SOLD!

Wednesday, 08 July 09, 09:08 AM · Comments (134)

Reports earlier in the day detailing an exodus of pigeons from the Sevilla region have now been explained by the purchase of one Didier Zokora by a local football team.

The funniest element to the sale has to be the photo on the official Seville site, moreover the expression on Levy's face. 'Sorry I can't look, you'll start me giggling again'. Bottom pic on this page HERE .

It's a coup, quite frankly.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the guy. I think he was, as best as one can guess - not actually having had known him - Zok was a decent chap. Outgoing, playful, loyal and a heart that leading medical experts today confirmed was both 'big' and 'in the right place'.

Good luck Didier, old son. We wish you well and hope you get as much pleasure falling over in Spain as you did in Blighty.

I always felt very alone on the Spurs forums in slating Zok's paltry 'talent'.

After 3 years, I have to concede that, maybe he was the midfield lance corporal that we've been missing all this time.

Zok was a good man, loved the story about Pav being show round the dressing room on his first day and walking in the Zok jiving on his own in a changing room to loud music.

Check out Obertan on youtube, bargin missed it seems.

Best of luck to Zokora, always put in a shift, if Huddlestone worked as hard as he did he'd be world class!

Joe Cole would be utterly fantastic. Wouldn't mind the under-rated Crouch either, not sure what more he can do to convince people apart from score regularly...hang on...he does! Just because he looks like a giraffe thats run into a few low branches, doesn't make him a bad footballer!

I would keep bale, i see this as a big season for him, and he can stake a claim for that LM role (not solid enough to be LB imo), moving Modric into an attacking midfield role.

Keep bentley too, he hasnt suddenly become shite footballer overnight, unluckily for him Lennon had a blinder. There's much more to come from him yet.

No need for a massive overhaul, 3 or 4 in max, O'Hara (bless him!), Jenas (split personality of excellence and shite!), and Bent can leave. Should be able to raise 20 mill from that lot, if you can get 500 notes for a 20p piece on eBay then...

Tickets came for Exeter vs Spurs pre season friendly yesterday, chuffed with that, hope they bring a decent side down, would've liked to have watched a new signing ideally! Grrrrrrr...

On a different note...really enjoying watching our boys milk the average Aussie bowling attack, long may it continue!

for me if they had sold the Zok for 3mill i'd be pissed off, if it is upwards of 7mill thyen i will live without him. He was good for us as a sub given his adability to play (shit?!) at RB, LB or DM......he will do well at Sevilla not cos we dont know how to make players meet their potential but because of the way the game differs to english crash bang wallop.....lets hope Arry uses the cash on Joe Cole or a left winger of some sorts to get Modders alongside Wilson

Freund never scored. Zok never scored (Toda never scored?)... Let's hope Wilson gets one pretty soon - it looks like there's a curse on our holding midfielders!

But well done Redknapp- Someone had to be brave enough to sell Zok or Jenas who both can be very decent on their day, especially when a new manager has just come in, but simply are not good enough as a pairing due to their inconsistency. We are bloated in midfield, Harry has brought in Wilson and sold Zok for a good fee. Wilson seems to bring out some more effort in Jenas, so this seems a sensible move all round.

But cheers Didier, you were loyal, didn't complain when on the bench and always tried hard.

And I echo the hilarity of that being the best video Sevilla could find of Zok! At least they won't have stupidly high expectations of him.

Zokora NOW IS THE SEVILLE FC PLAYER FOR THE NEXT FOUR CAMPAIGNS (SEE VIDEO)
Wednesday, July 8 from 2009PUBLICIDAD
Didier Zokora is player of Sevilla FC, after this morning has come to an agreement between the Entity Nervión, the player and Tottenham. The president Jose Maria del Nido has closed at the site of the Spurs the operation, in a meeting that also was attended by chairman of English club, Daniel Levy, the CEOs of both sets, the deputy director general sport Ramon Rodriguez Verdejo, Monchi, representatives of the player and the Zokora.

Zokora is Seville for the next four years, with a termination clause of 30 million euros. Zokora is the real leader of the selection of Ivory Coast, with the most international accumulates. In its 28 years is one of the best midfield in the Premiership, as well as having triumphed in Belgium and France with Racing Genk and Saint Etienne.

The player will be presented next Wednesday. Zokora is just what you are looking for in Seville FC, mediocento a powerful deployment and with much benefit to exercise off. In fact, the video illustrates this news, which is driving the ball to Zokora dodging rivals in a derby with Arsenal, makes clear the skills and brute force of the new acquisition of Seville FC.

