There were mumbles. Certainly there will be grumbles. If it happens - on your feet and applaud.
How would you feel about a right footed, one man revenue stream who could actually cross the ball?
Ladies (both of you) and gentiles, may I introduce David Beckham. Lillywhite on FTL and others who are in the HH witness protection programme are saying that a breathtaking, imagination capturing deal to get the man that accompanies Victoria Beckham out of her oxygen tent of a morning is underway.
What do I think? Fanf***ingtastic, is what I think.
Let's get him in. Homes fit for heroes? White Hart Lane always has been one, always will be.

All you need do is email Norman HERE making sure you quote HarryHotspur to insure you get yours before Levy & Co dip their beak.

a left footed, one man revenue stream who could "actually cross the ball?"
Surely you mean right footed? Or perhaps left handed? Or perhaps sinister? Other than as a figurehead to big up our global presence and perhaps tutoring a few players on how to cross the ball (nudge nudge Bentley?) this will be a huge money drain in an area that isn't a priority.
What am I saying...bring on the Becks (leave the skanky stick insect in LA)
HH have just got back from a beano to Margate? You say left footed and Beckham in the same sentence.
ps nice applauding gif.
A 10 month loan deal I hear, we`ll fit the old cnut in somewhere

Though, I detest the Beckham circus (and his Missus)
you can't fault the guy for his profesionalism, fitness and desire - he could show some of our guys something there I think, Mr Huddlestone et al. But he can only play one postion and that's where Azza Blud is.

becks and palacios would be a great combination in the middle, and with a target man becks would pick him out from corners , free kicks etc, he's also a leader and would help the likes of huddlestone and bentley. also good supply for JD
Sorry HH, even for you this must be utter b*llocks.
also is there any news on negredo / vucinic?

He is in the fucking bag man, along with Cole, Huntelaar and Robben bring it on
Just can't see it myself HH but hey, stranger things have happened.
Rose...Blud. We have Rose and Blud for the wing. The Beckham Rumour comes up every transfer window, makes more sense now than ever before though, but i guess he'd have to take a more central role, maybe in a 4-3-3 to accomodate Lennon.

How about Bentley he is still with us?

Aye, IF true, it will surely be in a 4-3-3? Can't drop Lennon for Becks?

Imagine our journalists applying the same slap-dash attitude they do to the front page as they do to the back:
*David Cameron to join Green Party
*Obama to head up London Olympic Committee for "new challenge"
*Al Qaeda to join anti-whaling campaign
*Transport for London to buy Space Shuttle
*Tories and Lib Dems to swap front-benchers
*Blur swoop for Liam Gallagher
*Policeman to join gang of burglars - insists "not for money"
*Celebrity Masterchef transfers to Celebrity Come Dancing
*British Airways out, as Qatar Airways takes over

I think he'll be a great signing for us. Not just on the pitch, but think of the revenue he'll bring with him. Maybe the only thing to salvage the piss streaked home shirt this season.
Could do with an experienced player in the team considering he's played at all levels and knows the game inside out.
Just wondering how likely he will come to us rather than any other club around the world in a better position than us.

same shite different season maybe this time the gossip is even more desperate is it me or are we only linked this year with players that are either passed it i.e beckham, van nistlerooy etc or just plain boring average players i.e crouch ,downing (whose now injured relief) kenwyn jones, shawcross etc i used to look forward to the new season, only to be dissapointed ,but at least the hope was there this year i`m really dreading i don`t want it to start spurs have now got zero pulling power
I would think lennon would be over the moon. Someone at last who could pass to his speed of thought other than the odd inside pass from that left back croatian slow bloke.

brilliant & thats about as usefull as keane can get why did we bring him i was over the moon when we 20 million for him i don`t think he is worth even 5 mill runs his socks off but real class players don`t have to i.e ferdinand ,berbatov fabregas

