINS and you definately have no chance if you dont bid for the player at all.

For Hart it would be Everton Villa us or Arsenal. As these are the teams at the right end of the league with the muscle to afford him. And it would be between us and Arsenal I think and he wouldn't be guarenteed 1st team action at either club.

Petrov will take the wages we give him because he knows that we are a club going places and that we will probably offer him the best wages with us. No one will give him the wages he gets at Citeh. I cant see a top 4 side going for him and we also have a friend of his in the side so it would be easier for him to settle.

I totally agree about Onouha would be a great asset to have but I feel that in that back up CB role we need more experience. (We should still get him all the same.) Corluka I can see sitting in front of the back four more than being a apart of it.

What's this story about Fergie supposedly considering a bid for Henry? Is it a ruse to flush out Berbatov?

If it is, then rednose's strategy must be flawed, as Ramos surely has better contacts in Spain to provide him with intelligence.

Unless it's true.

If Berbatov is still here by next weekend I can't see him starting against Boro. It has to be Bent, 4-5-1.

Nice to think that, in the absence of Alonso's sale, Robbie's price has effectively emptied Pool's campaign kitty and screwed Rafa's plans. Robbie - still serving Spurs, even when he's gone.

From what I've seen of Onouha, I rate him more than Dawson and with the versatility he posesses I see him being more of an asset aswell.
Corluka will be a great signing as he can play CB, RB, CDM. Will be interesting to see if he does fit in at CDM. If King isn't fit I'd expect Corluka to play CB ahead of Dawson.
In an ideal world Richards would sign but when King and Woody are fit he wouldnt start. Hutton will have the RB slot sewn up and can you see Richards accepting a place as back up??
I would love to see Johnson at Spurs as he can be the kind of all action CM we need and have been needing for a while now. He can pass, get forward and tackle in equal measure and at the age of 20 looks like he has a fantastic future.

Where's Arshavin? C'mon, Daniel, don't lose focus. Let the legal team sort out the Corluka transfer. Breathe deep and concentrate, knowing that, when you get (y)our man, he's worth every million.

According to the Zenit website, Andrey Arshavin "started paying football at the age of 7". Apparently, that was 20 years ago, although the photo of Andrey opposite the text suggests it was only 10.

We all know Andrey is talented, but did you know he can also sing? "Andrey started as a right midfielder, his duet with Aleksandr Kerzhakov became well known in Russian Championship".

Also, "He says that his hobby is creating goals for the team." Hobby, eh? I wonder what he does for a living.

"Andrey has successfully defeated his thesis “Development of the sports wear production process” and graduated with the diploma of a fashion designer." Well done, that man, for defeating his thesis. I wonder what the result was - 2.1?

Its ironic that Mido has done to Boro exactly what he has did when he played for us!

He was fat when he started his spurs career but still showed flashes of brilliance. He then started the season looking in good shape but got injured. When he came back from injury he had ballooned to a jabba the hut size of a footballer, then we sold him, with Levy doing IMO his finest piece of business for the club and getting Boro to part with £6m YES THATS RIGHT!! £6m for Mido.

Daniel Levy, I salute you!

KING BACKS CORLUKA'S SPURS TRANSFER!

In a matter of speaking. The Thai King's meeting with the head of the 3 supreme courts in Thailand 2 years ago, seems to be just one of the factors that have lead to this. I think it goes:

1. Thai King orders supreme court heads to constitutionally resolve political crisis, hinting that any parliament in which the opposition was not represented could not be legitimate.
2. The judges took the hint, annulling an election in which Mr Tax-sin's party had won a clear majority
3. 'Peaceful' Military coup
4. Tax-sin runs to England and buys Citeh
5. Tax-sin tries to buy Ronaldinho and pay him £200kpw
6. Coz his mates are heading the govt, he thinks his wife will get off scott free, and goes back 4 a jolly
7. Pot-of-jam-man (tax-sin's wife) gets convicted to 3 year jail term for fraud
8. Tax-sin and Pot-of-jam-man, go on a bender in Beijing. Tells his mates in Manc land to sell up asap.
9. Fraudsters do a runner
10. International warrants released for the Thai Bonnie and Clyde.

Surely next steps are:
11. Corluka moves to spurs
12. Xfer window shuts, no more players to/from Citeh
13. Tax-sin's attempts to get political asylum goes tits up when he realises that the money-in-a-cake routine doesn't work in a democratic country with moral values (thats the UK by the way).
14. Tax-sin sells Citeh for whatever he can and does a runner to the US, where you can buy a passport.

So you see, it's not really all doom and gloom for the Citeh fans. They just need to hold out till January when a new owner might have funds to strengthen the squad. I'll doubt if we profit anymore from this fire sale, other than getting Corluka in. My main hope is that with all this unrest, we do roll them over in our 2 prem games. Lets face it, they had a tasty squad last season, with a few nuggets found by old Sven.