It's a great bit of business. Depending on who you believe, it was a profit (or slight loss) on a player who had reached his ceiling with us and wasn't 1st choice XI. You have to salute Levy on this one.

Yeah I'll miss him too but in a masochistic sort of way Like Steffen Freund he was a kind of cult figure (I made sure I hit the "l" key there and not "n" - it was a close call).

However let's be honest, like Freund, he really wasn't much fucking good and a completely goaless midfield player is liability we can't afford.

Zok, bless him, was decent but never going to be quite 'top four' quality (typical Spurs player really).

Should be interesting to see if we sign a direct replacement, or, whether we get someone who can pass to members of his own team as well as run around a lot.

Personally - as long as we don't blow our cold, hard, cash on Downing or Bellamy then I'll be happy.

WE need to trim the squad, and selling one our hundred central midfielders is sensible.

However, the patronising smirks of basically saying thanks but good riddance, aren't fair.

Zokora covered a particularly lazy and inept midfield for several years. I would rather have a player who hustled the opposition than one who resembles a lampost when the opposition has the ball. Fill in the blanks there, you have a lot of options. He was never a classy player, but was a good defender with a hell of an engine, and his attitude was first rate.

For all the talk of his wayward passing, Tom 'Hoddle' Slugglestone misplaces more than his fair share of passes.

A lot of spazzers think he should have been maradona, which he obviously wasnt.

And what position would Joe Cole play in our team? Left winger but in a cutting inside on his right peg all the time way?

I have never known what his position is. I am not sure he is what we need but doubtless 'Arry will hanker back to his Upton Park memories of Cole. He did somewhat explode on the scene but I am not sure he ever achieved what was originally expected of him.

In my book Cole is not a wideman either.

If we played the pair of them plus Lennon on a regular basis we risk being overrun in midfield unless we only play one up front.

Well said Harry. Zokora really was, at least for me, just about the most frustrating Spurs player in years. I remember being dazzled for a split second and then duly disappointed soon thereafter even in his very first game - our opening loss at Bolton in those aqua things. His heart and enthusiasm and engine were clearly there for everyone to see. Just not good enough though. Quite a while ago I looked forward to the day when our squad no longer listed substandard midfielders: Tainio, Ghaly, Malbranque (albiet a useful player) and most of all, Zokora. The day has finally arrived! Although we clearly need some quality additions, maybe the new found room in our slimline squad will allow underachieving players like Huddlestone and Bentley to finally flourish...or not. In case of the latter, I really hope we nab Cana or even Sena.

I like Zokora's attitude and I like him. But to say Thudd misplaces more passes has to suggest you are confusing the two of them. Zokora grafts his socks off and Thudd doesn't but big Tom rarely wastes a ball.

I liked Zok alot. He put in a few memorable sterling performances in the lilywhite, even if he was generally not perceived to be the most intelligently gifted of players. He even had an £80m poseur in his pocket last season! CC Final against Chelski was nice.

If the coaches at Sevilla can designate a specific role for him, then he will flourish in La Liga. He'll be like a whirlwind in a pack of playing cards over there. Focus is the key for him. Simple instructions generates the results. Ask him to have a free role and do what he thinks best, and he'll leave holes in the midfield as we've seen too many times.

You just can't begrudge an honest player who gave his all to us. If many of the chancers that walked through the doors of WHL has as much heart, we'd be much wealthier as a club.

Thanks and best wishes Zok.

If the negative qualities of a player are so obvious to fans, why are they apparently not obvious to people who assess players for a living? What is it about Zokora that finds appeal at Sevilla? The same could be said of Jenas. Fans deride his abilities, yet coaches seem to rate him. Or we wrong? Or are we all - fans, coaches and Sporting Directors - a little wrong and a little right?

Has someone at Sevilla discovered the secret key to Zokora that opens the lock to his skills? Or is he now to be deployed in a different manner to how he was deployed at Spurs (and, at Spurs, he was presumably tested in all viable options in training)? I can't believe La Liga is so unlike the Premier league that the player who ran around here like a headless chicken will display any more playing intelligence in Spain.

But I'm a fan. And surely no one would exchange a hefty transfer fee for a player over whom he had doubts. I'm confused, and I doubt my thoughts will clarify over a beer or two.

Nevertheless, I'll give it a go.

Of course, Zokora can now go on a Public Relations campaign for Spurs and big us up to Capel. If he's not feeling sour - and he doesn't strike me as a sour person. In many ways, this move is an upgrade for him. He gets to watch Champions League from the bench instead of the telly.