Always well worth a read Dave, I must now head to the pub to digest it
Harry was in the Poole branch of Sainsbury's tonight, he picked up some Becks & ham. Before he got to the checkout, I saw him downing one, he seemed keen to leave.
Wasn't there a story from the time that when El Tel was too busy fishing under his desk for his jaffa cakes to actually sign him on proffessional contract letting Becks go up North in the first place that DB promised his Granddad that he would in fact play for spurs one day.
Do we really need Beckham to teach Lennon how to cross a ball? Isn't that what we employ coaches for? Is Beckham the custodian of a unique, ancient secret on the art of ball-crossing, and does he now wish to pass on that trasured knowledge to the next chosen one? Can't see it myself. In any case, Beckham can't transfer his physique and spatial awareness to Lennon, so differences would remain.
I guess Beckham could 'do a job' for us on the pitch, but I'd say his 'brand' is bigger than ours. He doesn't need us - except, perhaps, as a bolt-hole from Galaxy - should he wish for one (and no doubt there would be alternative, bigger bolt-holes).
There's something unconvincing about the Beckhams as a couple. I want Spurs to be a football club. We currently have enough circus acts in Taarabt, Prince, Chimbo, Gio etc..
I've resented Beckham for some years because of his celebrity and the way in which he courts it. But I can't dislike the man, because he obviously loves football, maintains his fitness for purpose, and his passion to play for his country appears genuine. For me, these two qualities sit uneasily side by side, and I can never extol him completely or declaim him utterly. There's always a tension that can't be resolved. I've wanted him in the autumn of his career to 'give something back' to the sport that made him a superstar - such as play for a non-league club and help it achieve league status. That's fanciful and romantic, I know, but I'm a Yid - and fanciful and romantic is in the DNA. For this, I suppose there are ample examples of his charity work that I know not of; or his academy or academies (although these don't 'give back' for free, I assume).
If Beckham could, above all else, be a professional footballer for Spurs, then his presence and experience would be a great asset. If his fame and stardom were simply allowed to shine, without vulgarity - and thus augmenting our fame and our profile in the process - I would say we have a result.
Reply to COYS77:
becks never wanted to play for spurs ,he used to even go training at spurs ground with a man utd shirt on ,spurs wanted him but he didn`t want spurs, he got his wish in the end & no way should we welcome him back, he`s lost too much to handle the premier league now lets bring in players who are in or nearly in their prime the nearly is better because they are cheaper & also the top four & man city might not be aware of them yet we need better scouts i mean do they do anything? since arnesen left we have paid far too much for average players & please no crouch i beg ya

Bench??? I just thought he was too good a player to be included with that lot. I'm maybe completely wrong, probably am actually, but I think Kenwyn Jones is a very good footballer - and could potentially be great for us. I also think Pavs is better, given the chance.
I may be dillusional, but can only go by what I've seen myself, not what others think.
Pros of signing David Beckham:
None
Cons of signing David Beckham:
Egomaniac
More interested in him and Victoria appearing in papers
Will not allow anyone else to take free kicks/corners, thus making sides predictable
Wants to be captain
Age
Poor goal/set piece ratio
Insists on having the ball as much as possible
Decided to snub us when he was a teenager and fuck off to Manure
Most overrated player of all time
Finally some true stories sliding out of H.H.
I can confirm through a friend that this has been a done deal for over a month and david golden balls beckham will be in a white shirt by october!!
Reply to name:
Yeah, clearly there are no pros to having a midfielder who can pass and cross the ball as well as anyone in the league/world. Oh, and of course, an older/more experienced player who turns up for training early and is the last to leave everyday would set a terrible example for the Bostocks and Parretts of the squad when they could instead be mentored by Jenas or Huddlestone! Having a captain who actually has some experience when it comes to winning is very over-rated too, why not just make JJ (or perhaps Bale) the new captain? Beckham is clearly pants, I mean he was a regular for AC Milan last season on loan, forced his way back into the Real Madrid side after being told publicly he'd never play for them again and was given a contract worth $250,000,000 to sign for the Galaxy, must be truly shyte!
No pros at all obviously!
Don't get me wrong, he's never been the complete player or even winger, as he isn't quick to take on and beat his man (and as such, would never have been my 1st choice as a winger), but to write him off as worthless, while we currently have a bunch of underperforming mediocre primadonnas taking home big salaries and providing little in return (JJ, Hudds, O'Hara, Keane, Pavlyuchenko, etc...), seems a tad foolish to me. With his lack of pace, vision and reading of the game, I'd stick Becks in the centre with Palacios and keep Lennon (when fit) wide right. Can't think of any superior options from our current squad, can you?
Reply to robspur:
FTL was mentioned, if you read the above. And does it really matter?

