A faction of this mob still carry spears and shields.
The Roma Ultras history is steeped on non pitch related activity dating back to 1979 AD when one Vincenzo Paparelli was killed when a Roma fan, from the opposite end of their 82,656 seater stadium, hit him bang in the eye with a flare.
So if you think you're safe in the East Stand today, think again.
These sometime extra paramilitary right wing nutters also spread (thankfully false) rumours before a game in 2003 that the police had killed a child - the match was suspended as a result.
So welcome then to another family day of friendly football here in glorious N17. A postcode today filled with happiness, sunshine and laughter.
I'm sure today will be all about playing the ball and not the man, woman or children. Hahahaha. Word is they haven't taken up all their allocation anyway. Let's just hope the ones that did didn't come via Canning Town scoring Bren guns.
This will be an interesting game and once the getting to know you of the opening exchanges are done, much emphasis will be upon Tottenham's defence and how it copes with the better than half decent attacking midfield and strikeforce of the Italians.
For our part, this will be no better occasion for Bent to show he can do it not just against Delia's lot but a real European outfit. And that will stem from what we can generate in our brand new midfield. Spur's possession percentages in the recent reseason games has been impressive. We rarely retained as much of the ball last season. If you want to beat a team like the Giallorossi and we're eminantly capable of doing so, the answer is to keep them off the damn ball. Go figure.
Hopes for today? Well firstly whatever the score we give every yet another indication that we're genuinely on the up. That's competent defending, assertive goalkeeping, inventive passing and with any luck some memorable goals.
Secondly, Berbatov. This, my fine feathered friend, is a perfect opportunity in front of a sellout crowd to show us what you want. Your desire must match that of Bentley, Huddlestone and O'Hara. So take a tip. Stop just showing up - and do what you do best - show off.
Lastly, let's hope that the only flares on display are on one of those stalls by Seven Sisters tube.
Harry first timer . Out of the country is anyone showing the game today?

There are numerous streams available (no direct links on here though, boys & girls, thank you) as per RJ1882.
Spurs TV is showing it and if you're a member there was an email recently offering a free 30 day trial.
Of course my code didn't work and I understand lots of people's didn't.
THFC are worse than sh*te at dealing with ANY enquiries so the likelyhood of anyone watching the game on the trial today is less than tiny.

Harry, is there a code of conduct to follow regarding posting information about links for streams???
I'm at the charity shield today so hoping someone might upload a torrent of the game later on as I do want to see this game.
Any Man U players people want injured today?

Ha. There is no code of conduct mate, rather an allergy to being accused of promoting what are essentially illeagal broadcasts.
Many forums (not just Spurs one) ban on sight anyone putting direct links up. I don't know what the reality of being prosecuted etc is but who wants to find out? Not me.

Dont injure any of the strikers/attackers. It might tempt Fergie to get his wallet out!
Song for Berba
Grey skies are gonna clear up, put on a happy face
Wipe off the clouds and cheer up, put on a happy face
Take off that gloomy mask of tragedy - it's not your style
You'd look so good that you'd be glad that you decided to smile
Pick out a pleasant outlook, stick out that nobel chin
Wipe off that full-of-doubt look, slap on a happy grin
Spread sunshine all over the place
And just put on a happy, put on a happy,
Put on a happy face.
How can the cheeky chap fail to grin...

