Smoothbum Bid Made

Monday, 21 July 08, 01:32 PM · Comments (46)

Russian Doll

Leaky leaky. A sterling source has backed up the Setanta story of earlier today. Tottenham have put in a sixteen million pound bid for the Russian star, Andrei Arshavin.

Personalised shirts sales to one side this would be a fantastic signing. A more than capable replacement for the boyhood Pool fan. A quality player nicely approaching his 'prime'.

And as our Diplomatic Correspondent JGM ably pointed out I wouldn't get too wrapped up in his Euro's games. He's more than two good games and a poor one thus far in his career. He'd cause havoc in the Premiership in the same way Tevez does. That's my belief. And if we can steer him past Barca, Chelsea and Ar5ena1 it'll have been a coup.

If this comes to fruition then the personal terms will make for interesting reading. The salary expectation is unlikely to be less than hefty.

Exciting times.

Today, David Bentley opted for a moulding clay over hair gel.

HH - would love this one to come off! Its about time we had someone who can go past oponents with more than just turn of speed - and just for the record, I believe this fella has way more in the locker in terms of ability than 'Bob the want away knob'

may be true that he has more pace but he isn't a hit man, he is a creative midfielder and so not a replacement. similar to modric but modric has the edge.

If we get Bentley and Ashravin then our formation for next season is likely to be 2 - 7 - 1

Do we need any more 'creative' midfielders. We need a hard tackling marshall behind the midfield to stop the 'creative' ones dipping in and out of games as they please.

Harry well done, as ever you keep well abreast of things.

The scenario I most fancy goes like this :

Berba to Barca

Bob the pointer to 'pool

Gareth Barry to us in exchange for Kaboul and a crate of Guiness.

I'll leave the choice of strikers to Daniel and Juande. That way they'll feel they've contributed.

F/ck me Harry, this would be some coup. We were linked with this boy a few months back. I personaly think his more direct approach to goal would really suit Ramos' vision of attacking football. He had a great season up to and including the Euro's .. but I will not get my hipes up .. in fact it will be nothing short of a miracle if we do sign him. I could easily get over the Pool supporters departure if this ship comes in. Very easily!

Yes, quite a coup, a far better player than Keane. He can play as 2nd striker so would not hinder Modric and can roam and come in from the wings with great effect. Harry, terms may not be a big issue, both his agent and Andrei have gone on record to say that few teams can pay him what he's already on at Zenit. The key is that no other top team makes a move for a while, I don't think that he'll come to us if Barca, Arsenal or Chelsea make a move.

Also, to all fellow fans who are slagging Keane off: give the guy a break, he's worked his socks off for us, we can't offer him CL football, he's going to his boyhood club to play with some of his best mates, he's making us shitloads of money (more money than he's worth, actually). All we should say to him is: "Thanks, hope we nick your new team's place in top 4". It would be even better if we could be Babel and Alonso in return.

Couldnt agree more about Arshavin - n play as a 2nd striker, left wing or in midfield.

Modric and Arshavin are two of the most talented and technically gifted footballers in European football why people wouldnt want them both is beyond me. oooh we cant have two world class players in our team, that would be crazy we might win stuff and all that shit.

1 up front and 5 acros the midfield is Ramos' way.

But Keane? I cant agree, a two faced dirtty little cunt. Hope he breaks his ugly shitcunt face in half in his first game.

Despite his declarations of loyalty he upped sticks the first time he was asked to prove it. Twat. He is on par with Campbell in my eyes.

Give Keane a break? I would opt for a fibula.

I'm unapologetic on Keane. He specifically said one thing and then did another. Berbatov has weasled around for a good while now, so no suprises there.

Keane wants booing. I only say this as cutting people no matter how they have carried on is still frowned upon by the Police.

Cool, Arshavin it is but there's no height or strength in midfield. :(

Still, laughed at or not, we're crying out for a defensive midfielder and we have one in Tainio.