The David Beckham you speak of. From what I can work out it wouldn't be until January 2010 at the earliest, due to his Galaxy commitments. And one of the USA's greatest players doesn't speak fondly of DB. I would have thought SSG would have broke this story, but I imagine he's too busy celebrating Sounders' latest victory against Houston

I have to agree, he is not the best player I have ever seen but he has got what is missing in our side which is a work ethic and a will to win. Our squad is full of nearly men, guys who have more tricks and speed than Sir David of Leyton , buy they lack his application
dont even think about it `arry.....says he `ll never play against man utd.....we fawkin dont want another 5-2 or 10 -2

Totally agree. Surely if it worked like tht Hoddle could have taught Dean Richards how to ping 50 yard passes to feet!
The other thing that annoys me about Beckeham is the believe that he is far and away the best crosser of the ball ever, known to man etc etc. Is it only me who sees him take a corner and hit the first defender time and time again. It used to be believed that David Bentley was a wonderful crosser of the ball. If Becks comes to Spurs he will be Bentley mark two. All thoses wonderful crosses don't seem to help LA much. If you put me in the old Man U team or Real team crossing to RVN / Ronaldo / Raul etc I'm sure they'd put a few away. Oh and I've got as much pace as Beckham (& Bentley)

if only for the profile boost and the associated player pulling power.
I still think he is a great footballer in his own right to be honest.
Oh god not Beckham?...bloody hell we are being linked to another 'has been'...whats going on?
Beckham might help the coffers a bit but the bloke has been living on his reputation for years.

Agree with the pulling power / profile etc. However we have the best right winger in the country, our best player and were considering buying a high profile right winger for the second year in a row!? How much do we want to piss Azza off, I'f it were me I'd be tempted to say "you obviously don't rate me, as such here is my transfer request" We struggle to attract quality, Becks MIGHT help with that, but at a risk of upsetting one of the few real top notch players we've already got.

Thank you for the mental image of Victoria's oxygen tent.
I can't escape the weird conviction that she is in some way connected to the Roswell incident.
David doesn't require a brochure to explain his brand enhancing potential. On the pitch, he could no doubt be made use of. But we would still need to acquire players for the weaker areas of the team that have been discussed at length. So no to Beckham if he costs us our entire transfer kitty.
If Bentley were still with us he'd have to go on loan to QPR or wherever for the duration? Oh dearie me.
Not that I take any of this gossip seriously.

bentley and beckham have crossing issues lately - bentley has confidence problems and beckhams doesn't hit a deadball with that power or accuracy ( though his passing in play is still very good ).

To suppose that Beckham could tutor Lennon to cross the ball is to ignore the fact that Lennon invariably crosses it when he is moving at speed, whereas Beckham will cross it at a stroll or standing still.
Lennon's pace presents challenges that most players won't have. For all I know, he may be as accurate as everyone else when the ball is motionless and he's allowed to kick it at leisure. It's the difference between aiming a rifle at a target when at rest and poised and trying to aim it when running.
Bentley, being slower than Lennon, might benefit from some schooling by Beckham; but, again, what are our coaches for? Besides, Bentley has a responsibility to himself to improve his skills, and Beckham is by no means infallible.
I was amused by the curiosity of Rio Ferdinand interviewing Roger Federer. Federer is a man at the top of his game and, like Ferdinand, is paid handsomely for it. But I struggled to compare the two sporting high-achievers as equals. Federer's ability to hit a tennis ball with unequalled finesse and accuracy is surely beyond anything that most top footballers can express.
Yes, the two sports are totally different, and comparisons are probably facile. But tennis players become great by applying hour after hour upon month after month of effort to practice, developing and honing their skills by diligence. Only the very best thrive. If these two men were cars, Federer would be a Rolls Royce and Ferdinand a Vauxhall Astra Estate. That's a bit extreme, but I couldn't resist.
I imagine the top tennis players to live almost an ascetic kind of life. As soon as one mountain is climbed, they start training for the next. I realise their lives also involve a degree of luxury unknown to the majority of us, but they probably involve more self-discipline, too. Ferdinand and his kind will have far more free time - time that could be used, for example, to learn by diligence how to kick a ball accurately.
By the way, I see Bentley was attacked.

You are not Davespur by any chance?
I believe the MLS season finishes in late October, maybe SSG could confirm that? Not quite sure how a deal could be structured then so he would be playing from then.
I assume you cant sign in current transfer window whilst allowing him to stay with Galaxy until the season ends, then start with us at end of October.
The other options would be:
- him to sign on loan to start the season with us, unlikely as he has only just returned to LA last week.
- him to sign on loan from Jan 1st 2010 until the end of the season.
However, according to this piece written a couple of months ago, he has a buyout clause in his contract which comes into effect at the end of this calender year. That may suit all parties nicely.

I can see the similarity, but no.
Aside from the obvious on-field tactical questions of Beckham joining us, is the question of his commercial contracts to Adidas. For this reason I still think Milan would be his preferred destination, though with Leonardo having replaced Ancelotti, and Kaka's departure p*ssing off their supporters, it would be quite a different environment to what he played in last season.

If we really want to get a pinpoint crosser and passer of the ball to teach the young lads, why not Anderton...seem to remember him taking England's right mid spot almost consistently when he was fit...beckham used to move to the centre to make way for him.