Berbatov's one last chance to show us what he is willing to do, because we already know what he can do. I think this is his last appearance in a Spurs shirt at white hart lane, so be sure to give him a good send off if you are lucky enough to be there.... the wnaker!
For those that want to...
lol yes its on tv ants but ya not gonna watch it in the uk without a working proxy, and HH there italian streams atm m8 so ya got nthing to worry about, lol unless an english one comes up ofcourse lol
just wanted to get some thoughts on the most important signing of the summer. sky or setanta? Skys more expensive, Setanta has that nasty yellow/black colour scheme. Sky have SSN and Geoegie Thompson, Setanta have UFC but Steve Claridge, what to do????????
lee i have both setanta and sky, and at the moment im liking setanta sports news, they are quicker on breaking news for eg we wone gold today and with in seconds it was running along the breaking news bar on setanta! sky didnt bother? as they do not have the rights to the games (nor do setanta) they deem it a less meaning sport??? also setanta run a txt column at the foot of the page for fans to txt in and now there are a couple of fit sorts now appearing on set sports news
more live football on Sky, more football shows on setanta . . what you into? and the blonde on setanta right now is unbelievable . . gorgeous, nicest looking tv presenter. . probably ever!
No word on Corluka yet, so i presume he wont be paraded at WHL today.
Andy Gray hurt me with those comments about us, which aint helping more love for sky. But on the other hand they do tend to show a good few spurs games.
Legend? my Arse!!: There's currently no link for the Tottenhamgame @ live footy, is it?
Thanks for putting the links to my Wallpapers up Harry...Glad you like em
...Cheers!
3-0 to Spurs, half-time.
First goal was Bentley free-kick. Poor defending allowed bal to go straight into Roma net.
Second was by Bent, following long Gomes kick and defensive error. Bent took it very well.
Third was Bentley again, following another defensive error. Ball fell to Bentley, who moved at speed toward the Roam goal and hit a great shot.
Gomes has made a couple of good saves. Haven't seen all the broadcast so far, so assessment patchy.
Spurs are becoming adept at taking their opportunities when presented with them. I'd like to see a goal from open play wilfully designed and intended, without the assistance of faulty defending, but they all count, so I'm not quibbling.
Much congratulatory mobbing and back-slapping among the team at the goals. Berbatov a notable absence from that, from the minutes I saw.

4-0. Beautiful move. Gio put final ball to Lennon, who took it well - the flowing move I wanted.
5-0. Bent. Fine corner from Bentley. Simple tap-in for Bent.
Zokora doing well at right back.
Gio unselfishishly gave ball to Lennon for fourth goal.
Another fine move nearly enabled Bent to get number 6, with Gio again passing unselfishly.
This, my friends, is a team
Handbags between Zokora and Cassetti. Not Didier's finest moment after a late tackle, but maybe words were said. Gunter replaces him.

Quality link mate, thanks. 5-0 v Roma? Fuck about !!!!! We will sweep all comers before us and win the premiership; mark my words, you heard it hear first.
Crikey. How good is G2S looking? Unbelievable! Bentley, Lennon, Modric, even Jenas looking like crucial parts of a shiny new midfield Rollys Royce engine. And in Hudd, O'Hara and Bale we have versatility and quality on the midfield subs bench. (Although I still want Bale to play 90mins at LB!)
Watched the game on THTV free trial... thought Berba looked good first half. Master-stroke by Juande to sub him at half time.
Looks like Dimi aint our only crowd pulling superstar this season... JJ, Bently,GDS & Lennon combo for the fourth was exquisite
At the end, as he walked off down the tunnel, Ramos looked composed and impassive. Not a trace of a smile was evident on his face, as if to say, 'Five-Nil? Don't be surprised. It's to be expected. Football is a simple game, and all you have to do is follow my instructions to win matches. Trust me. Trust my formula.'
Best goal of the game was Lennon's. A selfless pass from Gio set up a difficult shot for Aaron, who took the chance with aplomb. Noticable throughout was Gio's awareness of others and willingness to put the success of the team before personal glory. This young man is gold.
was certainly a good performance, like the look of gomes too...
dos santos looks brilliant and to figure for that long indicates he'll play a bit this season. Suppose it just depends how he adapts to the physicality of prem football.
berbatov coming off at h/t was a shame, he seemed to be playing quite well and i'm still waiting to see his response if he scores. that'll be the best indication- he's always been moody.
ive said it before and i will again, one more time... if he's off this week we're taking a huge risk playing him. if he gets injured we get stuck with an injured moody bugger. i guess time will tell.
Boro will be better than these, but well played
holy god.. i was expecting 2-1 or something like that but 5-0!! anyone got a link to the goals or preferably the whole match.. would love to see it..
by all accounts Bent seems to have passed his greatest test yet..
roll on next week.. (god help Middlesbrough)