The lads make the semi’s of the US Open Cup, winning 1-0 on a late penalty. Didn’t see it, as it was played at the training complex at the ass end of town. No TV either. Sounded like a dire grind out until Moreno was brought down Terry-Style in the in the 89th minute and Seb Le Toux banged in the PK.

League leaders Houston are the opponent in 2 weeks at the ass end complex. Houston beat the Charleston Battery 4-nil. The other bracket has D.C. United taking on the Rochester Rhinos.

The history of football is littered with over rated players.

I too love Zokora the bloke and he certainly worked hard but he seemed to promise more than he delivered . He was fast, athletic, read the game well and could run with the ball but over about 5 yards his passing was poor, his heading almost non existent and he rarely tackled anyone and when he did it often led to a free kick. As for his shooting let's just say it was unique in that he never considered aiming at the goal much of a priority.

Funny thing is that apart from his nightmare against Ashley Young he had a few great games at right back.

Another enigma me thinks.

Danny Levy's pulled a fast one out there hasn't he? We should laugh at the thought of almost getting our money back for him. F*cking shit midfielder but nice bloke so good luck to him and the pigeons in Seville.

Pissed myself laughing when I read about the 30 Million release clause Levy's idea probably - "look into my eyes, look into my eyes, you're back in the room"

More Keeley please, she should be the club's tapping up queen, when we want a player send her after them. I'd come wouldn't you? ;)

Joe Cole - yes please, very good spurs type player who I've championed on here before.

Bellamy - better player than keane or bent, read about his african football schools last year - changed my opinion about him from can't abide to tolerate so if he comes won't be displeased.

The rest - can do one - no better than we've already got.

Funny, too, that - if memory serves - it was with Zokora and Huddlestone (preferred over JJ, who I think also picked up an injury) that our results improved, when 'arry initially took over. It was JJ that looked the most likely man to lose his place. Perhaps 'arry saw a ceiling in Zokora's abilities - after he soon hit it; whereas JJ has more to his game and pairs up with Wilson more effectively.

I'm not even tempted to say that in an ideal world we would have kept Zokora for back-up. But then there have been times when I've thought that about JJ. It's a good job I'm not in charge of a football squad, eh?

Perhaps this sale is part of what 'arry referred to as being 'creative' in the transfer window. I've yet to see anything especially creative, but that doesn't mean it's not going on behind the scenes. What we see of the transfer window that's genuine is but the tip of the iceberg; and what's not genuine is an iceberg inverted - it's all bluster.

Zokora tried very hard and failed, so his departure won't be painful, unlike some others'. I wish him well, but I shan't miss his contribution. Do the incoming funds now allow links in the transfer-chain to be released? I hope so. I still expect rabbits out of the hat, or a 'glam' signing or two, but I realise that expectation is the vestige of the Comolli influence, and bears little comparison to the probabilities. We need to wean ourselves off the highs and lows of big name signings and expectations. I don't expect an enforced cold turkey in the signings a few cloggers, but neither do I expect a parade of stars.

I can just see it v Bolton, Stoke, Blackburn and the like. A midfield of Lennon, Wilson, Modric, Cole. We'd be great at defending set pieces!

Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp says his club cannot hope to compete with the likes of cash-rich Manchester City when it comes to signing new faces this summer.
Lets face it, we must me happy with the leftovers
after the big 5(incl. manch C) has taken what they want.
Our beloved club, cannot attract any of the super-
star players, thsts so essentiel, for CL football.
I had a small dream, when Levy went to Madrid, and
hoped we could get Schneijder,Huntelaar etc,but no
THEY DO NOT WANT TO COME TO US.
Now I read, that John Carew are in sight, what the hell is going on, another headless chicken instead
of BENT, SORRY GUYS, I have already started to loose my appetite for the coming season.
Sell Spurs to a rich oil-sheik, so we can get the
top-players we so urgent needed.

Or...

The history of football is littered with over rated players.

I too love Zokora the bloke and he certainly worked hard but he seemed to promise more than he delivered . He was fast, athletic, read the game well and could run with the ball but over about 5 yards his passing was poor, his...

Funny, too, that - if memory serves - it was with Zokora and Huddlestone (preferred over JJ, who I think also picked up an injury) that our results improved, when 'arry initially took over. It was JJ that looked the most likely man to lose his place. Perhaps 'arry saw a ceiling in Zokora's abilities...

I'm glad jfdit picked up on Zokora's double miss in the CC final. If it wasn't for Woody's cheek, Zokora would have been less than half the loveable shit player he was. Best wishes Zokora, but good riddance.