Are Davspurs, Davespur, Davspures the same person? Just thought he might struggle with spelling his own name. The posts certainly indicate a likeness.

ps Any tips / good one liners for a best man speech?
Such is Beckham's wealth that he could pay Spurs to allow him to play for us and to our training facilities. What number shirt would he have? Inevitably, it would be the one with lots of zeros on the back.
I can't envisage either Lennon or (in particular) Bentley cheerfully submitting themselves to tutorials from Beckham on how to cross a ball. How would 'the new Beckham', especially, feel about receiving guidance from the original? Not very happy, I should imagine. Egos would be bruised.
The probability is that Beckham is being brought in to advise Bentley how to exploit his image and to negotiate its rights. There's clearly a market to be targeted, most notably in hair gel products. Maybe some players should simply forget about football and focus on advertising and endorsing products.
The story of Bentley being attacked in a restaurant illustrates how unpopular he is in some quarters. Maybe it was merely bad luck, or a fellow diner got irrationally pi55ed off at something. But it's the kind of event that suggests he might be better moving abroad, as he seems to have become the object of much negative attention. I note from the story that his fiancee is seven months pregnant. Last season he was supposedly beset with personal problems. Perhaps there's some connection. If he stays with us (which I doubt) I hope any problems have been fully resolved - for his sake and for ours, so that he can participate fully in the coming campaign.
I mean 'to use our training facilities'. This, of course, includes our tattooing parlour.

It's morphing into Davespurious...
Best man speech? There's plenty on the web to steal, but I can try and find my old one, if I still have it (I still have Mrs 9.37).
I see Steve Bruce is allegedly interested in signing Dawson. He's a good player and an asset as a personality, in my opinion. He's still young, too, and not the finished article. Keep him, I say.
9_37. "By the way, I see Bentley was attacked."
From the reports, it seems more like the Bentley in question was part of an hit-and-run incident
Reply to 9__37:
This has got to be a non starter. With quality and guidance keeping him company at the back, Daws is an excellent player. Arry reckons he could be a future England captain - so that's in another 5 years or so when defenders are said to mature in their late 20's?
We simply need him to keep learning from Ledders and Woody about positioning.
Reply to 9__37:
Maybe that was the problem - his fiancee is pregnant, but not by him. He could have been on the bench for that one as well. Waits for comments about firing blanks etc.............

It's believed that the relative journey of a successful sperm from ejaculation to egg, is comparable to that of a football from the rood of a tall building, across a busy road and into a skip.
rood = roof

any news on these guys 'arry?
Reply to SeattleSpursGuy:
I'm betting on Ramos.
He popped over from the continent for a banger (no ketchup) when he saw the slack jawed mug of the do-nothing skip hitter who cost him his place in top flight English football.
"Ay Caramba! What to do? I should ignore him."
"But there he is, with his undeservedly hot WAG and dripping scalp, braying laughter....And look, his mate just asked him to pass the salt and he missed him completely! Hit the maitre'd by the door. I can't stand it."
So, the rage builds and a plan is laid. A bill is paid and a cab is waiting.
That gibberish being shouted? Merely rapid fire Spanish invective.
And the deed is done.

I wouldn't say it's a non-starter, depends on how much Redknapp wants Jones.
As for Beckham, not worth commenting on.

FOURTH!!! Fourth bottom more likely. We'll be playing four right backs and four right midfield. Tottenham "lop sided" hotspur. Sign some left footers for fucks sake

we have a great prospect in Gunter, Corluka, Hutton and chimbonda and yet keep being linked with every RFB around. mustnt get carried away, must trust that HR hasn't gone mad
For me its not a case of what he would bring on the pitch as mcuh as what he would add to the dressing room. When Harry brought PSB back, one of the main reasons he quoted was how quiet we were and how we lacked leadership. Beckham would bring these qualities in abundance as well as adding a much needed example of proffesionalism (Our current senior player's reputation being severly tarnished).
Given Beckhams need to be playing top level football prior to the world cup, the location of his home and his ties to Spurs, I would say this rumour must have legs.

One of our own players, top scorer D. Bent, flings a cryptic sentence out in the air at Twitter today. "Becks the man". You can read in it what you want, but he should be in position to know if something is going on.
He also states that he is less than happy about the training camp in Devon.
If we play Becks on the left, and Lennon on the right, I will welcome Becks to the club. It would also be a statement of intent, that would make other class players take notice to us.
Comercially it would be a shrewd move by Harry and Levy. It would generate lots of extra cash to the club.