Agreed.
Harry you asked the lads to deliver on all fronts... no question for me they did.
Gomes adds a composure to the back four which culminated in the creation of one chance in 90 mins for the Itai sh*t kicking paramilitary crew... & thats not the few that were sitting in the stands.
My only disappointment was the fact that Luka did look a little bullied 1st half. Let's hope it was just an off day.
BIOYC
Keep it real, though, dudes. There'll be a lot more urgency from Boro next week. Mind you, by then we should have Corluka to add to the mix. What was encouraging was the application of ideas and creative movement. Match that to a bit of rufty-tufty and we should see some results.
Gomes looked very cool - if anything, one of the coolest heads on the pitch. I have yet to experience that sense of panic - like watching a speeding car losing control on a bend - that was so regular when watching Robinson.
We're ahead of Roma in terms of preparation and fitness, but I'm sure they didn't come here to make up the numbers. This was a fine win (albeit against a side three weeks from full-speed) but, more importantly, it will be PERCEIVED as a fine. Spurs whacked Roma, 5-0. That's a statement.
Yes. Now for the real work to begin.
In a perverse way it seems like a 5-0 drubbing of an Italian champions's league outfit isn't the ideal preparation for Boro away.
I suppose it'll have to do though
Couldnt have possibly woken up to better news. At 2-0 within 5min, Im sure Roma laid down after that, but still amazing.
I watched the game and was very impressed. I still think Berba will be off if somebody shows some remote interest. But IMO if he stays, hopefully he will realise he is part of a developing, good team, unlike last season when he thought he WAS the team.
Handbags with Zokora and Cassetti. Described very well by 9.37. Cassetti did appear to throw a punch once he got up after Zokora hovvered over him as he was on the ground. Definitely words were said. A bit puzzled how Zokora got a yellow and the other guy just got a chatting to. Unless I missed the card getting issued, but pretty sure that's how it went.
Good, flowing football from the MIB. And the Roma boys didn't like the fact they got embarrassed. The reckless tackle on Lennon towards the end of the game pretty much summed up their game.
Gomes? Well, he wasn't scared to come out, unlike Robbo, and looked solid between the posts. More importantly he commanded respect, and even acted as peacemaker when the Zokora incident kicked off.
It's exciting, sure. But I'll hold fire on predicting a League win! Like the optimism though Dannyboy
Our best opposition through the pre season friendly's was Orient? Who'd have thought it???
lovely display by all accounts. had to make do with some shifty italian presentation, until someone kindly posted another link. wish I'd pulled a finger out from the start and taken advantage of the free OS trial coverage.
What most struck me from the bits I did manage to see, was the way that the boys were out like a bullet from the start. that rabbit had no chance, prime pedigree greyhounds chasing every goal down! Psychologically for Roma, what a blow to be 2-0 down in the first 4 minutes.
I'm very very pleased today
and one for luck

Listen. Day 1 of the premiership, 20 clubs start equal. The season is fought over 38 games. Score 1 more goal than them every game and we win the league. Simple. Don't know about breaking top 4, we should be aiming higher. Why not Champions? Someone's gotta win it. If we get a good start.......who knows? I'll tell you one thing; a lot of clubs ain't gonna look forward to playing us this season. Today was like watching the great push and run sides (from what I've seen on video!) Awesome at times today. Bring on the Boro.
Question - where would Keane have fitted in today? Do we miss him? Like fuck we do.
coys
'I'll tell you one thing; a lot of clubs ain't gonna look forward to playing us this season'
Too right, don't want to get too carried away, but most of the league will be blown away if we play like that.
Bring on the Arshavin.

And the bookies have us at an unprecedentedly low 50/1 to win the damn thing....
. Last couple of years you could stick another 100 on that.