Its ironic that Mido has done to Boro exactly what he has did when he played for us!

He was fat when he started his spurs career but still showed flashes of brilliance. He then started the season looking in good shape but got injured. When he came back...

Jamie - nice one. I forgot all about Danny boy pulling a fast one (or rather slow fat one) on the Boro.

How far we've come. From Mido and Dean Richards, to Modric and Dos Santos! Remember, its the same Board, but this time round he's learnt his lesson and knows that that little extra cash can get you the real deal and not a fat waste of money....Postiga anyone? I mean Glen was god, but how could anyone watching Cronaldo and Postiga, choose the latter over the slimy but silky skilled tart.

So for getting good money for old rubbish, and for correctly installing, backing and supporting the current regime (long may it last!) salutations all round indeed for Mr. Levy!

I'm guessing NITK is "NOT IN THE KNOW"

According to BBCnews: The courts are showing unusual toughness and tenacity in going after the Shinawatras.

A clear sign was in June when the Supreme Court, which will try at least three cases against Mr Thaksin, jailed the head of his legal team for attempting to bribe court officials with cash concealed in a cake box.

Bunging cash in cake boxes!! How original!

My dad lives in thailand and he reckons Thaksin is screwed. He basically can never enter Thailand again. If he cant enter Thailand he cannot get to the £800m he has in his various Thai bank accounts because they have been frozen by the courts.

Citeh are in a very unfortunate position and the FA should be held accountable, they knew he was dodgy when he cam over and letting him buy a football club was a very poor move, I know in the grand scheme of things football isn't that important but I feel for Citeh fans as its their club that may go under or "do a leeds" How would we like it if it were our club?

However, I now hope to grab all 6points off them this season and hope once the Corluka deal is done that we can pilfer Onouha and Johnson from then in the Eastlands Fire Sale!!

Meant to say, that a club like Man City should be able to stave away the bailiffs for now. They've just had £35m injected into the kitty to pay for wages, and only really need to stay up. Thaksin will probably sell a portion/all of his stake in the club to fund his get-away. And that will mean a new owner.

The only way I can think it going wrong for them is if they get relegated and the Shina-whites assets (including the club) is broken up and sold on. If there are people lining up to buy the barcodes for £250m then surely someone paying £100m for Citeh will be a doddle. Possibly some dodgy yank who then puts the debt back on the club? ;)

I just want Corluka. The thought of the attack supported by a gifted midfield that Chelsea, Arsenal, 'Pool and Man U can throw against us coming up against a backline whose chances of being injury free and playing together are about that of Gordon Brown running away with Carla Bruni to Tahiti.

A verstaile young defender who is 6 foot 4 is a missing jigsaw piece that this puzzle desperately needs.

I saw that, Trembly. Not someone sniffing his old girlfriend's knickers, but the Berbatov video-compo. Made me go all gooey.

Shame it didn't work out between us. Unless he's actually staying now till January, which makes me uneasy. Perhaps time has run out for us on other deals, and we've been forced to retain him for now.

It's like girlfriends again. Why can't they just move out, once the romance is over and they've decided to separate? It only prolongs the parting, making it more painful and the mood more sullen. It's like two people in the same house living distinct lives.

If I recall, most of the City fans I spoke to at the time Shinawatra bought City were delighted (and amused) to have him and his ill-gotten gains. Consequently I have very little sympathy for them now. You are correct though, the FA/PL 'fit and proper persons test' is clearly ineffectual if it actually requires the individual to be convicted first. Surely the nature and seriousness of the allegations against Shniiwatra should've meant that until charges were dropped and his name cleared, he would fail the test/s in question.

I believe the answer is unfortunately yes, he'll be cupo tied. Chapter 8, Article 17.18 states: 'One player who has played UEFA club competition matches for another competing club in the current season may exceptionally be registered provided that the player has not been fieled: in the same competition for another club or for another club that is currently in the same competition. If the player's new club is playing in the UEFA Cup, his former club must not have played in the UEFA Cup at any point in the the current season.'

Even if he doesnt land Arshavin....I give the man credit for his financial moxy and for sparking the Ramos Revolution. (Some say him and ENIC will sell when we get into the CL). I'll be happy to admire him for his vision and business savy for getting us there first and then reconsider.

All in all, I am a Spurs fan. I will admire him somewhat until I have a compelling reason not too.

anyway, come on corluka!! re signing other citeh players, martin petrov would be a massive waste of time. if we wer gonna sign him we may as well have kept malbranque, thought petrov was poor towards the back end of last season.

one last point, if citeh play corluka in uefa this week, surely he wouldnt be cup tied if indeed he is being played illegally, without being registered as a city player??

The story in The Mail about Berba going to Old Trashford by the weekend, while having no quotes and no substance, at least has a named reporter - someone we can say 'Nyerrgh' to, if it doesn't happen.