It's this acceptance and sentimentally of shite players that will hold us back.

Jenas and the dozy cunt are another two midfielders who get more respect than they deserve.

Easily replaced or bettered.

Well Didier Zokora was 110% Spurs. He always gave his all, and for what he lacked in talent, he made up for in work rate. A great squad player because he can play many positions. He also had a great relationship with the fans, which only few Spurs players have.

So for all of you who are glad to see the back of him, look around the squad and see how many players put in as much effort as Didier. Didier earns his bacon, I can never fault a player with such an amazing attitude and love for a club from a different country to his own.

Good Luck Didier, Thanks for the memories!

Yes, he gave his all; simply nowhere near good enough.

I've been harsh by saying good riddance (I liked the bloke), but we're not in a competition of nice geezers.

Agreed, he'd have lasted 5 seconds at man ure, nice bloke, it's not a f*cking personality contest, Tevez wasn't signed by red-nose because he doesn't score enough goals, fantastic work rate, a nice bloke with a football brain and a thousand times more talented than Didier. The top four don't accept second best, so why the f*ck should we. I don't want us to be lumped in with the Wigans of this world, I want us to be challenging the Reals.

Thus passes Zokora, nice to see him complete a pass at last! Nonetheless his heart was always true so good luck to him.

I see Huntlaar (soccernet) is now linked to AC Milan and ManU with no mention of us anywhere, why should I be suprised, we are very much turning in to a perennial EUFA Cup challenger (or whatever they're calling it now.... I still think of it as the Intercity Fairs Cup!).

Harry's conceded that it's now a 'top 5' with Citeh spending their way to success and with agitation from various Euro magnates about a European League I wonder if we are not so very far from watching the world of football through the fence.

What can we do? I think this is a pivotal point for us and the rest like us; as from KO of this coming season, we will start to be left more and more behind (unless serious rabbits are pulled from hats).

Anyway did anyone notice that Pietersen did homage to the new kit yesterday? White with dark blue trim and a slash of yellow on the gloves..... got to be a yid!

onedavemackay: O'hara "trained" with them but "joined" our academy (I can split hairs that far) :-) 'Finn's Rules' continue to apply!

Sounders

The lads make the semi’s of the US Open Cup, winning 1-0 on a late penalty. Didn’t see it, as it was played at the training complex at the ass end of town. No TV either. Sounded like a dire grind out until Moreno was brought down Terry-Style in the in the 89th minute and Seb Le...

Are Sounders a great cup team like Spurs ?

I wouldn't call them great just yet, ODM, but beating the league leaders and making a final in their 1st season would be a triffic accomplishment.

Stay tuned!

There was a man named Zokora,
Who was a consistent performer.
Though his shots were a farce,
And he couldn't quite pass,
He was an excellent bench-warmer.

KOJAC - I said consistent, not consistently good... There is a difference, you've misunderstood.
Top rhyming, JD, about Barren Dent,
To the Mackems that man will surely be sent,
And as for Joe Cole? Oh, Yes YES we should.

That youtube reel on the Seville website was impressive! is that what £8mil buys you these days!?

He was a genuine 100% so he goes with blessings.

Joe Cole would be nice. Fingers crossed.

And what position would Joe Cole play in our team? Left winger but in a cutting inside on his right peg all the time way?

I have never known what his position is. I am not sure he is what we need but doubtless 'Arry will hanker back to his Upton Park memories of Cole. He did somewhat...

joe cole is an attacking midfielder who's job it is to create scoring opportunities and score a few himself....in short a creative...

he is better than anything we have.....i'd say....attacking wise....

i don't think we can afford his wages, but personally i'd take all...

So you'd play him instead of Modric?

why are you giving me an ultimatum....i'd have both in the squad....modric ain't a wideman in my book....and if we need goals i'd be playing them both....

what are you saying you don't want joe cole or what...?

also we won't be able to afford unless harry knows...

No not an ultimatum at all just some comments. I thought that was the idea.

Anyway, I meant in the team not in the squad.

In my book Cole is not a wideman either.

If we played the pair of them plus Lennon on a regular basis we risk being overrun in...

ok....well i would play them in the same team....as i would attack,attack and attack....if i was a footy manager....but i'm not....

if you keep the ball and pass it well...you shouldn't get overun too much....but i know that's just a dream....

good to know you don't want JC....i hope he comes and shows you what he can do in a spurs shirt...although for the umpteenth time i can't see us affording wages that high....just like huntelaar/RVN and any other champions league player we get mentioned with that isn't under 32yr...