Seriously, is a new DM gonna gonna be far better than a Spurs supporter and die hard fan than Temmu? Are we just wanting to have another "name" to the incoming players yet we have a player more than capable in the Finnish guy =D .

The guy can do us a job and anyone who's seem him at the Lane will surely think the same..? 8)

Yet again we start the season loosing our most exciting players, pause for breath while the shock sinks in that we are a 'selling club', and then launch seemingly pointless bids, with some accepted, (according to the media and those'ITK') for 'superstars' who have either had their day, or signing players that are using us as a stepping stone(Modric, Do Santos). Some see us as 'media grease' for players who want to join a 'Big' club( E'to, Arshavin), and occasionaly an exit for want- away midtable mediocraty who are either warming up the bench or have fallen out with the manager. We are lamenting the courting of Keane and Berbs as if it was unexpected, that other clubs would simply ignore them, do us a favour and let them carry on being prolific. We roar like tigers when we are wronged, yet shrug and look away when we are screwing grass roots. For all these faults I stll love Spurs, no one is perfect. I do however feel that we have one issue. We constantly harp on about 'breaking the top four'. Well my friends I don't think that is good enough. I don't want to 'break the top four', I want to 'break the top one'. Ask Linford Christie if, when he was in Barcelona in 1992, if 'being in the top 3 or 4' would have been good enough. No. Gold is the answer. Ask Simon Mann if he is happy he came 'second' in his West African coup. 34 years is a long time. Email Ian Poulter this week, ask him how it feels. I have a belief in Mr Ramos. I believe that he will shoot for the stars. He knows what he is doing. Lets not get sentimental over personnel, In Golf they say 'it's not how you get there, it's how many'. We would do well to remember that.

Loyalty is a thing of the past. Long gone are the times where players would say they love the club and mean it. Players only play for themselves nowadays and the only real gems you will ever have in a team are the ones that stay, whether they get an offer from a bigger club etc. Kiss the badge?! Do me a fucking favour. A legend has disappeared in front of us, and quite frankly Keane's goals have been wiped off and he can start trying to become the next legend at Anfield; which unfortunately won't happen Bob because of that player next to you, comprende?

Ask Linford if he cheated his way to the top and he would say "no". Despite two failed drug tests and a ban he still protests his innocence. Not forgetting Jason Livingston and Merlene Ottey's failed drug tests. His training partners. Hmmm. I do hope you are not suggesting we cheat our way to the top? :o

loved it.

Pity more Spurs fans dont think like you.

The replacements may not seem up to the standards of what was the best strike force in the prem, but they will be..... Arsharvin, Villa.... whoever. Its the team that counts, not the stars in it.

Remember Greece, or Everton, the season after they lost Rooney, Champs league I think.

On another point, dont worry about the lack of height in our midfield, the way we'll be playing, it wont matter that much. We'll be passing teams of the park, like we started to do against Ar5ena1 in that game and Chelsea in the final.

I think Arsharvin would do brilliant in keano's role, so would J2S. With maybe Villa or Eto up front. I know what your thinkin.... Im in dreamland, but anything can happen.

Who thought Klinsmann would come when he did?

1st of all Linford had been retired for years before he decided to go to a meetto prove his the guys he was training wrong.
He wasnt expected to race, but said he would coz that's the kind of guy he is.... even though the organisers just wanted him to wave and collect his money.

So why, when coming out of retirement for so mant years would you want to wreck your legend status by taking drugs. Not even a fool like you would.

I loved to get Arshavin. I dont care that no one knew much about him before Zenit's UEFA Cup win last year. No one had heard much about Berbatov before we signed him.

We need to replace quality with someone as good as, preferably better than Berba & Keane. Modric is definitely up there, Dos Santos looks like he has the potential to be up there very soon. Arshavin & one other (Milito please), would have massively improved our attacking options for next season. I think Thud is destined for DM this season. Just a bit more cover at CB and we're there.

By the way - Harry, gratuitous use of blonde russian, cups and strikers. Keep it up! ;)