I see that Kaboul "has been backed to put his Tottenham disappointment behind him". LINK I wonder which one. I thought there were several.

So what's the deal? Drinking to forget? Drinking because it no longer matters? I wish I knew. Meantime, I have an entree, some shellfish and some game. And a Lion Bar.

Hey i am no way ITK but know a few people who usually get things right and they are all saying the only reason Villa aint joined us is cos we want top dollar for Berbs (and Valencia need to sort a replacement to appease their Citeh type fans(!). Thinking about this logically it all stacks up;

1. Arshavin; a ruse to keep focus off Villa
2. Bent as "the big man", Peckhart as back-up
3. Berbs to Barca (hopefully) or Manure for 25 mill
4. 25 mill downpayment on Villa (which gets Valencia some cash and keeps the creditors at bay for a season.
5. Valencia can then keep Silva & any other star they have

The one thing i havent checked is if Spain have started pre season, if they have then i bet Villa has been training but not playing?

I dont see smoothbutt heading our way unless the fee comes down to 15 million & Capel and all comers also cant see it.

If we get Villa & Corluka then happy days

If Hutton has twisted his ankle, does that mean he can run forwards and backwards at the same time? A physical model would probably determine that he would actually just run in small circles.

Unless Arshavin's lying, I can't believe Ramos would phone the player up and then send the suits to Russia to complete personal terms.

well focus is off Villa so it might be working

out of interest what is smoothbutt earning at Zenit?

If its in xs of 50k then it wont happen anyways, pretty sure Villa is around 45k so that again stacks in his favour.

Apparently around 50k pw net.

toddspur, the pic was in tonight's London Lite or London Paper (my eyes just happened to fall on the page while someone else was reading the paper, honest). If it's a photo from February, then that's some hangover. Respect, Ledders.

If Hutton has twisted his ankle, does that mean he...

=D I am givin you info from links, will try and find them both. Ledders also doesnt wear grey boxers, not unless his mum put them in with his black socks

Arshavin is on serious dough, approaching 100k it has been said. Would love Villa but can't see it happening as I think he want to go to Real Madrid

Don't know about wages, but these are presumably basic. If Smoothbum came to WHL a whole new commercial market would open for him (and us). Lots of spin-offs, sponsorship deals, Russian icon, etc. etc.. He might even take Henry's place in the Adidas advert and broker a peace between Russia and Georgia.

Having said that, we could just as easily go for Ashton and get a sponsorship deal with Fray Bentos. 'Spam' - you know it sucks.

Personal terms were sorted weeks ago so i wouldnt worry about how much Arsh is on.

If we will pay it they are worth it.
I think he'll be on 100,000 a week. They say he's on 80,000 a week after tax.

On another point about decoys, I think we can afford both Arsh and Villa, and will probably bring both in, maybe even Veloso, who knows.
But as Jenas is not doing too bad a job as DM we might not.
Jenas has to play if King doesnt so I think its clever that JR has got him playin DM, coz I couldnt see him playing as an attacking midfielder.

Dream Team.. if everyone's fit

---------Gomes-----------
Hutton King Woody Bale
--------Jenas------------
Bentley Modric Arshavin
-----------J2S-----------
--------Bent------------

That is a serious team my friends.

great team but if we oay 100k then we will be inviting mayhem with the ret of the boys, perhaps they have Smoothbutt on a basic of 50k with add-ons, that might keep things straight?

i guess the manure legal shite is all linked to Berba's future. It may be Levys way of making them pay the 30 mill?

Not sure if that’s him. But if it is. It’s definately not from after the Carling Cup victory. He was wearing different clothes

If Corluka plays for City on Thursday, does that round still cup tie him?

I believe the answer is unfortunately yes, he'll be cupo tied. Chapter 8, Article 17.18 states: 'One player who has played UEFA club competition matches for another competing club in the current season may exceptionally be registered provided that the player has not been fieled: in the same...

Bruce. Your picture looks a lot like Daniel Levy. Are you moonlighting ?

In deed it is. A lovely picture of the young general with hair! :D

Brucey. I'm starting to worry about you.

Although, his recent performances in the transfer market may yet elevate him to cult hero status. Especially if AA arrives.

Even if he doesnt land Arshavin....I give the man credit for his financial moxy and for sparking the Ramos Revolution. (Some say him and ENIC will sell when we get into the CL). I'll be happy to admire him for his vision and business savy for getting us there first and then reconsider.
...

With you on that.

I keep thinking that reason we are able to compete in the transfer market and are in a pretty good financial position can be summed up in two words : Sugar and Alan. Of course I expect to get quite a bit of flack for saying something good about him but I remember the shit we were in when he arrived.

I also remember someone explaining to me that Terry the spiv nicked the floor of the Chanteclere Room for his night club Scribes West !

Such Happy days..........
